Title: GAA TV Radio & Webcasts
Post by: thejuice on February 12, 2008, 11:47:53 AM
Hello all,

would it be possible to post links to GAA games and shows broadcasted in this thread. If there is anything on TV, could the channel time and date be posted. and if it was streamed online post links here. Ill update this myself as much as i can, but If some of yis could drop in some local radio stations as well that'd be great. If this was made a sticky thread it might be helpful.

To start of with this weekend

Setanta 1: Saturday 16th 23:00 Kerry vs. Tyrone

Hi Lads,

This might be a useful thread to sticky, if it's kept up to date. Try not to use it for discussions of games or coverage or whatever, simply add TV programmes or games we might be interested in.

I'll try it as a sticky for a while.

Cheers

Monaghan v Cavan (Sat evening - 7.30pm) will be covered by Northern Sound at: http://www.northernsound.ie/index.php

They tend to cover all local games (arguably, badly..)

Sligo v Wexford on Sunday may well be covered, in the loosest sense, by Ocean FM. Have had trouble with streaming it, but ye might fare better, it's http://www.oceanfm.ie/onair/listen.php (http://www.oceanfm.ie/onair/listen.php). Two feeds - obviously the Sligo one. Will be updates on Leitrim's game too. If not, South East Radio will suffice. http://www.southeastradio.ie/listen_live/index.php (http://www.southeastradio.ie/listen_live/index.php)

Setanta Broadband North America don't seem to be showing a live game this weekend. The Kerry v Tyrone game will be shown at 11 ET on Saturday night, according to their website.

I expect the Mayo v Donegal game will be broadcast live on Highland Radio.

http://www.highlandradio.com/ (http://www.highlandradio.com/)

TG4 appear to be showing it on WebTV too, although I don't know if it will be live.

Change of venue for Roscommon/Meath clash
13 February 2008

Roscommon's Division Two NFL home game against Meath will now be played at Kiltoom instead of Dr Hyde Park.

Rossies officials took the decision to switch the venue amid fears that the county grounds could be waterlogged if there is any rain in the run-up to the weekend.

Sunday's game has a 2.30 throw-in and brings the Royal County back to the scene of their humiliating 16-point drubbing in 1990.

Leitrim GAA have been providing a "Live Scoreboard" for the last 2 years and it is in operation this year for all the Leitrim related Division 3 Games regardless of venue.

It's available via the homepage of  www.LeitrimGAA.ie and is a popup that automatically updates every 20 seconds - it looks like the real thing !.

It has a clock on it to give you an idea of the progress of the game.  For those of you on the move and not on wifi the same feature is also available on your mobile phone via wap.  The site address is wap.leitrimgaa.ie or mobile.leitrimgaa.ie

Loads of visitors from around the world use it to keep up with the scores especially when local radio stations are only broadcasting periodical updates from the venues.

If you get a chance then have a look !

They did. I'd say that was supposed to read 1977 but the game that was on at this time was the 1984 Centenary All-Ireland Hurling Final between Cork and Offaly in Thurles.

Where would you normally watch live GAA matches over in the States? I checked Setanta Sports USA tv schedule and they're not showing any live games this weekend. I'm going to be in Hawaii and it's killing me I'll be missing the match.

very slim chance the match might be on fivefm.co.uk - you might Damian McCullouch on the microphone, he's brutal, but better than nothin - otherwise get onto Skype and phone someone at the match - I'd say it'd be around $15 for the match....

Captained by Brian Dooher they won by 1-15 to 0-14 after trailing by a point at half-time. However, Tommy McGuigan's goal just after the re-start provided Tyrone with a crucial boost. Commentary by Garry Mac Donncha and Finín Mac a''Bháird.

SATURDAY 27 DECEMBER
10:30am Volvo Ocean Race
Latest highlights from the 2008/09 Volvo Ocean Race with all the news and action from the end of the 3rd leg which took the boats from Kochi in India to Singapore, a distance of 1,950 nautical miles. 3:30pm Cluiche na Bliana: Corcaigh v Gaillimh
Cork v Galway in this year''s classic All-Ireland Senior Hurling Qualifier from Semple Stadium, Thurles in mid-July. Fourteen-man Cork defied the odds to earn a place in the All-Ireland quarter-final following a titanic battle against Galway in a game that had everything from start to finish. This was quite an amazing performance from the Rebels, especially in the second half after Donal Og Cusack had been dismissed just before the break when he received his second yellow card. The scoring feat of Joe Canning was another major talking point as the youngster hit 2-12, 1-6 of which was from play, while at the other end Ben O'Connor was in outstanding form hitting an impressive 0-12. The final score of Cork 0-23 Galway 2-15 had irish sports fans talking for weeks!

SUNDAY 28 DECEMBER
3:25pm Cluiche na Bliana 2008 - Ciarraí v Gaillimh

Kerry's three-in-a-row bid remained on track following a battling 1-21 to 1-16 defeat of Galway in a magnificent All-Ireland quarter-final at GAA headquarters. Both sides produced an exhibition of shooting to light up Croke Park with some of the best championship football seen here in many years. The floodlights had to be switched on at half time as the venue was engulfed by darkness during the course of a first-half monsoon, but nobody was leaving as the quality of fare on offer was simply supreme.

MONDAY 29 DECEMBER
2:55pm Cluiche na Bliana 2008 - Iomáint F-21
Kilkenny v Tipperary in this year''s All-Ireland Under-21 Hurling Final from Croke Park. This four-point victory against Tipperary meant Kilkenny had a clean sweep of All-Ireland Hurling titles in 2008 with a final scoreline of Kilkenny 2-13 to Tipperary''s 0-15. GAA President Nickey Brennan was again handing over silverware to a fellow county-man - this time James Dowling of St. Martin's - as the Cats captured their fifth title in this grade, and a first since 2006. Commentary by Brian Tyers.

TUESDAY 30 DECEMBER
3:25pm Cluiche na Bliana 2008 - Peil F-21
Kerry v Kildare in this years All-Ireland Under-21 Football Final. Kerry Under-21's secured a 70th All-Ireland football title across all grades for the Kingdom at Semple Stadium, Thurles with goals from Mike O'Donoghue in each half the decisive scores against Kildare. Nothing could deny Sean Geaney's charges of their first Under-21 Football crown in a decade, following a power-packed second half, which saw Kerry firing on all cylinders. Commentary by Brian Tyers.

WEDNESDAY 31 DECEMBER
3:00pm Cluiche na Bliana 2008 - Iomáint na gClub

THURSDAY 1 JANUARY 2009
3:15pm Cluiche na Bliana 2008: Peil na gClub
St Vincent's v Nemo Rangers in the All-Ireland Club Football Final on St. Patricks Day. St Vincent's were crowned champions and lifted the Andy Merrigan Cup by virtue of a thrilling 1-11 to 0-13 victory over Nemo Rangers in the final at Croke Park. Thomas Quinn registered seven points for the champions, who built a six-point lead with wind assistance in the first half and weathered a Nemo storm in the closing quarter. Commentary by Brian Tyers.

FRIDAY 2 JANUARY 2009
1:25pm An Díog is Faide
The true story of Irish Steeplechase runner Sonnie Murphy, whose village raised the funds against all odds to send him to the Los Angeles Olympics games of 1932. When the record weather conditions caused him to fall ill from heat exhaustion, he must decide to quit the honour the responsibility and trust placed in him by his community.

4:00pm Cluiche na Bliana 2008: Peil na mBan
Cork v Monaghan in the TG4 All-Ireland Senior Ladies Football Final from Croke Park. Cork captured a fourth successive TG4 All-Ireland ladies football championship crown as Ulster champions Monaghan were put to the sword at Croke Park. Goal machine Valerie Mulcahy, sent off in the semi-final victory over Tyrone but cleared to play in the decider, bagged 3-2 as the Rebelettes defeated Monaghan by 14 points. At half-time, just three points separated the sides, Cork leading by 1-8 to 0-8, but the magnificent Leesiders turned up the heat in the second half to ensure a senior ladies football-camogie double in 2008. Commentary by Brian Tyers.

The Sunday Game - Sun 5 Jul at 9.30 p.m. on RTÉ Two

GAA 125 MUNSTER HURLING SPECIAL

Tonight's programme features a Munster Hurling Special celebrating the 125th anniversary of the GAA and will highlight many of the great moments that have made Munster Hurling Championship so special as well as previewing this year's final between old rivals Waterford and Tipperary.

The programme will pay tribute to some of the legends of the game such as Christy Ring, Mick Mackey and Jimmy Doyle, and along with many special guests there will also be a live studio audience for the very first time on The Sunday Game. Marty Morrissey will be at Hayes Hotel providing a live link to the home of hurling during the show and the programme will also announce just who is the top Munster hurler over the past 25 years, with a very special presentation to the winner.

As well as the tribute, Des Cahill will also present coverage of the weekend's action including the Munster Senior Football final between Cork and Limerick, the Leinster Senior Hurling final as All Ireland champions Kilkenny face Anthony Daly's Dublin and a round up of the best of the action from the hurling and football qualifiers from the weekend. Joining Des for discussion will be Anthony Tohill, Kevin McStay, Cyril Farrell, Ger Loughnane and Tomás Mulcahy.

The Road to Croker - Fri 10 Jul at 7.00 p.m. on RTÉ Two

The Road to Croker is back and with a fresh new format! The popular GAA programme returns with a new magazine style format and new time slot at the beginning of every GAA weekend. For the remainder of the 2009 Championship, RTÉ Two on Friday evenings will be the channel to turn to for star name interviews, nostalgia and grassroots issues, all filtered through a uniquely irreverent perspective.

Opening the first episode is comedian and TV presenter Patrick Kielty who, when he comes back to Dundrum in County Down, is still "Paddy Kielty who played football for Dundrum, who goes to the pub and buys my round", despite his high profile career and celebrity lifestyle. In this programme he talks about how his first stand up performances were about the GAA and claims the phrase 'who does yer man think he is' was coined by the Association. Kielty was pretty serious about his football, winning an All Ireland medal for the Down minor team in 1987, and earlier this year, his club Dundrum named their pitch after his father, Jack Kielty, who was murdered by loyalist paramilitaries.

Also in tonight's programme, rival net minders, Waterford and Tipperary goalkeepers Clinton Hennessey and Brendan Cummins, explain the pressures on a hurling goalkeeper ahead of their clash in the Munster Hurling Final and how they came to be the guardians of the net.

The programme also asks why it has been 10 years since a Leinster team won an All Ireland. With Leinster football going through a serious drought, Dr. Pat O'Neill diagnoses the problem while Meath tough guy Colm Coyle prescribes the cure.

I honestly don't know why you would pay the $9.99 for the setanta coverage of these games when you could watch it in the same quality for free elsewhere, but then again that's probably just me being a tight arse.

I have a workaround to bypass the geoblock that RTE uses, so that anyone, even those outside of the island of Ireland can view their live stream , so if anyone wants to learn how to do it then let me know, if your not tech minded then if you want i can forward you the modified file that you can open in realplayer.

Right guys first of all apologies to those who were waiting on an earlier response, your posts weren't posted quick enough, but for any of yous waiting to find out how to do this then follow these instructions:

The first thing we need to do is find a link to the .smil file for the particular programme. To do this, first click on the link on the RTE website to view the programme in question. If you are outside Ireland, the embedded Real Player will show a message saying the program is only available inside Ireland. Right-click on this window and select 'open in Real Player'. This will start Real Player as a standalone program and show the same message. In the standalone Real Player, select 'file', then 'clip properties' and 'view clip info' (or CTRL+I). This will display a .smil link. Copy this link. Now you need to download this link and open it in notepad. Trouble is, if you're outside Ireland, this is where the geoblock kicks in. So if I download this link here in NZ and open in notepad I just get some html with 'nz auckland' in it, because it's identified my location from my IP address. One way around this is to use and Irish proxy server, the trouble is a working Irish proxy is ridiculously hard to find, so there's a much easier way: Email the .smil link to a friend in Ireland (32 Counties)and ask them to download to their desktop and open in notepad. Because they're in Ireland, they will get the un-geoblocked version. When they open it in notepad, inside will be a direct .rm link to the stream required. It will look something like this; rtsp://streaming3.rte.ie/geoblock/937781e0c4b2d229ee3c7dd9f8be374f/geoblock/2008/thematch-186581-243.rm

If you don't have someone in Ireland to open the file then re-read the post, "you can use an Irish proxy server"

I have also stated that if you can't do any of the above tips then if you gave me notice i could post the link on the forum or email it to you.

PS I live in Belfast an I've been doing this for a long time now mate, and 32 counties as i stated is correct.

Heres a link to yesterdays Clare game (only available in Ireland) for all you exiles. Don't copy the underscores.

Seems Setanta are trying to squeeze a few quid more out of the UK rights and seem to be having a crackdown on all the usual outlets, serving them with copyright infringement notices by the sounds of things.
I wont be subscribing again at £6+ a match anyhow as already had a TV subscription with them which they havent honoured by going off air, have got an IP changer but its very hit and miss, got a bit of the Galway match but was fiddling about and have lost it again.

Post by: ruisliper on July 25, 2009, 06:03:28 PM
Surely the GAA should have had a clampdown and taken it off them as the rights were not originally intended to be internet only for the UK, at least RTE seemed to be making a few links available until Setanta have stuck their oar in.

Unclick "automatically detect settings" (should be blank)
Click box that says "Proxy Server"

Sorry lads ,

Looks like all of the addresses have been changed ..

They definitely worked yesterday as I tested them myself..

even though I am working in Dublin, I am geoblocked by RTE as my company LAN gives me a German IP address.

Maybe someone from RTE or Setanta was checking the board and changed all the addresses, or else they do this on a regular basis to get around Servasport's little workaround ..

telefis sounds like a great idea ..
Whats the bandwidth like when streaming games from rte ?
Is it useable?

Thats the biggest problem i found when using proxy servers ..

Mike I watched the 2 games at the weekend and had no problems, the stream had no interruptions and the picture quality was as good as I have got directly from the RTE website directly or from Setanta. I do see that the yearly donation has increased in price but they are offering a $8 monthly pass which looks like a good deal for the remainder of the GAA season.

I watch overseas, up until recently TG4 was available on line for free. No more. I called TG4 Setanta have bought the rights, no big deal except, Setanata do not appear to be offering the games on thier PPV or premium channels.

any feedback would be welcome.

For viewers in the UK...
Hi,
Just thought I would inform you of what is happening with 'msk' Premier Sports. The channel is called Premier Sports and will be showing Gaelic sports and National Rugby League from Australia over the coming months as well as some pre-season soccer friendlies. As mentioned in the forum it will be going PPV to cover rights cost probably at the beginning of July making this weekend the last in terms of free to air. The cost is expected to £5.99 a month. Am waiting to hear about contracts as we understand viewers would not want to pay for something when it is not on. The website should be up and running in a week. www.premiersports.tv. If anyone has any questions please contact richard.webb@mskmedia.com
All the best,
Richard.

Has anyone else in the North had problems with the RTE Player for the live games? I used to be able to watch content no problem. I've tried it now across several computers on different ISPs and won't load.

TV3 is depressingly ROI only online. Hope RTE hasn't gone the same road.

Hi, just to update you the website is live now www.premiersports.tv with all the information. Facebook page is gathering momentum mainly from NRL folk. Would be good if some of the GAA people stepped up and started making contributions. We are hoping to run a classic game poll on it soon and your advice is constantly passed around the channel on content and coverage. Again I can confirm that the weekend live coverage on the 24th and 30th will be free. After that keep an eye on Facebook for an announment.

You just can't help yourself.

You should be able to see it at some stage this week on the RTE player at RTE.ie. Know it's not available to 'outside of Ireland' when you go through RTE sport website.

Don't know anywhere in Eastern suburbs but we're going to watch it in the Gaelic Club down beside Central.
Can't stand scruffy's with them RSA "marshalls" looking in the two eyes at you. They'd throw you out for celebrating a goal/point!

Hi guys, just in case you missed any of these matches. There is quarter, semi and all-Ireland finals dating back to 1965 available on the website DVDsales.ie. There is some gems there. There is also a youtube channel under the same name with highlight videos.
You can follow them on twitter @officialGAADVDs or facebook https://www.facebook.com/officialGAADVDs/

The football pod wasn't behind the paywall - presume the sponsors AIB wouldn't have been happy? It just coincidentally went on break around paywall time, now it's back for 5 club episodes.
