Boris Johnson is far from a master of political psychology or strategy

The reason the Tories win is pretty simple - Britain's overwhelmingly right-wing, jingoistic media have turned it into a managed "democracy" where nationalist spectacle reigns and truth is the enemy

If Britain had a media landscape like Ireland's, Labour would be in the position the Tories are, the Tories would be in the position the Lib Dems are, and the Lib Dems would be in the position Labour are

Boris is a figurehead for the media elites, vulture capitalists who want to continue to avoid paying taxes and stroke everyone else in the process.
Rishy is already being groomed by Rupert Murdock as his replacement.
Jingoistic nationalist spectacle is always a front for serious corruption

Ireland beware

Especially the right wing, ruling classes variety, Ireland definitely beware.
There's only one major party in the Dail who is interested in jingoistic nationalist spectacle and we all know who that is

Jesus,
Are FG still going to honour the tans?
A small commemoration of the RIC dead is the exact opposite of jingoistic nationalism

It's a bit like the ANC commemorating the South African Police Special Branch.
Actually it's not like that at all, given that the RIC haven't existed for 100 years

Mandela actually made it his business when he took over to try and create a unified nation rather than a divided one

Sinn Fein love to compare themselves to the ANC - I suppose that makes sense given the rampant corruption within the ANC nowadays

That's exactly the future Sinn Fein aspire to - an effective one party state where they can cream off the profits for themselves

Brown envelopes from developers and turning a blind eye to the dodgy bankers over big dinners in the K club let alone the tent at the Galway races are not a Shinner thing TBH.

There's none as blind as those that don't want to see.
Shinners prefer to just rob banks

Tom McFeely was responsible for the biggest housing scandal in the history of this state

He was was a Shinner and a hunger striker

Shinners never talk about that

Tom played the game and greased the FFG wheels in Dublin like every other developer.

Don't think he was ever a member of the Shinners, but happy for you to prove me wrong.

Shinners think everybody who opposes them is a troll

Shows how in touch with reality they are

The exact same coin as the DUP and the Tories

So you're OK with a senior Gov minister breaking the official secrets act by leaking a confidential document to his mate?

No deflection please.

Yeah exactly. A self absorbed twat.

Most would never have recovered from the Iraqi photos though so I always wondered how he was able to reinvent himself. The media basically choose who is ruined. You look at Ant from Ant and Dec and the drink driving. Many would have been ruined if they had done that. Not that I watch their show but from what I can gauge it's back on TV like nothing happened. Same kind of thing here. It's who you are, who you know and perhaps what you know about who you know lol.

Barrymore is the one that took me to the cleaners. Utter sc**bag but was given a few chances to relaunch his career but alas the public didn't forgive just as quickly.

There does seem to be media darlings as you say are untouchable but the hypocrisy alive and well in media and political circles as you only have to look at the double standards afforded to Sturgeon for breaking a ministerial code for allegedly deceiving the Scottish Parliament and yet Boris de Pfiffle does it week in week out in Westminster and even refuses to correct the record when he's caught out.

f**k the box kick chase is all Ireland have. That's it. Terrible to watch.
If Wales win this it will be incredible. A full Irish 15 or Scotland for that matter hump them everyday. They're very ordinary.

Italy should be told to piss off. Completely pointless. Game was over after 10 mins yesterday and BP secured within 30 mins. It's a disgrace the performances they put in and they're making a mockery of the tournament.

France unlucky v England, but I love this French team. Definitely going in the right direction.

France and England are a bit ahead of the Irish, Welsh and Scots but as the Welsh have proven if they fall short (as England did against  them) then one of the three can get the win, but 9 times out of 10 the English or French will beat the other three.

Ireland are a hard watch all the same. The pack are the strength of the team. lineouts good, a few steals yesterday from them, scrums solid and with Beirne stealing the ball at least 2 or 3 times a game, they give the backs a decent platform.

And then that's where it goes flat.
Box kick, flat passing that's not going to beat any decent defensive team, crash ball, phase after phase after phase. Heck, even the box kicks are now getting blocked down pretty frequently as the world and its dog knows whats coming. Heck even furlong was able to beat two tacklers with a bit of footwork.

The French coach talked about playing in the chaos, Ireland play by numbers, too regimented and terrible at offloading in the tackle.

Predictable stuff.

He always came across as fairly untouchable and could say / do what he wants. He definitely has went way beyond the boundaries of acceptable on a number of things but seems a bit like like teflon. You seem to get individuals who get away with a lot more than others - must know where the bodies are buried.
Because he boosted ratings for GMB and on a channel driven by advertising revenue it is clear he made them money. He was hired to generate viewers/revenue - all it needed was for 1 person on Twitter to say something ridiculously "woke" and GMB/Morgan got a couple of hours out of it the next day. He did get kudos for holding ministers' feet to the fire over Covid, however ALL of those grandstanding interviews were about him rather than the message

He did that alright but his interviewing technique/bullying is terrible to watch. Better interviewers don't let these Gov ministers waffle on but at the same time don't talk over them.

Oh for the days of Paxman, he'd have had a field day with them.

Yeah only Trump is to blame tbh.

There is probably a point in there on Twitter but Morgan went too far. He has always been pushing boundaries. Just like he came back from the Iraq photos he will come back from this. He's a guy that deserves no sympathy.

Giving the go ahead to tap a dead girls phone takes some beating all the same.

He's an odious individual.

I thought more would have been made of him haranguing his colleague for wearing a mini skirt on the same day but it seems to have been pushed aside.

That was car crash alright and as you say pushed aside but you might expect it to get an airing again with the big push to raise awareness in the male population in how we behave towards our female colleagues in the work environment and in public since the murder of Sarah Everard.

What's the obsession with peoples occupations in episodes like this, at every turn she was a "marketing executive", I actually read something in the Times and we were told both her parents occupations too

It's to tell the community that she was not 'a lady of the night'.

And their parents occupations ?

And for transparency the father was a lecturer I think

That's to condition us to think he's from a "good" family

Most murderers of women know the victim.  The murder of Sarah Everard was a sort of "bogeyman" scenario - very rare but one that resonated with a huge audience.

Do we know she didn't know him? Details quite sketchy at this stage

Did he not expose himself a few days before this as well?

not that anyone could have foresaw this escalation, the lad was disturbed and he was working for the Met Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command unit.

Lots of rumours of very poor behaviour towards women up to and including rape in the House of Commons and some "seem" to have gotten away with it.
Hardly a good example are they?
