Quote from: quit yo jibbajabba on November 22, 2023, 09:19:07 PMKnow of a couple who got tens of thousands of a claim this past year shall we say due to quite a bad bit of damage, burst pipe if I can recall. Great for them but I shudder to think what their renewal will be....

I had a significant claim a few years ago, tens of thousands, burst pipe. That year the renewal was fine, even after declaring the claim, last year it more than doubled, it's down a bit this year.

My current insurer actually refused to give me a renewal this year for some reason. It is all a con.

Who are you with if you don't mind me asking Saffron? I tried compare the market etc... Some were £1600 for the year.

Does the fact I've claimed reset after 5 years?

MBNA, I got it through MoneySuperMarket, the other comparison websites were twice that.

Some comparison sites are 5 years but I think one of them is 3 years so I will have to check that out next year.
Let no-one say the best hurlers belong to the past. They are with us now, and better yet to come

I've claimed on my health insurance this year so is it a case that my name is on the system for making a claim regardless of insurance and that is why my house insurance has went up astronomically?

Quote from: ONeill on November 22, 2023, 09:41:43 PMMy car insurance was around £18 a month.

I stuck the young lad on it recently and it went up to £120 a month. I needed him on it that day but realised soon after it had been sorted by someone else (long story). Phoned them back within 2 hrs and said cancel that. They said no problem, back to your old insurance then. £100 a month. I said, but it was £18 and they said, tough. Poor error on my part.

An error on my part with car insurance years ago was putting in my DOB !!

It was (I'm convinced) in the America style with months day year format...

So instead of 2/1/1972 the normal way it came up 1/2/1972...

For some daft reason I phoned them back to explain the difference, it cost me £50 extra over the year! Checked all over and it was the cheapest ffs!

Like why would one month be that different?

Probably because you got it wrong in the first place. People who are a lower risk would not have made that mistake.

People born in February are better drivers and nicer people all round.
If at first you don't succeed, then goto Plan B

Are there any companies that specialise in adding youngsters to car insurance? Asking in hope more than expectation, realise there's a robbing heading my way.

Rois

Abbey Autoline have ChilliDrive that is a GPS monitored insurance product.  I've no idea what pricing is like, but worth a chat (NI based advisors).

AXA supposed to be very good for young drivers, according to the local driving instructor.

I've two youngsters, 17 and 18 on mine; cost less for two than one.

Got the eldest lads renewal quote today. Up from 1550 to 2150 if pay in one hit or a cool 2450 by monthly direct debit  :'(. That's with Hughes. The sister in law got a decent quote from Admiral for her daughter so will be giving them a ring this week.

Almost £2.5k by DD.

That's serious. A con if there's ever been one.

Imagine have a few kids around that age.  It's be £5k before a key's put in the ignition.

My daughters in Liverpool and I thought it would be easier to just take her off the insurance. Put her on it when she's home, actually it's more expensive, so I've left her on it, which will help her when she gets her own, hopefully soon lol!
