If they got into the english leagues then I think over time they might be close to winning the premier league given a wee bit of time. The problem is now they can't compete financially due to the TV money. The european money helps massively but is not always guaranteed.

Not a chance unless it was Arab money they were getting.

What has other teams in the premier league have over Celtic? (obviously excluding the monetary advantage)

Celtic are as big as any of them. But look at the likes of Man City! Pure shite and then the Arab money has turned them into a machine.

Completely agree... same as Newcastle.

I'm saying if Celtic were put on the same level playing field financially as the rest of the Premier League, they would avoid relegation with ease.

It's all about the capacity to generate money.

Sad to see a proud footballing county set up as they did yesterday. After 5 minutes there was only going to be 1 winner. Interesting to hear from the Louth posters on here.

The irony was at the end when Louth were 5 down did ye wake up and play football and stopped the puke. Ye done us a right favour yesterday anyhow, thanks.

Right favour in what manner?  Louth set up in a suitable way against top 6 team they did the opposite against Dublin and shipped 21 point beating.  They were looking dangerous for a goal throughout unfortunately for them the goal came to late to cause the upset of the championship thus far.   

Agree 100%, what were Louth supposed to do. In addition Mayo can expect more of the same going forward, and if we are to win an All-Ireland, we better fine tune our forward play.
I watched a lot of football games in their entirety this weekend, The forward play of Derry and Tyrone was very very effective against defenses.
Tyrone's backs are a bit dodgy, Derry best transition team in the country by a good bit, however they seem a bit tired.
Mayo will have to cut out silly turnovers.

Derry game plan is similar to Donegal in 2011 or so. Relies heavily on fitness and conditioning. Players can only sustain it for a few seasons.

Players are way fitter than 10yrs ago.

The general level of fitness is. 10 years ago only say Dublin , Donegal and  Mayo would have been super fit. Now most teams are

Majority of the issue comes down to coaching. The last 10 years have seen a dramatic rise in strength and conditioning coaches etc instead of actual football coaches. Best example of this is the lack of quality defenders who can take the ball of their man instead of relying on mass defence.

Players now wildly swing their arms at the hope of getting the ball instead of timing their tackle for during the solo or the bounce.

Mcgeary is a perfect example of a modern day coach who relies too much on gym work and systems rather coaching the basics.

No County player should need to be coached the basics.
The game evolves. It will evolve again. No other sport seems to be as fascinated with rule changes.

Any grand ideas we may have had about increased capacity were crushed around the end of the noughties. It used to be a near sell out for every Dublin game back then, and 3-4 extra per season. Now it's only a true sell out for the finals, with 65k+ attendances reserved for certain big days involving Limerick or Cork hurlers, or an odd football double header including the likes of Armagh or a blockbuster semi like Kerry v Dublin. If anything the stadiums considerably too big now

The oldest part of the stadium, the Cusack, is still perfectly adequate in basically all areas. Corporate facilities there are still not far behind the Hogan side. To have that being the case 30 years on is probably testament to the vision of the admin behind the reconstruction at that time. I suspect we'll see near to zero changes to the stadium for the next 20 years

I think it's too big for the GAA, not just in terms of size but also in term of maintenance costs, commercial focus  and potentially in terms of future rebuild if cost inflation on the A5 is anything to go by.

Huh? Doesn't the stadium produce revenue through its museum and conference facilities?

It does but it's a distraction imo

I wouldn't begrudge  Clare. They were very good yesterday.
 Galway  won All-Ireland minor titles in 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. Clare have a total of 2.
The priority for Galway now is fixing the minor to senior transition mechanism.

But that's the reason for the under 20 level, that step up to senior is there, but a small enough percentage of that Galway team will progress to senior. Galway traditionally very strong at minor, what's their record at the old under21 or recent under 20?

The last u21 all Ireland was in 2011-That team was the chassis of the 2017 all Ireland.
Anthony Cunningham dumped the 2011 seniors when he took over and built the team around the 2011 u21s because they had a culture of winning.
Galway hurling got serious then and since then u20 and club titles , which used to be very frequent, have fallen off the wagon.

You'd expect previous year Tailteann winners to be around the bottom. The others reflect dysfunctional provinces, although Kildare are especially disgraceful given the size of the county.

The provincials reflect the absence of seeding more than anything else plus there is the sui generis case of Leinster , where the GAA made a desert and called it a football championship.

You can justify Mayo being above Kerry by the fact they have beaten Kerry!

I would have Roscommon on that top 6 as well tbrick.

So would I but he only picked 5.
The 3 games in successive weeks for those who don't top the groups will be a killer!

I would take out the Dubs and replace them with Ros and Tyrone

Group attendances are what you'd expect for Group/qualification games  especially when overpriced, no packages of any sort and no marketing etc. Only the regular followers are going.
The old Qualifier games never drew the big day eventers either.
Some seem obsessed with possible Croker double headers.
Play the games as near to half way as possible. At least 5 or 6,000 will look decent enough in a smaller stadium.
