This evenings U20 match switched from MacHale Park to the Connacht GAA Centre. Not very suitable for anyone that stayed the night in Castlebar and arrived on public transport.

Who'd be staying the night in castlebar for a midweek u20 game against sligo!?
Plenty, especially family members of the players. Would be some others that travelled via public transport and would have to stay the night. Would be no need to be staying at all if these games was set for a Saturday or Sunday with afternoon throw ins.

Sorry, its not a long drive from anywhere in sligo or mayo to castlebar. and it's not a long drive from castlebar to bekan.
Would it be better if it was called off so?

Don't leave it so late to switch venues would be better.

Opening 10 mins Mayo 0-2 Sligo 0-3 wet and windy conditions.
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

Incredible how Sligo didn't get a goal from that passage of play, still got a point out of it.

Half time Mayo 1-4 Sligo 0-9. Good quality game of football, Sligo have recovered very well from conceding that goal on 13 mins.

Sligo looking very impressive and Mayo very much 2nd best who really only had a purple patch around 10th to the 13th minute

joemamas

Sligo giving an exhibition in football, way better than Mayo

galwayman

Our lads will be up against it next week in the Connacht final.

Outstanding performance by Sligo and tonight once again highlights the serious work they are doing at underage. FT Mayo 1-9 Sligo 0-17  As for Mayo a few late scores gave a little more respectability to the scoreboard.

Thats all the late points were, a small bit of respectability. Sligo by far the better team, well coached and completely outplayed a Mayo team who looked laboured in everything they did.

Well done Sligo.  Seriously competitive at all under age grades and not long before this comes through at senior.

An Fhairche Abu

A five point hammering, Sligo look the best team in Connacht by a distance this year.

From the Bunker

Well done Sligo. Put the game to bed in a 10 to 12 minute Blitz of points in the 2nd half.

SLIGONIAN

Massive statement win and performance. Mayo 1-9 Sligo 0-17. Much more comfortable than I expected. Going 1-3 to 3 pts down to outscore Mayo 14-2 until last 10 mins where we were just managing down the clock. Callinan and Tuohy didn't look any better than of our lads so would indicate our lads are senior ready.

Our transition from defence to attack is seamless and once we injected a bit more intensity into the game Mayo couldn't live with it. I still feel there is more in us. It is hard not get excited with the players coming through, does Canice Mulligan ever not look immense on the ball or turning out of trouble? Rossa has his fathers immense left foot and he has a good bit more pace than him. I just love how they always back each up in support play and tackling. Its rarely done in isolation.

It is great to see a Sligo team really push on from winning a Connacht title last year.

Galway up next, they have home advantage.

What is it that Sligo are doing that is so effective at underage levels?
There are plenty of similarly sized counties that should be taking notes.
