That was almost as sweet as the late Andy Carroll winner in the Cup Semi Final a few years ago  ;D

Speaking of whom; are Chelsea really trying to sign him?
Ask StGalls. He's well up on all the transfer related activity.
He was spot on with the VVD to City story...

Robertson MOTM.

Ox not at the races!

Dream start for the new Man!

Was impressed with Robertson. Thought his defending was a weakness, although not perfect tonight, he has improved massively. What a rise. Released by Celtic for being too small, signs for Queens Park and 4/5 years later he's holding his own in that company. Impressive indeed.

How the f**k is Holgate still on the pitch?
Nevermind the push which should have been a yellow anyway but also pulling at the Ref.
Everton only interested in hacking down Liverpool players so far. Bad tackles from Rooney and McCarthy and a few others.
Peno a little soft alright.

Now Holgate is accusing Firmino of racially abusing him.

If true (and it better be if he is going to make such an accusation), was it before or after him launching Firmino into the stand?

So it seems Holgate reacted to something Firmino said in the bust-up after he pushed him into the stand. Unfortunately for the lip readers, part of it is blocked on the video by Kenny. Fortunately, the referee was right there, closer to Firmino than Holgate was.

Surely he would surely have heard what was said and taken appropriate action, unless it was said in Portuguese and Holgate understands that while the ref doesn't? Are the referees microphones recorded? Hopefully there is another camera angle too to clear it up either way fairly swiftly.

I definitely can lip read the "puta" bit though. Memories of Narcos!

Not sure what you thought Ox did wrong?

Thought that the lack of panic at the back with Matip and VVD was worth the investment, the goal was a bonus.

Robertson did well. Wouldn't be confident that Firmino is blame free. Watch holgates reaction. Johnny big balls with the ref in front of him and then goes mental about half way into the rant. Could be trouble, and in fairness rightly so if he has crossed the line.

Or maybe Holgate doesn't understand Portuguese and misunderstood what was said.
If Firmino used the N word for example or called him a black whatever then the Ref has to hear it also and surely would do something about it there and then. Lallana and Kenny also standing right there so plenty of witnesses to it.

Still think Holgate should have got at least a yellow for the push and probably a red.
If and it's  a big If at this stage Firmino is found to have said something inappropriate then he should also be dealt with accordingly.

The general consensus seems to be that he said Son of bitch or something to that effect. Which if true then it's really much a do about nothing.

well the game was decided by the silly penalty decision - he fell into mid air with both legs off the ground. How do you do that? it was a clear dive.
goalie/defending mistake for the second pool goal.

I hope there was no racial slur involved. Never want to see that in any game or sport.

No the game was decided by VVD scoring with 5 mins to go.
No way of knowing how the game would have panned out if the peno wasn't given. Are you suggesting Everton would have definitely won?
Yes it wasn't a penalty. Even Klopp has come out and said so. Not many managers would do that. Everton to their credit got back into it and scored a lovely goal. Liverpool while not on top form were still the better side overall.
I actually thought Everton were better when Rooney was taken off. It  was a good decision to take him off as he was heading for a red card.

blewuporstuffed

It wasn't a penalty, and a dive clear from Lallana, every bit as soft as the one in the league game.
At least Klopp was consistent and said neither was a penalty, big sam complaining even though he said after the other one 'you cant put your hands on a forward in the box she should have known better'.

A dream debut for VVD and even without the goal, I thought he was excellent. Just exudes calm and confidence and that translates to the others around him.
Robertson was MOTM for me, set the tone early and had easily his best game for liverpool.

As for the Firmino/Holgate incident, I cant understand how that's not at least a yellow card for Holgate. I would be very very surprised if there turns out to be anything in the racist allegation , but if there is , obviously Firmino deserves a ban.
If there isn't Holgate should be made to apologise at the very least.
I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look good either

Poetic justice on the penalty given the one given in the derby a few weeks back.

Van Dijk did very well. A calm head who snuffs out a lot of stuff with minimum fuss.  Good to see him showing a bit of leadership in that back line.  Great header to win it.

How the hell can a player get off with aggressively shoving  an opponent into the stand?  How is that not punished?
A few slurs being thrown at Firminho.  The bbc had to backtrack pretty quickly on their spitting comment. What was that all about?  Let's see what the ref says.

That's just, like your opinion man.

How did Holgate know what that means
Maybe all half wits from Doncaster are multi lingual
Good job he never played junior hurling if that offends him after he pushed Someone like that
In fairness to Holgate he settled down and had a good game

Agree with all that
I never really payed much attention to VVD to last night. Seems to have that composure and time on the ball good players have
Very good cross field passes
He was telling Karius to get to the ball Imm looking after this area
Lost a bit of respect for Alan Shearer as an analyst last night
Said it wasn't a penalty( true ) but blasted Klopp the last game and Everton's was a penalty
Exact same circumstances so should be the same opinion
Take a bow Danny Murphy
Predicted a VVD goal to win the match prior to kick off

Seems some f**king idiots were giving Shearer personal abuse about his family due to his opinion on the penalty.

He had the correct response:

For all the @LFC fans currently hurling personal abuse at me, my wife and kids because I happen to disagree with your opinion about the penalty decision, you do know you won don't you? 🤔 PS So f**k off!
