Racing Post tipping up Tiger, they reckon he can get around it without needing his driver... Looking at the weather forecast early/late starters may have the best off the conditions over the 1st two days

Looks like being a packed field after day 2. Dusty, Reed and Thomas all heading home. Have a few quid on Fowler, I'd be happy if he went -2'or -3 today

Conditions much easier now, it gives someone like Spieth who's going out now a chance to put themselves right back In the middle of things

Another bad day for Paddy, with his customary double-b thrown in. He's one of my favourite Irish sportspersons, but sadly these days he's the equivalent of a journeyman F1 driver driving around the back of the field in an uncompetitive car.

TW very stiff looking.

BBC projecting the cut at +2 at the moment, but could go lower as conditions improve.  Stenson +3 and Garcia +4 look to have the weekend off.  Darren Clarke currently +14.  Ian Poulter shot an 81 today to end up +12.  Lowry currently +4 with 7 to play.

Brilliant round of golf from Molinari totally in control the whole way round. Spieth will rue that crazy 3 wood on 6 otherwise I think he wins it.

While it was great to watch some of those guys play today, to think that there was any one of those players "totally in control" would be a huge stretch. Clinging to a bit of belief and hoping that their swing doesn't desert them is about as much control for all bar maybe Tiger (of old)

If his putting had even been average on the first two days he would have been about 3 clear on the final day.

Delighted for Molinari though, great pro and a great final days with all the big names in the mix

It would be interesting to see Rory's putting stats compared to others.

His driving sets up lots of short iron approach shots, but again the short irons could be better for a man of his talent.

We all have high expectations for Rory, and second wasn't bad in the big scheme of things and probably help his world ranking.

His driving sets up lots of short iron approach shots, but again the short irons could be better for a man of his talent.

We all have high expectations for Rory, and second wasn't bad in the big scheme of things and probably help his world ranking.

114th Strokes gained putting.
37th Strokes gained approach to the green
10th Strokes gained tee to green

It's not his caddie. It's his putting.

His wedge play is a notch below as well. From 100-120 yards he's generally 20-30ft away when others will be between 10-15ft which makes a real difference. He's not far away though.

The thing is, second, and joint second is not what Rory wants.

He has the capability, and in my opinion (which I rate very highly) he simply needs to play competitive golf more often.

Agree with this, with his natural ability he should be doing a lot better. He hasn't won a major now in the last 4 yrs when he should be at his peak. 2nd is great but he has defo left a few other majors slip away. Mixture of putting woes, poor mentality and external distractions has stopped him being another Tiger.

He was never as good as Tiger, those comparisons did him no favours

And I know this has been done to death on here

Well - that's slightly wrong - he's 3rd best on the tour from 125 and in - https://www.pgatour.com/stats/stat.074.html

What does competitive golf mean? Hes 2nd in the world based on performances this year.

Only Molinari is higher

-- edited looks like Bubba is higher this year as well

The world golf rankings are calculated on a 2 year cycle with weighting for quality of the field and newer results also having a bigger weighting than ones from say 18 months ago. In 2018 Rory was ranked 2nd but given Molineris current form id guess 3rd would be about right...

Yeah he wants/expects to win and I'm sure 2nd (joint or not) is nowhere as far as he is concerned but I'll bet the same goes for Spieth, Johnson and a few more. It gives my head a wobble when people constantly spout rubbish about McIlroy that others are so much better than him at this at that when they're clearly not

Comparing Rory to Tiger is just stupid. Tiger was a once in a lifetime player.
He's got 4 majors. He's there or there about's. Look at DJ, Speith, Thomas, Fowler, Koepka all these great players and former greats like Faldo, Player, Seve, Mickelson, etc. Majors aren't easy won. If he finishes with 6 or 7 he'll have had a good innings. Aiming at Tiger's 14 or Nicklaus's 16 isn't realistic. He was never that good.

From Rory won his last major in 2014 there have been 11 first time major winners.....if I had been asked that as a quiz question I would have guessed about 5/6.
