I was a wee bit disappointed in the show last night, I thought it was all a bit rehashed.

The Frank McNally piece the other week was probably more interesing from a Monaghan point of view.

I found the interview with Babs absorbing and fascinating. The best piece of TV sports magazine stuff I've seen in a long time, I thought. None of the vacuous shite you can often get from that kind of setup, but total honesty and great insight into a manager's thinking, Babs's own attitude to the players and his personality, whether you like him or not. It was all topped off with a scoop about his retirement and you could feel his pain and disappointment coming off the screen. Great stuff and superbly handled by Cahill, of whom I've often been critical. Maybe he's the man for the Sunday Game anchor spot.

You're right Hardy, that part was very good

Agreed. The rest of the show wasn't up to much. I spent a lot of the time switching over and back to "World's Greatest Gambling Scams" about lads who figured out how to cheat the casinos. It wasn't great - my expectations were raised too high by last week's item about two lads in Australia who painted a horse brown with white socks to enter it as a ringer!.

Croí na hÉireann

Really like the show, much more riveting viewing that the SG. Interview with Babs was excellent. Why oh why didn't they follow up their day in the life with Brian Gavin about what the Cork lads said to him coming off the field and how decisions like that and their inevitable reactions affect referees. Someone needs to get a handle on Pat McEaney and dress him, spoke well though. Des had me in stitches when he thanked the three lads in the audience, Pat, Nudie and Benny (Tierney), and said that if he ever had triplets he'd name them after them, brilliant piece of opportunism... Not a fan of Des normally, but he's doing a great job of the show.

Anyway, long story short... is a phrase whose origins are complicated and rambling.

My first time watching it, I enjoyed it. RTE put a lot of work into it and pulled off a smooth running programme.

Considering they were in the Pearse Brs newly constructed premises I would have liked to have seen just a minute of footage of the clubhouse, just some sense of the place they were in, a recognition of sorts of the success of local endeavours.

In fairness, Des Cahill did say they had a "fantastic set-up" in Ballybay (or words to that effect), spoke very highly indeed of the facilities, though an outside shot for perspective wouldn't have gone amiss.
Carlsberg don't do Gombeenocracies, but by jaysus if they did...

What a great show.  The piece about the Sligo kit man, the Dolans talking about Eamon Coleman and last nights interview with Babs were all fantastic.

In the piece about the ref, they showed a bit of the Cork Waterford game and a bit of a flash point between 2 players. The ref who had to follow 10 things happening at once, managed to turn his head to watch the 2 players just as the Cork player took a dive while clutching his head. The ref was spot on and took no notice of these theatrics except to tell the Cork player something to the effect of get up. Well done to the ref.

On Thursday 16 August, Des is heading to Ratoath in Co Meath. Following the weekend's match between Limerick and Waterford, Cork hurler Sean Óg Ó hAilpín will be into discuss the match and Cork's exit from the Hurling Championship. As a member of the Cork football team that lost to Meath in the 1999 All-Ireland, he'll be also giving his views on the upcoming match between the two counties.

Another two men who know better than most about the great rivalry between the Rebels and the Royals are Larry Tompkins, who played for Cork, and Joe Cassells from Meath. They played in the 1987 All-Ireland which kicked off the great rivalry between Cork and Meath.

Former Cork hurling manager John Allen will be taking a look at the effect that websites and internet rumours can have on GAA managers and players.

I'm sure Larry will get a royal welcome!!!
