General discussion / Northern Ireland's best musician.....
September 02, 2008, 11:44:44 PM
...must be Henry McCullough

You can take your Gary Moores, Van the Grumpy Aud Git, SLF, Undertones, Petrols, etc but his man has been there, seen that, done that.

Supported Hendrix, played Woodstock with Joe Cocker, slipped Janis Joplin a length, played with Irvine and Moynihan in Sweeney's Men, played with McCartney in the Wings Showband.

Surely a legend

Listen to his interview with Anderson.

General discussion / Getting a UK IP address
July 16, 2008, 10:18:08 PM
For the techies out there.

The Mrs wants to watch some missed Celebrity Master Chefs. They are available on BBCi on the interweb. However as we are Dine Site we are blocked.

Is there any way of 'codding' the BBC server by getting my ip address routed through a UK ip address so that she can watch them.

Any help appreciated.

Dear boys and girls in Northern Ireland.

I have a Nokia N95 8GB which I bought on ebay. However it's locked to Orange.

If someone here has an Orange account and is willing to help me get it unlocked please pm me.

I think one rings Orange customer care, give them the IMEI number of said Nokia (which I'll provide) and say you are off to Dublin for a six month contract position and you don't want to pay roaming charges then they'll pass you the unlock code.

Any expenses will be matched in the currency of your choice.

Cheers.

I have a pal visiting the States and I may get him to buy me an iPhone.

I know there seems to be many ways of 'cracking' them but are there anything I should know or be wary of before I give him the nod to get the 16 GB one - i.e. software freeze, music not synching with ITunes. Texting won't work. FM radio won't function (I assume there is an FM radio in it).

I am a Meteor customer here in the Republic.

Apologies if covered before.....

First semi final this Tuesday with 'Irlande Douze Points' up for voting.

Hopefully the sterling area of our divided island will put the votes in to get the turkey into the final.

GAA Discussion / Limerick v Longford

Abandon hope all you who enter this thread

No amount of sticking plaster can cover the wounds since the O'Byrne Cup final.

There have been rows, walk outs and ill feeling aplenty since the match versus the Dubs. The knives are out but nobody seems willing to plunge just yet.

It is likely that "we'll get murdered in Limerick on Sunday........and probably lose the match as well"  :D

Right - I've had enough of Norton 360. Hate when you can't turn off Outlook unless you reboot. I think it's dragging my laptop down also with its weight.

Can anyone recommend a top end anti-virus software that will protect agin all badness and do backups of important files to External drives.

Please don't recommend McAfee as I binned this yonks ago.

BitDefender any use?

All help appreciated.

General discussion / Ronnie Drew Tribute on Late Late
February 22, 2008, 04:53:22 PM
I hope Ronnie doesn't die of embarrassment tonight.

I have listened to the single that Bonzo and the rest of shower have recorded.

Oh Christ it's awful. The chrous is a rip off of Alleluia. Ronniellulia in a way I spose.

Anyway I'll tune in to see what happens and I hope Ronnie lives for another 100 years but with these friends, who needs enemies.

GAA Discussion / Your Favourite Dubs' score
January 18, 2008, 10:38:28 PM
I feel like stirring it up in the interests of balance. Here are my all time favourite Dublin scores.

1. Bernard Brogan "drilling for oil" in 1977
2. Barney Rock's goal in AIF 1983
3. Keavney's peno in 77 agin Armagh that got stuck in the stantion (I think it was that goal)
4. Dully sticking the ball under the jumper agin Meed in (I think) 89 and scoring a goal after running 45 yards with no solo

Feel free to add  ;)

General discussion / Kerry the place to be on 23 Sep 2090
December 06, 2007, 10:56:28 PM
Yes folks - on 23 Sep 2090 (the Saturday before the last Sunday) while some Kerry cyborgs may be in preparation for the 45th Sam in a row - parts of Kerry and Cork will have a total eclipse of the sun.

Here is proof:

First total eclipse to hit Ireland in, feck it, ages.

Fearon et al should book the holiday homes now

4. 7 days and the Tiede Herema kidnap
5. The North gone mental/The Miami/too many to list

General discussion / The Miami Showband Massacre
August 29, 2007, 11:43:14 PM
I have come to know one Stephen Travers who was part of the Miami Showband who, as we all know, were ambushed in 1975 by the UVF/UDR etc etc.

Well he has written a book called "The Miami Showband Massacre" about his 30 year search for the truth.

While not wanting to stir a hornets' nest here I should think it should be an interesting read.

It's out early next month </endplug>

GAA Discussion / Westmeath County Board
July 03, 2007, 11:10:07 AM
This takes the biscuit.

The good folk in Westmeath County Board, in their wisdom, have

- brought forward Saturday's Qualifier against Longford by 2 hours (to 5 pm)
- notified Longford of this decision by text and with no consultation
- decided that there are no tickets for the match and it is cash at the turnstiles.

Many of youse have been to Tesco's Car Park (aka Cusack Park) and it's a fecker to get into at the best of times.  With people foostering with €50 euro notes and the 3 people that will invariably be the only ones operating the turnstiles on Sat I, to paraphrase the Kaiser Chiefs, predict a riot.

With their website the joke of Ireland and their shameful treatment of 'Blessed' Luke Dempsey are Westmeath County Board the worst County Board in Ireland?

BTW - Longford will win handy on Saturday  ;)

General discussion / DAB Radio
June 18, 2007, 06:03:45 PM
Just bought off ebay a UK DAB radio.

I can see various Irish DAB channels like RTE Gold etc but there is "No DAB Service"

Am I doing something wrong. Are there any digital radio broadcasting in ROI. RTE radio website has a digital section but is it actually broadcasting?

Any help would be appreciated (I hope the fact that it's a UK import is inconsquential)
