Any point in this?
Are the Dubs as shaky as the League suggested?

Will Kildare peak in May instead of February?

Could Longford pull off a Foinavon?

Should Cork be banned for life or just let Ed Sheeran play Kerry?

For the record here are the fixtures

First Round 24 April 2022

Louth    v    Carlow    Navan
Laois    v    Wicklow    Aughrim

Kildare v Louth/Carlow 1 May 2022 Navan/Portlaoise/Tullamore

Anyone done this in the past few years? Pre Covid like.

I've been told to imagine a country run by Longford County Council.

Bear in mind I'm an auld fella so kipping in a squalid hovel with wife and 18 ye old daughter is not an option.

Any thoughts appreciated

GAA Discussion / O'Byrne Cup 2022

I am surprised no thread exists.

Longford - holders for the past 2 years (technically correct) - will be anxious to impress under new manager Billy O'Loughlin.
And we did this on Sat turning a 0-14 to 0-06 deficit in the 10th min of the second half to a 2-13 to 0-14 win over Louth in Lanesboro.

Dublin edged out Offaly in the end in our group so we have Offaly in Faithful Fields on Wed and the carnival comes to town on Sat as we welcome the Dubs to Pearse Park.

Only one other result caught my eye.

Wexford beat 12 bales out of Laois. What is that about? Did Laois send out the minors?

Have Kildare peaked yet?

Ok - I am reaching here.

As we are the current holders and I am pretty sure there is no competition in 2021 I hereby annex the title for 2021.

Our first time to defend this noble trophy.

Happy Christmas bitches.

Hey - I was on the ground in LA for this but don't worry - I'm fine!

George Clooney to play me in upcoming biopic.

(TBH we felt the car shake a bit)

Hope that wasn't the minor match  8)

Ok - Leinster championship beginning to bubble up nicely ........LOL

I was away last weekend so I missed things but it seems Kildare struggled to beat Wicklow.

We are fighting light with missing/suspended players so I cannot see us pulling off a win here.

But............you never know. If we win then it's Nowhere this year for Kildare, as opposed to Newbridge. We cuda/shuda won the Qualifier last year but we simply ran out of petheral.

General discussion / Carbon Monoxide detectors
« on: February 28, 2019, 03:05:10 PM »
Learned something new today.

The carbon monoxide detectors we have in the house expired over 2 years ago. I never realised they had an expiry date. Thought they'd be the same as smoke alarms - change the battery when it started beeping annoyingly and bob's your mother's brother.

So, if your house does have carbon monoxide detectors make sure they are not expired.

That is all.

https://www.rte.ie/news/ulster/2019/0104/1020268-armagh-euromillions/

A few questions.

(i) Anyone on here know them?
(ii) Why are the surnames not Fearon?
(iii) WTF go public? Jesus Christ, they'll be plagued for the rest of their lives..........

GAA Discussion / Longford win NY Championship
« on: September 10, 2018, 08:58:01 AM »
Longford won their first NY Senior Championship last night in NY beating Monaghan by a point.

Longford's star performer was one Jamie Clarke, hitherto unknown, from Armagh.

He could have a future if McGeeney plays his cards right  ::)

Here is the rising star with Brian Kavanagh of both sides of the Atlantic fame.

From Longford Twitter:

"Delighted to announce that we will be 1 of the 6 teams taking part in the @officialgaa inaugural #WorldSeries where the 6 teams play a weekend tournament on 5 continents after the All Ireland final Official announcement 2moro."

Anyone know anything more?

Unless..........

GAA Discussion / Longford v Kerry - National League QF 1984
« on: March 20, 2018, 04:56:30 PM »
I came across this over the weekend:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPVhpCjTJ_k&feature=youtu.be

I remember it well in a sense. Longford hosting the mighty Kerry (Kerry waived home advantage). At this time the League had QFs. Top 4 in Div 1, Top 2 in Div 2 and winners of Div 3 and Div 4 (or it could have been Div 3 North and Div 3 South)

But isn't memory terrible. There was I, thinking in my memory (having not seen it since 1984), that it was marvellous fare.

But, fcuk me, it's dreadful now that I see it again. It's a lump-a-thon on a dreadful pitch in a dreadful dank park with dreadful miserable looking people. We took an early 1-04 to 0-00 lead but Kerry reeled us in. Paidi was playing but, by all accounts, he was still hungover from going on the tear the night before.

Ireland in the 80s.  :-[
