Every now & again we have an occupation dick measuring competition on this board.
Such & such wouldn't last in my job or our sector is only for competent people etc etc.
People basically justifying their existence by running some other hoor into the ground.

Then we get small insights into the fine detail of these jobs like the conversation above.
Christ above....

Do even a 3rd of the counties take hurling seriously?

We're as far away in hurling as we are football.

Quote from: Saffsof82 on April 11, 2024, 08:06:32 AMbit of context too, that Derry team were all ireland minor winners, they beat Cork & Kerry in recent challenge games, put six goals past Cork and 7 past kerry. Derry & Tyrone would be the 2 hot favourites to win u20 all ireland. If are a DIV 3 team at senior(just about) what makes us think we can compete at the top tier at underage?
The people who constantly tell us how amazing the juvenile footballers in their club are.

Perhaps. Just going on what I heard and would make sense as to why Omagh didn't have a single player make the team.

The first trial was the Wednesday before.
I think you do the first and get a call back for the second.

I think the issue is that Omagh were in the Hogan final a couple of days after the trials and therefore their players didn't attend.
At least that's what I heard. That should be easily avoided.

I don't think there is a fairer system than the trials but the timing of them is poor.
Omagh didn't send players to the trials because it was just before the Hogan Cup final?

Wicklow got relegated 2 weeks ago but yeah God help Westmeath and their mental turmoil of winning the league a week ago.

Give teams a few days to get over knocks and fatigue without going straight into a championship game, especially with teams playing week after week on heavy pitches.

Not everyone has a squad like a Derry or Dublin. Leitrim in the same boat today. You just will not get the best version of a team with a weeks break.
I don't agree with that. I think we've just been used to our season being dragged out all year and now it's not we're struggling to get used to it. Other physically demanding sports from tennis to rugby don't yap about a week turnaround. We've seen AI finals replayed in 6 days.

It's equal for both teams in that regard.  Today was Westmeath's 4th match in 4 weeks while Wicklow had two weeks to prepare and without taking away from their win they certainly had a scheduling advantage.

4 matches in 4 weeks! Mad Ted!

Fine if it was 4 in 4 weeks for both teams Ted!

Get to bed Dougal!  ;D

Knock yourself out Jack if you wan't to ignore any fixture scheduling advantage.
Ach wise up, they'll have also trained about 30 times in that 4 weeks and not a word about it.
Not a blind bit of difference will that extra week have made for Wicklow. In fact, in McConville's interview he said he lost players with injuries in between.

It's ridiculous
Ridiculous? These are elite athletes. I don't understand how they'd need more than a week to be ready for a game.
It's a convenient excuse.

That was a super Down minor team in 87. Was the basis of the 91 and 94 senior teams.
In what regard?
