We were largely competitive against anyone. Yes we took some big beatings but nothing on a par with what we regularly ship against the big guns nowadays.

How many of that Ulster Uni team were from Tyrone?  Or would it be easier to ask how many were not from Tyrone?

I'm not sure on the squad at all but I did see two Lurgan clubs post that they had players in the squad.  Emmett Magee from Clann Eireann and Anton McParland from St Pauls. Good to see.

Undoubtedly. Though it's important not to forget the influences these lads are experiencing in their homes, where a Gaelic Games culture is being instilled into them and where succeeding on the Gaelic football field is highly valued.
It's often overlooked but without it, the clubs and schools can find themselves behind the black ball before they begin. It is the vital cog.

I'd say there's more to it than that. If they really had the players to be competitive in MacRory they'd surely be doing a lot more damage in the B competitions down through the year groups.
They lifted themselves to win an A hurling last year so it's not as if there is no GAA drive or ambition in the school.

They'd generally be one of the stronger teams in the B competitions but I don't think they win them very often.

I'm not sure that's related to what I'm saying. It might be but I don't recall the incident.

My point is that if you are fouled, you should get a free or be allowed to go on if the opportunity is deemed to be more advantageous than the original free.
So, if you manage to get a goal opportunity, that's clearly more advantageous. If you miss that goal opportunity, that should be tough luck and play should continue as normal. I don't believe that you should be presented with a second scoring opportunity for the original foul.

I can see an argument for both ways to be fair though I disagree with the advantage rule in another way.
The idea that you when you clearly had an advantage but ballsed it up that you still get a free.
I think it should be a free or an advantage, not both.

Note (for some): I am not making reference to how the rule is interpreted or refereed. I simply disagree with the rule itself. It doesn't make sense to me.

If the ball carrier is fouled a second time within the time of the advantage the ref gives that foul.
If the ball carrier commits an offence (over carry) within the time of the advantage the ref gives the original foul.
Not much point in the advantage otherwise.

How can there be such a poor understanding of the advantage rule at this stage.

If the fouled player commits an offence within the time limit of the advantage then original foul is immediately enforced. People seem to think "advantage" is some sort of licence to kill - you still have to play within the rules of the game. I counted 10 steps and irrespective of whether you thought it was 9 or 8 it was an obvious over carry at first glance.

That's not my understanding of the rule.
I believe the advantage and original free are cancelled and a free is given for the second foul. A free out in this case.
