Title: Cork vs Tipperary PUC 22/11/20
Post by: Lar Naparka on November 20, 2020, 12:46:54 AM
I thought it odd that nobody, so far, has bothered to start a threadabout the Munster final so I decided to step into the breach. TBH, I know as little about this game as the average Gaaboard fan, judging by the overwhelming sound of silence so far.
I've two questions for anyone who bothers to read this thread:
1. How do you think will be crowned Munster champions next Sunday evening?
2. Are you bothered by the result, one way or t'other?

Cork probably favourites but not by much. Tipp have the forwards to hurt them. Cork probably more likely to run Mayo close in the semi.

Will probably support Tipp for no other reason than it would be great for them to win on the 100th anniversary of bloody sunday.

No.

;D you would be if Roscommon were any good.

It's a bit of an unknown to me - Cork probably will win it as I think the Kerry win will have brought them on a bit I imagine. On the weekend of the 100th anniversary of the original Bloody Sunday Tipp might spur themselves on to do their forefathers jersey justice and summon up a football feast too though.

Not being in the same division as either this year I haven't followed any of their results. Cork beating Kerry being the obvious exception. I think that result will boost cork and they will win. With it being the 100th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, almost to the day, I'd like to see Tipp win but things like that don't happen in sport.....

Cork 3-13 Tipperary 0-21 in league meeting in February,  by all accounts a win Tipp left behind them and they have a stronger team/panel on paper now but their current form is inconsistent from beating a decent Clare comfortably to needing extra time to overcome Limerick. Game that could easily have went to penalties.

Tipperary haven't won a senior Munster title since 1935 (beating Cork in the final) more relevant to now Tipp won Munster minor titles 2012, 2013 and U21 Munster titles 2010, 2015 with plenty of the current Tipp seniors that would have played in those four successful underage teams.

Cork should win, would be some kick in the teeth if they didn't build on the win against Kerry. 2012 since they won a Munster senior title, back then we had a Donegal v Mayo AI final history to repeat itself?

Couldn't Tipp be allowed proceed to the All Ireland to commemorate Bloody Sunday? Surely Cork would want to do that?

Half time Cork 0-7 Tipperary 0-11.  Tipp full value for that 4 point lead against a very error ridden Cork team.

It's actually not if he's not interfering with the play. I think he did when he got up though although probably unintentionally.

Sitting standing on the goal line inside the square will be a square ball beside the keeper will be interfering with play. Unintentionally. You can unintentionally trip someone, it's still a foul

The Tipp goal would have left them 8 points clear and game over so it was a big turning point whatever the ruling. Mayo will be very happy watching this game unfold, they will be heavy favourites to get to another All Ireland final.

Tipp do seem to be tiring a bit but every Cork wide must be giving them an extra little burst of energy

5 now, Sweeney, pure class

That was also the case against Kerry but they got lucky

A lot of time left however

Margin down to two now

Can't beat a underdog story like that it's what makes the sport great. Hopefully they follow up this win by shocking Mayo next to reach the All-Ireland final.

A real pity that no supporters are in attendance to witness such a historic victory. Ridiculous the extended Tipperary panelists can't be there today.

Since Cork won the All-Ireland in 2010, they've played 39 championship games winning 19, losing 19 and drawing 1.

Teams Cork have beaten in the championship
Clare, Down, Galway, Kerry, Kildare, Laois, Limerick, Sligo, Tipperary

Teams Cork have been beaten by in the championship
Donegal, Dublin, Kerry, Mayo, Roscommon, Tyrone, Kildare, Longford, Tipperary

Draw was with Kerry

They've played Division 1 teams 18 times and lost 15 times - Kerry twice and Down once are the only 2 wins.

Will be interesting to see the number of positive cases in Tipp in the next fortnight.

It's great to see Tipp win but probably not what we need during a pandemic.
Ah here.

The Benny mindset after such a historic win..

I must apologise for thinking rationally.

I've congratulated Tipp. It's great to see. First title in 85 years.

Had it been Kerry, their fans are so used to winning, that they'd sit back in the sofa with a cup of tea. But Tipp's first Munster in 85 years. I'd imagine there might be celebrations among Tipp fans beyond cups of tea.

Anyway, I'm away to give myself a good telling off.

In the light of of the Covid regulations the team should be heavily fined for the hugging carry on after the game.

At least there will be no one there to see it!

Would be such a Mayo thing, to finally win the AI the one year when the fans aren't allowed in to see it.
That would /will be the least of our worries. ;D

No, they'll go back to their own house this evening and go to work tomorrow in some cases (others may work from home or work alone).

But if they are following the guidelines they'll be fine. The team will doing everything that they are supposed to do, otherwise they'll lose players.

There is as much hugging going on the pitch during the game as there was after.

They say the provincial championships are dead? That Tipp win is up there with Leitrims 1994 success and provincial title success that will be talked about for many years to come.

Same last 4 as 1920. Could we get the same All-Ireland final as 1920? Stranger things has happened!

Well done Tipp.
Well deserved by all accounts (didn't see any games as duty called).
I suppose ye'll hardly topple our neighbours?

Tipp were semi finalists not so long ago and played very well. Playing Mayo will not daunt them this time as it might have done then.

Congrats to Tipp, great achievement and just shows what straight knockout gives you.
They will give Mayo their fill of it, and wouldn't be much of a stretch to see Tipp win, given Mayo are fairly unpredictable at the best of times.

Checked earlier to see when their last provincial title was - 1935 as mentioned earlier in the thread. What is even crazier, is that Clare in 1992 is the only time since then that Munster has been won by anyone other than Cork / Kerry.

They haven't a hope against Mayo , our intensity will blitz them apart . Comfortable six point win for our bucks .

Tipp have similarities to Roscommon. Some lovely footballers, but hard to imagine them dealing with the power and pace of Mayo.
Unless Mayo have a big off day, which is certainly possible, but not likely.

Roscommon unlike the previous year brought no intensity into the game against Mayo. What I see going against Tipp is fitness and lack of strength in depth compared to Mayo so I wouldnt be surprised if Tipp are leading after 50 minutes only to fall away in the final quarter.

I woulnd't write them off against Mayo either. Tipperary have some sensational footballers.

Mayo will most likely struggle around the middle of the field, and at center back.
Overall Mayo have probably better footballers, but on the day that means little.
RTE will no doubt have a TIpperary lovefest for the next two weeks as their dream final for nostalgia would be Dublin V Tipperary.

Tipp win a provincial title after 85 years and the next 2 weeks will be a "Tipperary lovefest"

Bitter much?

Would ya to agree. Tipp deserved their Munster title as well as we winning Ulster. The love fest would have been A Tipp cavan final.
