Any chance of the weather stopping today's games at Casement?

"Johnston is quality alright, and both Larry and Jason, the latter in particular are finished."

I didn't see the game today but I thought Larry was worth his place the last day. He's a bit greedy but he can still take a score ok.

"I agree re Mayo, people seem to be a bit too quick to write them off after last years final.

I think they will be close again this year."

And the main difference this year is that they have a manager who has no fear of the big occasion and will be able to settle players' heads if the big day comes about.

"Whelan - again I think coming back from injury he was picked to get gametime.....interesting an article by Barney Rock if I remember correctly said that the idea of trying Whelan at full forward with someone like Brogan/Sherlock beside him in a 2 man full forward line could be a good idea..."

I think it would be a great idea. He could be Dublin's answer to Ciaran Donaghy. I remember Anthony Tohill playing at full forward a couple of times for Derry after he was past his best at midfield and I think, but for his (premature) retirement, he could have had a couple of successful seasons there. Whelan is a great fielder and he can take a score so there is no reason that he shouldn't be successful there also.

You can't expect the first game in the league on 03rd February to be as good as a championship game at the height of the summer. If you saw the shite that was played in the McKenna Cup by my own county you would think this was a good enough game. I never expected the game to be anything more than an early league game but I still enjoyed it. The hype was all because of the floodlights and because of the Battle of Omagh last year. I'm a Derry man living in Tyrone and had a damned good evening's banter and craic watching in a local pub.

I thought I saw Brian Dooher training with another couple of lads at the Mid Ulster Sports Arena this morning. I must have been imagining it if he was in Dubai.

'Stevie was certainly provoked and received no protection from the Derry referee all through but that doesn't really excuse what he did.

Some of James McCartan's players began to act 'the hard men' late in the game and, surprise surprise, the Derry referee did let them get away with a good bit for most of the time.'

'Given the paranoia dripping from that post and that you fancy yourself as a well known quiz buff, I will give you the opportunity to redeem yourself by posing two simple questions.

1. The referee in question has played for three clubs, name them. (Hint ask Slim Shady about the first one)

2. Name the 'Derry' club that the referee is currently affliated to and that club's somewhat unique geographical location. '

Due to the fact that Chicken has played with Slim Shady I presume he is from Antrim and not actually Derry. I know he went to school in Maghera and is the current PRO for Ballinderry but something in the back of my mind tells me he is definitely a Lough Shore man of the Antrim variety.

I think that Mannion probably thought he was going to get a free because he did appear to be getting pulled about a bit. To me in looked like he was just going for a point but it went in over the goalie's head. Great to see them winning.
