They've covered and interviewed multiple hurling legends, ladies footballers etc, would the "GAA Social (but we're predominantly a men's football podcast, as we're both northern men and men's county football is by a distance the most watched GAA sport and the sport we mostly cover live)" be a better title? Doesn't trip off the tongue though... Any suggestions? The Contrarian Pucker might be a runner?

The US is one sick, sick society and getting worse. Where does it end?

If I was an Irish immigrant to the US, I'd be seriously considering moving my family out of the country, regardless of my status.

Cousin has lived in NY since 87, she has her kids here now being educated and looking to come home full time, just the state of the place is one of the reasons, she has a very good life there, but, its not the place that she enjoyed living at, maybe its different in other places as I've friends that live in Philly, ones from the club, and they seem fine and other friends who have now grandkids so probably rooted to the US.

I would hope that when someone sensible is voted in that the place will become better but coming home here to the the now continual racist marches and riots, though still waiting on the riots in Donaghadee for the murder pregnant wife and the paedo doctor. Coming home here ain't a great alternative

I like the hooter as teams will know exactly when the game ends.  It takes pressure off the referee.

Has hurling ever had indirect frees?  There's quite a few judgement calls when teams are fighting for possession.  I hate it when those borderline calls lead to an easy point.  Is it unreasonable to suggest making possession calls indirect frees?

Also wondering: has hurling always had one designated free taker on each team?  In basketball, the player fouled takes the free.

Not complaining as hurling is in great shape.  I do find that scores come too easily at times.  Might be more interesting to make 30+ games a rarity, rather than the norm.

As for frees, there are sharp shooters in football that never miss 21 yard frees, I'd say the 65 now in hurling would be the same as a 21 yard free for football in terms of difficulty, not sure why you'd have a lesser player taking free's though, its specialised to the point that I'd take a dead eye free taker on the pitch who wouldn't really contribute to the game but managed to knock over every free or 65'

Actually I've seen every game this year and any game I could see going back to 2012.  At no time have I heard a commentator state a free taker could NOT shoot for a point.  Perhaps you did not understand what I meant by Indirect Free.

I already wrote why I would want a lesser player taking frees.  It was more a historical question: why is hurling different from basketball.

Fighting for possession? is this when the 'scrum' is happening or when?

Indirect frees come about from a player being injured and the ref blows his whistle to have the injured player attended to, and the in possession can have a non scoreable free

The natural free taker isn't going back to the full back line to take a free, so other players do take free's. Some teams have the big hitting free takers, Limerick have that, and it works well enough for them, so a long distance free taker and the Gillane up front for the short ones, Cork many years ago had the same set up..

We've already dumped Clare out on their home patch, sent Waterford packing too, didn't give Galway a sniff of it last day out. We're unbeaten since April.

Now we're facing a county with no All Ireland in 10 YEARS, who got here via a glorified Joe McDonagh provincial competition, still looking to a pensioner in TJ Reid, putting sellotape on Eoin Cody to get him back....and people are starting to think that maybe we have a chance

You could only judge Kerry on how they played, regardless of who they played, they were, by their own standards, very poor, did enough to win but didn't exactly play well that would have said Kerry were contenders

In fairness only one club (in the SW) has dominated the senior football championship.

I believe the hurling can be better, but goes back to what I've suggested as in having hurling only clubs, possibly 3 or 4 ..

Rossa and St John's can be competitive at times but having a hurling only club would allow for years of single code training and prep for creating better competition..

It's about who's willing to bend! A simple solution would be for clubs to still have their juvenile set ups but come senior it's about committing to the hurling club..

I've absolutely no way of knowing how that will pan out, but if we keep doing the same things we'll keep getting the same results

The clock is only supposed to stop at injuries and substitutions.
