So, the winner of Roscommon/Mayo will be in the final. If it's a draw, Roscommon have the advantage on points difference.

The loser will be the winner here! What ever team lose will begin to cull the heard and concentrate on the League. The winner will have to keep two squads going for a few more weeks. In the Rossies case they need to concentrate 100% on the league after Sunday. They don't need the distraction of a FBD Final in the middle of the League. Winning the FBD gig was done last year. The League and a Championship push are the real fry and especially trying to get some points early on the board in the league and having something to play for right up to the last round of games. Last year Roscommon put a lot into the FBD and the League (plus the under 21's). This meant they were out on their legs come championship.

I don't know how many pro footballers yer keeping on staff but we wouldn't have enough fit bodies at the moment to run an AvB game, nevermind running the worth of two squads.

League final is in the dead week before the NFL starts, same as always. FBD had nothing to do with anything for us last year, as much as it seems to make for an easy narrative for some. It was one extra game. I'd assume we'd have been playing a challenge or major AvB game that day anyways so it had little effect on preparations for anything. We barely beat ITS last year and stumbled to a draw against NUIG - if it wasn't for Mayo's inept performance meaning we boosted our scoring difference significantly we'd never have even made the FBD final last year even with the win over Mayo.  All Mayo had to do was not get hammered to go through. I'd worry if that was us putting a lot into an FBD campaign.

Dunno about that tbh Bunker. A good campaign in FBD and a good league should have team up and primed for championship rather than busted. Playing games is what it's all about. The only excuse for calving in championship would be a an extremely high injury casualty rate. No way should young lads be out on their legs come championship after the spring competitions. They should have been just coming along nicely. Ros had a few injuries going in to Markievicz Park but they have a panel and I don t think 'out on their legs' had anything to do with their defeat.

Great weekend for us - lost to mayo in u21 by 17 pts yesterday and bet by students today.  We won't have any worries about the final that's for sure.
I used to be indecisive but now I'm not too sure.

Mayo U21 result maybe expected however Sligo seniors losing yesterday was an eye opener. GMIT are arguably the weakest college team in this year's pre season competitions they were hammered out the gate by Leitrim last weekend. It wasn't like Sligo played a team of fringe players either as plenty of first teamers featured.

Has Ross Donovan retired? One of the very best backs in Ireland.

A good FBD and a good league meant that the Rossie spent a lot of Energy to achieve those goals. By the time time Championship came around it was hard to get going for games v Sligo and Fermanagh. In 2010 Mayo got to a League final and had a fine League winning 6 0ut of 7 matches and topping the table. They also won the FBD earlier that year. But come championship Mayo were flat and lost to Sligo and Longford.

Shrewdness

It wasn't an excuse for the collapse in the last 10 mins against Fermanagh, but a lot of people seem to overlook the fact that Roscommon were without Cathal Shine, Senan Kilbride and Diarmuid Murtagh through injury, whilst a clearly unfit Niall Carty was thrown on just as the ship started to sink with 10 minutes left.

Anyone got a link to the NUIG team that has played the last 2 weekends?
