Quote from: Cunny Funt on Today at 11:16:53 AMA draw would have been a fair reflection for how that match played out yesterday. It's going to be the lowest league finish since the 1989/90 season and whatever slim hope United had in the two cup competitions is probably as good as over with the injuries sustained the last week or two.

The season is what it is now at this point, not sure much to be salvaged either way for the league.

All eggs into the Europa Cup and see if they can get CL that route. On the game yesterday was again a poor save from Onana that caused trouble, in saying that there were 3/4 clear chances spurned so could have been a way different result. But at this stage it would have been papering over cracks.

Why would they care now, when Trump has given them Carte Blanche to do as they please and keep the illegally seized lands, because they 'fought for them'.

Its peaking in terms of the WC cycle and the lead up to it as well.

Ireland always seem to be flat out in the previous 6N and then have no where to go in the WC.

Surely there should be lessons learned at this stage.

Quote from: Duine Inteacht Eile on February 13, 2025, 09:16:15 AMI entirely agree with the sentiments expressed on here but this is the natural next step.
Being honest, how long did we expect county players to stand back and watch almost every other hoor involved get a fistful of dollars for their role?
We've wilfully turned a blind eye to the undermining of our association's amateur status for many years now and are trying to draw a line on the players looking their slice of the pie.
We might kick it down the line for another few years but they're going to call our bluff....and they're eventually going to win.

You can even see it in certain clubs now, that professional aspect and paying for services which would have been carried out previously by volunteers is killing the volunteer ethos across the board.

Slippery slope but those on the gravy train don't care, mercenaries every way you turn.

Quote from: johnnycool on February 12, 2025, 01:11:13 PMWRT the leagues, we were asked whether we wanted to go back into Div1 by Antrim CCC (I think) and we agreed to go back into Div 1 but it wasn't a clearcut decision within the club due to the fact we've now eight players involved with Down seniors and another seven with the U20's albeit there's two of our players overlap.

So if we get a bad weekend with the seniors playing and the U20's playing we're decimated for a league game that same weekend which happened twice last year where the Dall put 50 points on us up there and Loughgiel had almost 30 on us with both our sub keepers playing in the FF Line as well as a lad in his late 30's who helps me coach underage who just wanted to play a bit of seconds hurling in the half forward line.
We're probably looking at something similar this year and in all fairness some of the Antrim teams have big contingents in both their seniors and U20's as well which might be a bit of a leveller...

We'd hope to have everyone back for when the league splits and take it from there, but I'd say the split season is one of the reasons the club leagues have become more or less meaningless, especially the Div 1 league.

Talk was there would be no split in the league. Anyone heard what's being proposed at present?

Don't be panicking lads, if at the end of the season it turns out that some of the clubs don't like the outcome we can always change it again next year and the following year and the one after that......

All learned from Trump.

Blame the migrants for taking your jobs and benefits and houses, while they carry out one of the biggest scams enriching the rich in the name of America First.

It's all the same play book.

To me its the repeated playing players out of position and in some sort of system that no one seems to be able to figure out.

We push up on our own pucks clearing half the field of defenders bar two, one of which is PB who's strength wouldn't be pace and somehow one straight ball in beats the two defenders and we are conceding goals.

Same pattern happened time and time again against Dublin. Playing the best full back we've had in a number of years in the HB line and then dropping for both following games, playing players out of position. Campbell doesn't seem to know where he is playing. Im not a dinosaur harking back to 15 on 15 but there has to be some sort of structure to the game and we dont seem to have any at the moment. Hoping to see some progress as we go.

Make it make sense.

Worryingly similar performance to the Dublin one.

Also worryingly similar tactics which were getting us caught out time and time again.

It is early days I am aware, but I'd have thought some learning at this stage would be evident.

This should be a real test, but if can build on last week then definitely would be a positive. Hoping we dont revert back to the Dublin performance.

In general though it is good to be in a really competitive league.

Was  in the gym all winter but never received any invitation by the county.....

Obviously the manager doesn't see a place for them in the squad then, end of the day he is the man who picks it and the team so he will have his reasons.

This Lisneal college story seems to gathering some legs.

Literally couldn't be up to them at any point, they just can't appear to help themselves.

Fecker of an injury to come back from and thats not the first long term injury he's had. Any player United lose from the starting this definitely a blow at this stage when you're going to be relying on a man pushing 40 and Lindelof now to give us something

But sure there are losing with him in the team so then briing in backs up and they lose, is hardly a massive loss

Problem seems to be that they have a ready made replacement with Yoro just to step in. But this means playing Maguire and De Ligt in together which exposes the team to pacey attacks down that side of the defence.
Maguire looked like he was running with lead boots on chasing back for the second goal at the weekend and to be fair he is one of the better performers recently.

Not impressed with Yoro at all, still a bit raw and doesn't look confident at times

Yeah bit rough around the edges but think there is definitely a player in there. Hopefully he will develop.

What would be the ruling there on using some randomers mobile phone footage as evidence?
Since I don't think it was picked up on by the main cameras on the evening.

That is true and for a lot of cases there needs to be an 'official' camera that needs to be used.

But in this case, he should take his medicine as if he contests this it would be a bit embarrassing for everyone

Not questioning whether he would take his medicine or not, more querying if they will actually be able to do anything about it without official footage. Interesting test case for sure.
