Quote from: Shamrock Shore on January 30, 2025, 05:52:24 PMThanks J70.

He was over here in Oct for my own dad's funeral. He was first generation Irish with a Longford mam and Westmeath dad. Grown up family. Early 70s.

Tommy Cully RIP.
Sorry for your losses. RIP to your cousin and late father.

not exactly trumps fault now, but rip to all

Have a feeling if the Irish government decided to gut the Irish Aviation Authority over an accusation of DEI hiring practices, and a week later a passenger plane crashed in Dublin with an Irish army helicopter, I somehow have a feeling they'd have questions to answer in the Dail, and resignations would rightly be called for. God forbid such a thing would ever happen.

And this is exactly the type of faux outrage that handed Trump the White House in the first place

Non stop, every single day, relentless Orange Man Bad diatribes

And when it comes out that Trumps actions had absolutely nothing to do with this incident, anyone and everyone who spread it is now tarred with the "fake news" brush

So when the next "real" story breaks no one will really pay any attention to it

Team Trump or Trump himself will come out with the so called "real" story and you'll choose to believe it?

Well CNN have already had to apologize so using my vast experience and intuition I'm going to call BS that Trumps actions had anything to do with it
CNN absolutely should apologise. Completely shitty thing to be tweeting without knowing full facts and a plane full of dead children at the bottom of a river. Disgusting really with what their families are having to deal with at the moment.

And Trumps tweet equally out of order. And from the leader of the country no less. Completely classless and unprofessional. There will be a time and place for determining the cause but now is not it.

And BTW I hope the bit about vast experience and intuition was firmly tongue in cheek.

Not a fan of the TDS brigade myself, but this is exactly the type of faux outrage Trump would engage in himself if something like this happened on Biden's watch.

And he is the one who took to twitter in the first place to talk shite about it and blame ATC before any sort of investigation is launched or full facts available. Way out of order! As much so as Obama was getting involved with a grand jury investigation and trying to push influence with public opinion.

Huge international "sports star". Was very talented fighter back in the day but has largely made his money from motor mouthing and "fighting" in a huge exhibition con. Completely lost his way as a fighter and sold out to cheap easy money. Keeps talking about getting back in the ring to remain relevant but he's the furthest thing from a serious fighter you could get. Blood pressure looks off the scale, head about to pop. Will be another BS exhibition if he does get back in ring.

Unfortunately still hugely popular. An absolutely terrible role model. Should be an inspirational figure in a sporting context for a small country like ours but there's too much fake, brash and unsavoury about him to ever be an Irish sporting hero to be proud of.

He had a huge role in promoting MMA to the mainstream. There are some great athletes and role models in the game and it is a skilled and disciplined sport but I don't think MMA in general is a very good role model to the masses. Maybe I'm old fashioned but pounding someone when they're prone and down and out on the floor doesn't sit well with me. Laying the boot in too. Growing up, if involved in a brawl, only a tr**p would not let someone up or kick when they're down.

Take it United are still paying a fair bit of his wages? What a woeful signing.

Better to be paying half his wages with him not at the club.
Than playing full wages and him doing nothing while at the club.
Absolutely.

How many post Fergie signings could actually be called value for money? Bruno? (Not including this years signings where the jury is still out) obviously the likes of Di Maria and Lukakau they at least recouped some money for.

Pogba, Mount, Casemiro, etc etc absolutely mad money spent for little or no return on the field.
No fan of Pogba but he was quality when he was arsed for 65% of the time. It was the other games that clowning around let him down as a title winning midfielder. But much much better than what they have now and would be good enough for a CL qualifying PL team.

The issue after that was wages and bang for buck. With his profile he had to be top earner at the club. From what I remember he was on relative wages to what was going for a big signing at the time but I think it was the Sanchez vanity signing that truely f**ked the club up and smashed the wage ceiling. Of course Pogba played up and had to be given a new deal to match and every new contract that has been signed since is getting upwards pressure from that spectacularly stupid piece of business.

Something seriously wrong at that club. Player signs bumper new deal and then backs it up with an on field performance. Board must be pulling their hair out.

Is there such a thing as gender based abuse?

Seems more to me like there's non-cvnts and there's cvnts, each is a standalone case, why does someone's genitalia or hormones come into it?
Don't know but if girls who want boys who like boys to be girls who do boys like they're girls who do girls like they're boys, I think it always should be someone you really like.

Quote from: Look-Up! on January 13, 2025, 05:41:54 PMThat's why I said "Good enough job to deserve the financial backing the club then gave him as a potential top class manager". Their wage bill was small up to this. He's been backed by the club so from now on he will be judged harsher. To pull the plug now after backing him would be stupid.

From where they were before he is challenging. 2nd in PL, 3rd in CL. Most teams when they break into CL football suffer a slump in the league but he's still competing on that front. That's not saying he doesn't deserve criticism. Hasn't sorted out striker issue. Over reliance on a few players. Handling of Saka you could say very irresponsible. What is it, 250 games for a 23 year old? They have become a bit predictable. But maybe they're waiting for the right players to become available and will sort that out in the next window or two. Time will tell, he'll either be a legend or a failure. But that call is a bit aways yet.

They'll be judged on how they do in the knock out stages than a dragged out new league format that wasn't needed.  Out of interest would you fancy Arsenal to reach the Champions league semi final this season?

Record in Europe under Arteta so far.

2020 -  Round 32 Europa League exit to Olympiacos
2021 -  Semi final Europa League exit to Villarreal
2023 -  Round 16 Europa League exit to Sporting
2024 -  Quarter final Champions League exit to Bayern Munich
Wouldn't fancy any team without a striker but they are still a decent team if the draw is kind and if they hit a goal streak they're capable of beating anyone. Probably most defensively solid team in PL. If they can sort out the issues at other end. Very big if I know.
Calling for his head though is a risk. Who do they get to replace him? A poor appointment could be disastrous. Out of CL qualification disastrous.

Wasn't calling for his head just wondering did you think Arsenal would back up their current 3rd place the league format with reaching the last 4 of the Champions league. Under Arteta so far in knock out European competition would suggest not but we'll see.
Understand. I guess my original post about him, was replying to if he was in danger of sacking.

I wouldn't like to back them in CL simply because they don't have a striker. But they are solid defensively so will not be simple for anyone in a knockout scenario. And if they can convert some of those sitters they've been missing and get their noses in front in a game I'd fancy them against anyone. If they go behind I'd fancy them against no-one.

So in answer to your question, probably not.

Quote from: quit yo jibbajabba on January 14, 2025, 01:23:45 PMIf I could be bothered I'd stick an oul tenner on city tbh, there's no one capable of going on a run like them as we all know
They're 25/1 for a reason and if they don't win their next 3 games it should be longer than that. But if they do, get a good transfer window completed, and win the next 3 after that, the bit will be between the teeth and the cat well amongst the pigeons.

In any case the way the fixtures are falling from now till mid Feb, I think it will wipe out a good few teams from a race they're only hanging onto by a thread. Might even be done and dusted.

Crucial set of fixtures coming up in the next few weeks. Liverpool just need to maintain pace and see who falls off. If they don't collapse, hard to see the likes of Arsenal, Forest or Chelsea catching them. Those clubs will be doing well to see 80 points. Failing that, that would leave the reds only needing 34 points to beat them with half of their games remaining.

Newcastle and Man City absolutely must wins their next 3 games to even be in the outside chance conversation. But in the case of City, if they win their next 6, they will be serious contenders and maybe moving into category of slight favourites. It would mean wins against Chelsea, Arsenal, Newcastle and Liverpool with the latter having to receive Newcastle at Anfield 3 days after losing at the Etihad. That would represent serious momentum for the sky blues and serious pressure on the leaders.
