GAA Discussion / Donegal on slippery slope?
April 08, 2013, 09:06:22 AM
Their manager gets a job with Celtic, they don't win a game in the McKenna Cup and they get relegated in NFL. Spin it whatever way you like, these are the facts.
They now face Tyrone at home in the Ulster Cship. Lose that and the year couldn't get any worse. Or will Jimmy turn it around and get things back on track? No-one will rule them out, but no-one can deny that the year has been a disaster so far.

GAA Discussion / New Monaghan manager
September 09, 2012, 12:58:29 AM
Bit of a surprise in Monaghan as the three horse race for manager was won by Fermanagh man Malachy O'Rourke. It was said that Down coach Aidan O'Rourke was the front runner but all three were interviewed and Mal O'R came out top.

Given his lack of success with Fermanagh are Monaghan people surprised by this appointment?

The Tipp county board insist on playing a full round of club c/ship fixtures 24hours after they beat Antrim in the qualifers. That's 6 days ahead of their next round qualifier with Down. Croke Park had to step in to stop them.
This matched to the fact that Antrim had way more supporters in Thurles than Tipp had last weekend.

This all against a backdrop of Tipp football being on an all time high.

GAA Discussion / Val Andrews steps down
April 12, 2012, 11:37:32 PM
Player power gone mad? Or has Andrews just been found out?

Heard Andrews this evening on Sport at 7 on RTE1. It was a pathetic defence on his part, I've no idea why he did the interview when all he could come out with was that the players should take a look at themselves whilst trying to play it all down as no big deal. He also indicated that he had no idea what the problems were (Come off it Val) but did mention "a few training issues".

Easy first round win for Donegal now?

Just heard news this morning that the two people involved in assaulting the referee and ladies board chairman after the Tyrone ladies county final have received lifetime bans from the GAA.

Donegal are the bookies favs. Their first have performance Vs Tyrone would hardly warrent the favs tag, many believe Derry have the bit between their teeth. Certainly one to look forward to.

GAA Discussion / McKENNA CUP 2011
January 08, 2011, 11:54:23 PM
Just saw that all the McKenna cup games have been called off. So who will win the thing anyway? Here are my thoughts for what it's worth;

ANTRIM: Probably Bakers last year. Will most likely not try out many new faces and has the St.Galls boys.
ARMAGH: I think O'Rourke is a man under pressure. Fell flat on his face last years in c/ship. Has a few new lads in. My predicted winners!
CAVAN: Val Andrews talks a good game but that's about it IMO. Another year in the doldrums.
DERRY: The team with huge potential but will probably take time to find their feet with new manager.
DONEGAL: McGuinness has said he wants to win the McKenna cup! (Why?) Has brought in loads of U.21's. Too many too soon IMO.
DOWN: Huge year in 2010 so 2011 can only be worse? McCartan continues to play everything down (Getting boring now). Slow starters in McKenna cup after big year last year.
FERMANAGH: 2nd worst team in Ulster now to Cavan? McKenna cup will provide better opposition that Div.4. O'Neill to stop the 2010 rot! 2011 big year.
MONAGHAN: Promising much for years and now Bantyless. Let the predicted decline commence.
TYRONE: Harte continues to put emphasis on this competition. Beaten finalists in McKenna cup.
QUEEN'S: Finalists a few years back but lean years since. Last year they looked poor (Saw them V Derry) but O'Rourke will have learned from last year.
UUJ: Always strong and have a very good manager in McGuckian. Will not be far away.
St.MARYS: Pat Tally will have them in shape. Won't win much but will tighten the best of them

General discussion / Injuries
December 31, 2010, 12:34:43 AM
Anyone provide advice on niggling injuries that have lingered for a few years now?

Whilst running on the road by calf/achilles stiffens followed by pain. If I keep running it worsens. It seems to be around the area where my achilles meets bottom of my calf. I have had it for a few years now, have gone to physio who gave me insoles and I got new runners. All provided short term relief but I'm now back to square one.

My other injury seems to be tendonitus where my bicep meets my forearm. Feel it when I do bicep exercises, which I havent done in a year now, but if I try it I still feel it.

Any advice welcome!

Anyone any idea who will win the Sigerson cup this year? I have heard that the Cork teams are strong as are UCD and Queen's.
Anyone any idea where the strong freshers are this year and who will win that. DIT won last year which was unusual.
