Was unlucky with injuries to O'Donoghue and Conroy this year. Has had his time.

He brought us to a higher place and made thinking of winning Sam the norm.

He did well but he never sealed the deal.

He improved standards. No all Ireland Final with his teams repeated 2006. But he was unlucky to come up against  the greatest financial team in the game.

Certainly the greatest Mayo manager of modern times. He'll have regrets. He did have one last great chance to win the holy grail in 2021, but it wasn't to be. But he leaves Mayo GAA at a county level in a far better place than where he found it. No obvious successor, or will the county board take a chance on young Andy or bury the hatched with McStay and McHale.

Nothing much to get excited about on that list.

O'Rourke be the best man on that list if McGuinness keeps with the soccer.

TwoUpTwoDown

I'd do whatever it took to get Mickey Harte signed on. He had another run in him at the top table and he'll never do another Ulster team.

Identify the best candidate and go and get him

Rory Gallagher has worked wonders in Derry. Gallagher is intelligent enough to know that after this year the only way is downwards for Derry. He has taken them beyond their natural ceiling. His management style also has a 3 yr cycle. The intensity will soon become too much to bear for the Derry fellas & an unravelling is likely within 6 to 12 months. Derry would have a meagre "training budget" in comparison to Mayo as well.

Gallagher would absolutely would jump at the chance to go to Mayo.

And he would add a layer of steel and a level of organization not seen before in Mayo.

Do Mayo do outside managers ?

Mickey Moran for one

But they dont do them too often. I am not sure was Horan the great manager he is made out to be.

So you believe Gallagher will walk away from a team that is improving every game. That will be a team that either has won an all Ireland or will potentially  won an all Ireland next year , to manage a team on the way down the hill. I don't think so.

the Mayo job is one of the top 3 in Ireland. Gallagher is an ambitious and transient manager. He will probably never get the chance again to get one of these really high profile top jobs

My post wasnt meant to antagonize Derry support by the way. Take it as a complement on the job he has done and what Derry have achieved this year. Good luck in the semi final.

What about the O'Sheas or the O'Connor or have they resigned too?

Seriously I think Jim McGuinness will go for this role.
