Another election?

No, a deal has been done. The independent group involved in government won't be recognised as technical group today, so won't have opposition speaking rights.

That should allow the election of MM as Taoiseach, and new government to follow.
Ceann Comhairle still to make final decision re how the independents will be treated.

Regardless of rights and wrongs, and I think everyone agrees the independents can't have it every way, the scenes in the Dáil yesterday were pathetic.

In what other profession would that sort of shouting and roaring be tolerated? They should all be embarrassed at themselves.
Daily reform needed as to how disagreements can be handled. Anyone roaring and ignoring CC should be immediately ejected from the chamber, and I think should be banned for X number of sitting days.
I'm loving the deflection.  Look over there! FFS.

Every political commentator has called this out for what it was. An anti-democratic stunt by Martin, Harris and their quisling Lowry. They tried to force this through by arrogance.  But they were found out.

This was their making and they knew it was going to happen. It was flagged 2 weeks ago. That's the whole point of this. They left Murphy in a fix. Washed their hands off her and then had their faux outrage last night. It was embarrassing alright...for Martin and Harris.

Let's hope, for everyone's sake, Martin and Harris drop their arrogance and show a bit more humility going forward.

Martin and Harris might be the government, but they do not directly control the operation of Dáil Éireann. This arrangement suits the independents and the FF/FG backbenchers.

I said the arrangement they tried to push through was wrong, and I didn't say any side was better or worse than the other yesterday.  They all acted appallingly.
But as usual, some people can only see it as "us against them".
Grow up a bit.

You lumped it all on the independents and nothing on FF/FG who would have needed to be part of this stitch up along with the speaker it seems!

Captain Scarlet

I'm sure the usual wannabe press officers and advisers will pipe up for the Givt, but all the journos and commentators were not buying the lines from FF/ FG.

And the public are not either. It'll all come asunder earlier than planned. FF and FG can doddle along but the Independents won't be able to control themselves, and Lowry is an easy target for genuine opposition.

They made their bed mind!
them mysterons are always killing me but im grand after a few days.sickenin aul dose all the same.

NAG1

Saw an RTE interview with Mairead Farrell can't remember who the lady interviewing her was, but the sneering tone she had while asking her the questions while trying to pin all the chaos on SF was notable.

To be fair Farrell handled it very well, but it definitely came across as needlessly hostile.

Where did I lump it all on the independents?
You make assumptions and read what you want to read rather than what is written.

Are you talking about me???

Lowry is infamous/famous since his days as Tipp chairman and all his wheeling and dealings ever since which always seem to benefit him.

Did that Casino in Two Mile Borris ever get built?

Lowry was one of the finest GAA chairmen a county has ever had. In his era, Tipp came back from the doldrums to lord it in hurling.
He also fundraised for a massive re-development in Thurles when the country was broke. The Feile festivals he started were Ireland's Woodstock and a few lads who lost their virginity at those festivals owe it to Lowry!

Yeah yeah let's just forget about the esat digifone and tax avading scandal and imm sure Semple didn't receive any of his own personal wealth.  A Dodgy scoundrel and what happened yesterday was a disgrace to Irish democracy. Also I think I speak on behalf of the the nation when I say we don't need a crook from Tipp to get laid so away off ya.

Would you rather the phone licence went to a Norwegian company instead of an Irish one?

Well given who 'won' it, absolutely yes
Careful now

marty34

I wonder what has Lowry got over Martin and Harris?

This speaking rights issue isn't going away it seems.
