Quote from: Capt Pat on February 01, 2025, 08:43:46 PMThat was impressive from Ireland today against a good England team. Both outhalves were impressive today in general play but something needs to be done about the goal kicking. Both Crowley and Prendergast are too inconsistent. We need to look at getting a player at another position taking the kicks. It doesn't have to be an outhalf.

No need to sugarcoat it - Prendergast was poor all over.

Big John Eales used to take kicks for Australia.

That was a good win today. England flew out of the blocks but Ireland were the better team from 10-15 mins onwards in most aspects.

How in holy f**k is Conor Murray still involved with the national team? What is the rationale here?

Murray is usually good at closing a game and slowing these down but the last 2 England matches he has been at fault

He was too ponderous in possession with 15 secs to go.

Sportacus

Very complacent finish, but sure that's a managers dream.  Hopefully come out firing next day rather than thinking they're the bees knees.

Ireland just about done enough to win against a pumped up England who still don't have much guile when the have the ball and are all aggression and then they run out of steam.

IMO Scotland are a far better team than England and after next weekend we'll know exactly where this Ireland team are.
They're still not firing completely on time, line out was much better though, still think there's too many unforced errors which deny scoring opportunities and give over scoring opportunities to the opposition.
Scotland are far better with the ball than England, so Ireland need to keep possession far better than they currently do.

How bad are Wales?

Sweet jebus.

Ireland prioritise the 6N
I wonder how England will do in the next RWC

England neither had the fitness, defence nor the depth to maintain their aggression and intensity, whereas Ireland could turn to a more impactful and experienced bench boasting 509 caps to the visitors' 91.

England are too.

If Borthwick doesn't get a tune out of this England team in the next few weeks he's out of a job. Don't think for one minute he's planning for a WC, he'd be a fool to think that far ahead.

Ireland are starting to blood some young lads and they'll need to do that in a big way, there's a lot of 30 plus lads who won't be going to a WC or will be 33/34 when that comes around.

Walter Cronc

O'Mahony starting. I give up.

Baird wasn't great against England but it seems harsh to give him the gaff already when they need to be building for the future. I'd have given him another start over POM but I'm not in charge! With no Henderson or McCarthy on the bench I suppose they can use Baird as a replacement lock too.

I remember years ago people saying the only thing harder to do in rugby than making the national team was getting dropped from the national team.

Professionalism hasn't changed some things.

Scotland away is going to be the second toughest game of the campaign. They're going with the tried and trusted in the pack and the bosh brothers in the centres.

Horses for courses and all that, but we really need to be seeing some young guns against Italy and Wales.

Italy better than Wales right now, which is a big come down for the principality.

Wales have been awful for several years and Italy have been on the up with some super players. Capuozzo is as exciting to watch as any player around. A comfortable win at home would be no real suprise.
