firstly few things great debate by the way. from what ive seen ronan o neill has been unmarkable in both ulster games so far his play yesterday especially in the first half when double marked was frightening and his pass to barry tierney was reminiscent of canavan in his pomp we are only too quick to knock lads especially younger guys and one like ronan whos been touted as the next canavan from the age of 12. he is delivering like any kid he needs an arm up and around the shoulder not one to pull him down. (22)
with regard to the winter pitches its nothing to do with the ground its to do with football and having quality around you. ronan has benefitted from an extended run in club football so has justy joe conan and bazza. ronan excelled in last years sigerson due to an extended season with uuj and the fact that he was played at 11. i will ask the question when you play in a county team with a half back line that cant defend and a half forward line that cant create how could a player of ronans ability prosper. both those lines are vital. ronan has been poorly handled post his cruciate thrown in with no competitive football behind him. the monaghan game this year was a shambles in an attacking sense again that was ronan and soneills fault not the dearth in quality around them.
some of the comments on here regarding the lads physique are sad and disappointing and smack of cheap shots something frank mcguigan and joe kernan to name but a few have had to fend off all their lives. celebrate the lad he is putting tyrone football back on the map. ive had the pleasure of watching soneill peter and ronan and at 22 ronan is comparable with either of them and neither the two of them had to deal with a carer threatening injury at 19 years of age or do it as a student in a county set up that is on the slide.
prospective please.

did i hear the mcnulty from dungannon and dwyane quinn from clonoe have been asked to join the training panel. like both of them physical and direct. badly needed physicality weve turned into soft lateral handpassing jessies.

dont think anyone in omagh will be taking eunans lightly. if we were honest as a club we did not play well against cross and got very lucky in the second half a similar performance and the donegal men will eat omagh. cross will be kicking themselves they played crap and still could have beat omagh. ulster is wide open it will take a big performance against an ultra defensive donegal champions.

when is someone in the county board going to force mr harte to toe the party line. the continued lack of communication interaction with clubs, players in the squad, the media and rte sends out a them and us message. or is it a deliberate protocol in terms of i dont know what im doing who knows. if we go back to 2008 every hound dog from ardboe to aghyaran knows that until caroline currid was brought into the squad to act as a go between the players and harte the players were jacking. we have not moved forward one dot since 2008. whos fault is that. lets just put the statue up in garvaghey for gods sake and be done with this current malaise. we need  a change of direction even if a 4th mckenna is secured god help us. its a known biological fact as you get older your aversion to risk increases.

at the end of the day what mccarron does in his spare time is up to him. what worries me more is the continued need for mickey to continue with his little projects first reigning in the horse now getting fergus back on the straight and narrow excuse the pun. it smacks of desperation all round but i suppose thats where the tyrone football manager now finds himself. there must be huge pressure now on mickey not only is he the longest serving but must be the oldest intercounty manager by a long shot he has presided over 4 years of dross and ever diminishing returns. the question for anybody looking on the outside to mickey is why has he not been able to get a performance of note out of this current squad. Today i see its the 08 panels fault thats rich coming from a man who continued to suffocate any of those guys development unless he shared a similar surname.
