Playing Kildare in January is the acid test of any Leinster team.
If you were any use you'd be playing.

Here we go!

Kildare v Longford gets the ball rolling this Sat in Newbridge at 2 pm.

Looking forward to getting some shouting and roaring out of the system with this being the first official inter county game of 2017 (I think)

Hopefully there won't be a crush on the way in.......

Dublin hurlers played Carlow in the Walsh Cup last night.
Westmeath - Home of the Christy Ring Cup...

Hmmmmm - I was thinking of football in fairness,

Meath (O'Byrne Cup SF v Wicklow):

Jack Hannigan,
Donal Keogan, Donnacha Tobin, Mickey Burke,
Conor Downey, Shane McEntee, Sean Curran,

Bryan Menton, Cian O'Brien,

Cillian O'Sullivan, Graham Reilly, Paddy Kennelly,
Kevin Ross, Brian Sheridan, Bryan McMahon

Strong enough team for this time of year.

2 debuts in Hannigan and Ross but a few inexperienced guys like Kennelly and Downey too.
It won't be the next manager but the one after that Meath will become competitive again - MO'D 2016

Good to see Menton back.
Hope he's fit and raring to go this year.
We need a bit of dynamism around midfield.
If you were any use you'd be playing.

Just looking at the two forward lines with Reilly, O'Sullivan, McMahon and Sheridan makes me fairly confident we'll win this handy enough so long as the weather doesn't turn foul.

Good crowd in Newbridge. I'd say 1,000 or so. Football game of the year so far  :)

Kildare 1-07
Longford 0-07 at half time

Only 11 years to go for Kildare to hit the century

Get the John Maughan look for the O'Byrne cup with a pair of Offaly bermuda shorts. Fake tan available at all good chemists

Straight away the new regime confronts our major weakness - holding on to half time leads. Fingernails at risk now for 35 minutes.

Pile in at 66/1 on Meath for Sam . That price will be impossible to find tomorrow

If we manage to come back and win after being 14 points up at half-time, we'll know we've turned a corner.

Good start to the Andy McEntee era. A full 70minute performance is what we needed. Need to see this repeatedly throughout the O'Byrne and league to start feeling optimistic.

The new lads applied themselves well.

Just for anyone unfamiliar with betting and odds, here's the way that works.
If for example, you put €20 on at 66-1, then you lose €20.
