Don't normally do this, but saw the link below on the BBC website and the thumbnail of the picture, and was sure it was an O'Neill's football they were using, and then opened the story and saw the 2 boys in the background, and had a wee chuckle to myself!!

McMenamin suspension is increased

Ryan McMenamin's six-week ban imposed after his challenge on Paul Galvin has been extended to eight weeks.

McMenamin had not accepted the six-week ban proposed by the GAA's Central Competitions Control Committee.

The eight-week ban means McMenamin is set to miss Tyrone's next four Allianz National Football League matches.

Tyrone's county board have also been fined 2,000 Euro by the Central Hearings Committee although both verdicts are likely to be appealed.

Despite the extension of the ban, McMenamin won't miss any more than the four NFL matches which would have been covered by the original six-week suspension.

After being banned for the games against Galway, Westmeath, Donegal, the suspension will also cover the match against Derry on 28 March but Tyrone's final Division 1 round-robin clash is away to Castlebar on 12 April and McMenamin's ban expires the previous midnight.

McMenamin was disciplined when video evidence caught him grabbing opponent Paul Galvin between the legs.

The Tyrone man had a proposed six-week ban imposed against him for "behaving in a manner dangerous to an opponent" in the Kerry game.

He attended a personal hearing at Croke Park on Thursday night but the Central Hearings Committee opted to increase the ban to eight weeks.

A GAA statement also revealed that the Tyrone board had been fined 2,000 Euro by the Central Hearings Committee after it chose not to accept the penalty proposed by the Central Competitions Control Committee.

The fine was imposed because of "disruptive conduct" by the Tyrone players after the game.

McMenamin and the Tyrone County Board have the option to lodge appeals against the decisions to the Central Appeals Committee.

Tyrone manager Mickey Harte had criticised the length of McMenamin's suspension and he is likely to be angered by the extension of the ban.

However, McMenamin had come in for some scathing criticism in the media and beyond following the incident in the game at Healy Park.

Guys,

have any of you an idea of where I can get a couple of sets of cuff links in either County or Standard GAA logos anywhere?
I have an idea of a present for my 2 groomsmen on my wedding day and any help in finding these would be appreciated.

Cheers,

don't know if this has been posted yet, but i thought it would be something the hurlers on the board would be interested in:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/northern_ireland/gaelic_games/7253084.stm

Kilkenny hurling legend Eddie Keher was in Belfast over the weekend to pick up a special memento of his encounter with Muhammad Ali in Dublin 1972.
Ali was in Ireland in July 1972 preparing for his non-title bout with Al 'Blue' Lewis at Croke Park.

By that stage of his career, Keher had already established himself as the greatest hurler of his generation.

Therefore, journalist Raymond Smith struck upon the idea of arranging some publicity shots of the two sportsmen.

"I was (working) in the bank in Dublin at the time when I got the phone call from Raymond Smith.

"Because of the fact that the fight was going to be in Croke Park and its association with hurling, I was asked if I would come out to Kilternan where he (Ali) was training and staying," recalls Keher.

"I was absolutely thrilled that I was going to meet him."

Keher headed to Ali's south Dublin base with a mixture of excitement and nervousness but the Greatest quickly put the Kilkenny hurler at ease.

"When I arrived, he was out training. When he came in, I was actually very surprised because he was very quiet and very interested in the hurling and I found out that he'd actually seen it (the hurling) on TV.

"Then we went out to do the publicity shots and the press were already outside.

"Of course, once we got out, with the press there, I saw Ali the showman.

"I was trying to show him how to rise the ball and how to hop it on the hurl.

"Then he said:'Come on. We'll put on a show for these boys' and he started fencing with me with the hurley.

"We danced around and put on a bit of show and that was basically it."

Keher laughs that he was fearful that Ali might thump journalist Smith at one stage.

"You remember all the controversy after Ali's name change but Raymond kept calling hims Cassius and I thought Ali was going to hit him a box.

"But instead, he was so quiet (about that) and just great fun."

Keher got Ali to sign the hurley and the stick remained in the Kilkenny man's attic for most of the last 35 years.

"I didn't know what to do with it but by chance I was talking to Sean Morgan of Setanta Hurls (in Belfast) recently and he insisted that he would get the stick framed for me."

Keher travelled up to Belfast on Saturday last to pick up the framed stick at Casement Park from the Belfast company.

"It was such a thrill at the time. I was in the presence of greatness. After all, he was the sportsman of the millennium."
