Maybe its time to start a thread  ???   ;D ;D

Though maybe no need for this, as all we can hear on the radio/podcasts is how can Dublin stop David Clifford!

Anyway, we'll give it a go. Our 2nd semi-final in 35 years and Monaghan. The last few weeks has been great to see in the county. Everyone getting behind our lads.
Monaghan legends of the game in their last year for the county in Hughes and McManus.

GAA Discussion / Admission Prices
June 01, 2012, 09:10:46 AM
Last Sunday in Clones, prices to get into the stand were EUR25.
The hill was EUR15.
The McGrane stand under the hill was also EUR25.

Thought admission into the mcgrane (uncovered seating) at EUR25 was way too much. twentys plenty!!

A very poor crowd was in attendence and heard nothing but complaints regarding the pricing structure. Surely keep away people from further rounds.

Are prices as expensive as this in other provinces??

GAA Discussion / O'Neills rip-off
December 04, 2010, 03:56:30 PM
Anyone else notice the rip off oneills charges its custmosers in the ROI?

On average they charge southern customers 25% extra for the same products. For example, county jerseys are eur60 while the same jersey is sold for stg40 in the north. They are using the 1.5 exchange rate even though it is approx. 1.2 for the last 2 years. stg40 is about eur 47.50 at present.

When on their website, they recognise the location of your IP address and wont allow you to buy in in preferred currency, therby charging 25% more..

so much for the goodwill towards choosing Irish companies to supply our gear when they blatantly abuse the situation by ripping off gaels.... :(

Hurling Discussion / Cheaper hurling helmets
November 23, 2010, 12:22:07 PM
The young lad was looking a new hurling helmet.

Couldnt get over the price of them when i went down the shop. €76 for the mycro ones. Someone then pointed me to Smyths Toys where they are selling helmets for €37.50.
Good price but a make i was unfimiliar with. Aspis is their brand name. Looked up the gaa website and they are approved by them. http://www.gaa.ie/tickets-and-merchandise/approved-suppliers/

Anyone shed any light if they are any good? or are the mycro ones that better quality (twice the prioce!!)?

Subject: New Official GAA Website Solution for Clubs
To:

A chara,

The GAA is unveiling a new website infrastructure for Clubs and this platform will be deployed on Google Sites.

This will cater for all Club websites that are currently hosted under the GAA's arrangement with Sitesuite and Clubs are advised that the existing arrangement is expected to come to an end by December 31 2010.

The infrastructure is very easy to use with extensive functionality and it provides users with great flexibility. A selection of GAA themed templates are available for easy customization to suit your colours and requirements.

Clubs and counties can look after moving their sites from the old system to the new, either through members of the club or through local partners.

Baker Security and Networks also provide a service of migrating your site and more information on the services they provide is included below.

To show some of the features available please visit:

http://conahyshamrocks.gaa.ie

A number of helpful tutorials and documentation is available online to help get clubs to get started.

The following are some helpful links:

The package includes a number of services from DIY to Full Support:

Design Option 1:

Clubs can choose from a selection of pre-designed GAA templates to assist them in getting a website up and running quickly. With this option Clubs will be required to do their own migration of data and customization of their website pages. The website allows for various news feeds from alternative sources and the template is provided for FREE.  The Fixtures and Results module as supplied by Bakers is not included in this option but is available for €50 per annum.

Design Option 2:

Clubs can also use Baker Security and Networks, the company that supported the Google roll out, for an additional cost. The GAA have agreed a special price with Baker which will see them move any existing club site to the Google system for €450 plus VAT. This is a once off fee. This will mean that Bakers will migrate your existing website for a once of payment but clubs will have to administer their website after this work is completed.  The website design is based on a choice of pre-designed GAA templates.  The Fixtures and Results module as supplied by Bakers is not included in this option but is available for €50 per annum.

Naming Service 1. If clubs would like a domain name www.clubname.gaa.ie, then the cost is just €20 per annum. This means clubs will have an active site on gaa.ie domain just for the cost of €20.

Naming Service 2. In addition if you want Baker to manage the DNS (your domain name, www.clubname.ie) there is a change of just €50 per annum.

Automated Fixtures & Results Feed:
Baker can also set up a fixtures and results feed for you for just €50 per annum.

GAA Discussion / Rent on Croke Park down??
February 08, 2009, 01:35:26 PM
Even though there was 78k at the rugby game yesterday, there were several empty corporate boxes. The whole side of the canal stand was empth and a few more at the corners of the cusack. Surely a sign that the recession has taken effect on corporate ireland.

I was led to believe that the rugby corporate rental was huge income to croke park over the last 2 years. On yesterdays evidence surely rent reciepts will be well down in this sector.

In addition, the soccer qualifier on wednesday is only expected to get 50k attendnce. The fai will be srcrewed trying to sell much of their corporate packages in landsowne!!

Looks like the croke park management might just put on a few concerts this year to boost the rental income... u2 anyone??

I see in Irish news that the ulster council have stated that admission prices will remain as they were last year. Dont see how this is possible. ???

With the currency shift between the euro and sterling moving so much in the last 6 months, surely the sterling price will either rise or the euro price will fall???

I presume thats its most likely going be the euro price remaining static (as the gaa central currency is the euro) and the sterling price rising to the euro equivilent. If this is to be the case, i'd foresee a lot of patrons complain about this come summer (especially those who earn their wage in sterling).

the league game on sunday past was €15/£13. League prices are set at croke park. It was €15 last year. Dont know what the sterling price was last year, but imagine it wasnt as much.

January 06, 2009, 02:24:15 PM
Im landed with the position of setting up a decent website for our local club.
Considering putting up fixtures, results, reports, phot gallerys, links to other sites etc.

I would appreciate if anyone could direct me towards decent servers for such websites.

Anyone with any good ones???

GAA Discussion / NFL Div. 2 2009
November 03, 2008, 12:03:03 PM
May as well start it up for this year.

4 teams that remained in the division from last year: Armagh, Monaghan, Cork & Meath.
2 teams relegated to div 2: Laois & Kildare
2 teasm promoted to div. 2 : Fermanagh & Wexford.

A decent set of teams. 2 provisional winners, 2 provisional runners up.

Thinking 3 months ahead, I would fancy Cork to gain promotion while Fermanagh to return back down.

GAA Discussion / Ryder Cup over AI Football final
September 23, 2008, 11:31:55 AM
Taxpayers waste  >:(

Martin Cullen, Minister of sports, declined his 2 free all ireland tickets last sunday.
Instead of watching 70 irish amateur footballers play 2 keenly contested football finals in GAA HQ on sunday past, he chose to fly off to the USA to watch the ryders cup at the taxpayers exspense.

Personally from not knowing whether i'll even have employment in a few months time and trying to pay ever increasing bills, i was sickened to hear this. Are our politicans that removed from reality in this country???

I put this in the gaa discussion, as even ignoring the cost(which in these times is hard to), i cant believe the minister of sport for this country could justify his absense from the football showcase event of the year in favour of a golf corporate junket.

I am not at all happy with these scheduled saturday provincial games.
I think it has been a great tradition each summer playing your local provincial games on a sunday afternoon. it was bad enough moving the throw-in times from 3.30 to 2pm. Now in their great wisdom, the GAA are decided to move some games to a Saturday to facilitate TV.
Sunday afternoon championship is a great family day out. The Sunday experience starts early in the morning and ends late evening.
i think the gaa are completely wrong in destroying this. Going by the saturday games in the play-offs, the atmosphere takes a complete nose-dive. People work on a saturday these days. Also fans will have to contend with heavier traffic by fighting for road space with with more shoppers on a saturday.

My thinking also is that the tv coverage is heading to over-saturation level. More people will be inclined to become the arm-chair supporter. Attendances will fall dramatically for the non-final steages. I have already witnessed this last year in regard the ulster semi-finals. As attendances fall, the spectacle on the tv doesnt look as appealing.

Am i alone in these thoughts are others on here of similar thinking. If so, i may just start complaing to HQ of my sentiments.
