If I were you I'd apply for a job elsewhere in another company, get an offer (that's hopefully better than what you're getting now), hand in your notice, and see if your current employers make a counter-offer.
I think its career suicide to hand in your notice and then accept a counter offer?
Your employers will keep you on, yes, but they'll know you're not happy or loyal and have now just bought themselves some time to find your replacement?
As soon as they do then you're gone, on their terms, not your own...with no job to walk in to

You oul lads are fair putting it away.

I'm in that category and for me it's a combination of things.....I have more money, no mortgage, kids through uni, I work shifts so one week no drink, next week no work to worry about. My tolerance for drink has grown as I've aged....think it's because I'm more relaxed about life....as a friend said we are in the back 9 of life.....only thing is we don't know if we are heading up the 10th or half way down 18th. I love going home for a few days, meeting up with the old gang and having a good drink.
your tolerance doesn't go up because you're more relaxed. People's tolerance for any drug goes up when they consume more of it..... When you stop drinking for a year your tolerance will go down. You will still be relaxed about life but your system will not require the same amount of alcohol to get drunk or buzzed or whatever state you're reaching for....

square ball I've read more than 4 in one sitting and more than 14 across a week would put you into a higher risk category when it comes to alcohol related illnesses...
I would imagine this would have to be sustained over a period of time to qualify

you're your own man... we all have different circumstances and people we have responsibility for and make our own decisions based on that and kepe in mind your own health, both physical and mental...

I have a good mate who took his mum away to dry her out a bit - recognizing she had a bit of a problem. Did great for the weeks away with him in another country. Flew home and her sister and brother in law lifted her at airport got a carry out on way home and sat at house drinking....

The whole not doing anyone any harm crap is enabling the disease and we're losing people unnecessarily.

Anyone watching Manifest?
I am enjoying it so far. It has enough going on to keep me watching- though it may be nostalgia of "Lost" that keeps me tuning in?

Iceman, living in the States, what are your views on 18 Vs 21 as the legal drinking age? I firmly believe that parents and society have a responsibility to teach responsible attitudes to alcohol to their kids, especially when alcohol is likely to or inevitably going to play some part or another in their lives. When I was at college, we'd all been drinking for a few years and while occasionally making a show of ourselves, were used to it and able to handle it to an extent. However I found American students over here, because alcohol is harder to get and there seems to be more of an issue if they're caught drinking underage, would go absolutely buck daft on drink. They'd had little, if any, experience of it and consequently would start getting a little bit messy after even one of two bottles of beer. If they touched spirits it was goodnight for a lot of them.
I don't know if it's as relevant today gallsman. I have teenage nieces and a nephew over here and they all drink. Openly drink at 16, 17 and 18 at family events. I think most kids their age do because it's not a big deal anymore for parents. My nephew would chat away to us about parties where everyone is drunk and smoking weed and all of this is very normal (at least out in WA). Down in FL my nieces are at one house party or another most weekends and there's always alcohol involved on some level. So I think the 18 vrs 21 thing, although still a law, isn't as much of a difference as it would have been in my day at university when american students went clean nuts...
My kids are 10 and younger so haven't go to the alcohol question yet. I'll likely let them try beer and wine and hope that their own experimentations don't go too far...

Venom 6.5/10

Very surprised this wasn't better. Hardy does not give one of his typical performances, his accent (for me) was terrible. The story was ok. It definitely did not feel like a Marvel movie, more like a DC movie. It did not stay true to the comic book story and there's no plans I would imagine to integrate this character in to the current marvel universe on the big screen.

It was also shorter than most block busters. I think about 1hr 40 mins. Not that that should dictate the success or failure of a movie but i remarked on it as we left.

I would wait to watch it on blu ray....

there's a dangerous emphasis on alcohol in Ireland and many places in the world. When you visit or live in a country where life seems to have slower pace, the locals would seem to have a different relationship with alcohol.  When people gather to socialize the food and the conversation and the company would be 90% of the focus and alcohol would be a 10% byproduct? There's no excessive drinking or pushing alcohol on people.
At home in Ireland I think there's a heavy focus on alcohol when people gather, it would nearly be the central focus at times? Weddings, holidays, family parties...the mission is to get as much drink in to you as possible and bring as many people down that road with you as you can.  I read stories on bookface of family holidays in france being described as great because the kids are being watched in a play park and "me and the mrs wrote off on the patio drinking cheap red wine"

I never really enjoyed alcohol in my younger years. I just didn't like the taste. When I went to university I discovered some things I really enjoyed. Too much in many cases. I definitely drank to excess. I lived in the holylands during my placement year and me and one of my house mates worked for leading alcohol distributors. There was an abundance of alcohol in the house and I took full advantage of it. I found my health deteriorating (not seriously, but I lost my fitness) and thankfully got back in to boxing and mma and was able to give it up completely.  I didn't touch it for nearly 5 years in my 20s.

I still take a drink now and again. I enjoy a wee half bottle of buckfast on special occasions or a beer or two or a wee glass of black sambuca on ice to sip on (love licorice). The mrs would have a glass of wine with dinner most nights but she is Italian and grew up that way, always wine at the table.

I had a cousin who was more like a brother half reared in our house who died of alcoholism at 35. 7 years ago now. We didn't really do anything to help him.  In Ireland that seems to be the norm. Buying an alcoholic a pint. I still feel the guilt of it.  The things we do and neglect doing....

My kids will most likely drink. Most kids do right? Hopefully our example at home can show that alcohol doesn't have to be the focus and drunk doesn't have to be the goal.

JK comes across well in interviews. He's articulate. He is knowledgeable in his field and tried in the early days to engage with fans.  He has a decent gym and is one of the highest ranking BJJ black belts in Ireland. As a competitor he was average. Some people are better coaches than fighters (insert sport)....

Outside of the fight game I'm not a fan. He is very opinionated and pushes these opinions on whoever frequents his gym - because its his gym.  He is extremely anti-church, anti-religion (mainly because of his brother I would suspect) and does not tolerate anyone who sides with religion.  Even though he is a "champion for tolerance".... He also enjoys taking foolish letters from fans and broadcasting them on social media and ridiculing the person who sent it.

Not too many people would ever know who he is had it not been for Conor. But Conor needs him. He is a great tactician.

I remember him dishing out digs to lads, particularly boarders at school, all the time. He periodically would kick me if I had my legs stretched out under the desk. He put one lad in the bin for most of a class many times. He definitely was old school when it came to that kind of thing. Acted more like my Dad's school teachers from 60s and 70s than you would have expected in the 90s.

I think when you call a lad a traitor to his country and insult another religion; his father etc and then be suprised what went down sat night!  When you look at McGregor record how many 1-3 seeded fighter did he actually beat! As for holding 2 titled he never bothered to defend 1 of them!
Nobody in MMA overlooks McGregor. They all recognize his skill. How many 1-3 seeded fighters did he beat? Well for starters you don't fight 1-3 ranked fighters until you're at that level.  His last fights have been Mendes at FW (meets your top 3 request), Aldo (#1 at FW and many people P4P top 3 at the time they fought), Diaz, twice (not ranked because of absence but definitely top 3 at LW) Alvarez (#1 at LW).... then he left to fight Floyd.

How do you think he makes his money? Just his showmanship and promotion? He can actually fight!
He got the FMW fight because he has skills and could promote the fight. If he was a quiet Katie Taylor type person nobody would really know who he is, let's be honest.  He would never have had the rise in MMA he had, he would never have been offered a chance at FMW and his name wouldn't be on the famous gaaboard....

I enjoyed the card from top to bottom, some great highlight reel finishes, comeback wins, all out wars and then the main event and antics afterwards.
Well worth the money.

I thought Conor did surprisingly well in the fight. Khabib is as elite as they come on the ground. His style is exhausting. He's like a pitbull who inches closer and closer to the neck.  How he ties up the legs is instinctual and only comes with years of training. There is no escape on the ground once he has you.  Conor did well to delay the inevitable and hoped to crack him on the feet. But he was so focused on avoiding the takedown he ate a huge shot from Khabib that would have KO'ed many fighters.  I see no shame in tapping out. He avoided injury and lives to fight another day. He could still technically fight on the November card in MSG.

I think there was some orchestration Khabib's teams part, to the antics afterwards. The lads climbing in to the cage when the fight was on the other side just seems too suspect. Granted McGregor swiped at a lad climbing out of the cage in to the fight but those two lads both went for him - real dirt.

Rematch.... Conor will want one for the money and can market it.  But he can't beat this boy. There's no adjustments he can make in a short amount of time that would equip him for Khabib.  His ground game is just too far behind. His only chance in a rematch was his same chance in the first fight - to catch him on the way in with the left or a knee.

I'm disappointed with the continued begrudgery from many Irish fans and the delight in his loss.  His antics before a fight are "all business" and if you meet the man in person he's completely different. His real persona is the man who was interviewed by Karen Bryant a couple of days before the fight. A happy, grateful man who came from nothing and now has it all, who still loves the sport and the competition.

Go Bears. Top of the NFC North!

Enjoy it while you can because Trubisky is going to cost that team badly.
he has been terrible so far this season - I'd imagine his stats are about 50% completion - the amount of overthrown and underthrown passes is shocking at that level  - commentators love it
