Has been some outstanding and Great German players and he was probably the best.

His brother said this a year ago.

Franz is suffering from a "significant deterioration that affects both his judgment and his memory, with no prospect of improvement".

In addition, he has had different problems with his health in recent years: two heart surgeries and a hip implant. In addition, in 2019 he revealed that he lost vision in one eye.

Himself and Zagallo were among the three men to captain and coach their countries to WC wins. Zagallo just died over the weekend!

A penalty shootout away from being the second man to manage two World Cup winning teams too. Vittorio Pozzo of Italy the only one to do it in 1934 and 1938. I wrote an article on him a few years ago. An interesting character at an interesting time in history.

Baresi was a big friend of mine. I met him on a boat through the middle of Milan. He wasn't great at Italian which I was surprised at. We kept in touch through his Instagram account which I frequently liked. My thoughts are with the Baresi family at this difficult time.
