If SF weren't intending to play the ball why are they even within 20 yards of the ball? It's egg shaped and bounces randomly. Take the risk out and stand on the side of the field away from it.
There are some really random things in the sport. Not least the KO where they charge down the field even though the ball has been booted into the far stand. Weird.

No, as it wasn't a request for an explanation or help with understanding.

It was a characteristically arrogant post where he simultaneously failed to display an understanding of that particular facet of the game in general and the specifics of the incident that happened last night, even after it was explained to him.

The kickoffs need a real overhaul. Either move the kick back 30 yards and encourage returns or do away with them and just start offense from the 25 yard line

It's not that long ago that they moved the kick offs forward as the amount of injuries coming from special teams plays was higher than any other plays. I don't think they can really abolish them though as while in the majority of games they're pointless. If you're 2 scores down late in the game, the possibility of an onside kick still gives you a chance. They would need to come up with an alternative to that before taking it out of the game.

Ah true.  I forgot about the onside kicks. It's a bit of a mess.

As they are free agents it can be any time.
They could be asked to go on a practice squad which is the first step but no deadline for them to see if they are going to make it or not.

Best case scenario is teams start offering them a spot this week or next
