Hurling Discussion / Re: Helmets

Could each team not wear the same colour helmets, possibly the same colour as their jerseys, rather than the mish mash we see at the moment

Kerry 1-14  Tipperary 2-14

Sin é

Great news.. Madness to think that Tipp might have to play them again to win All Ireland after beating them twice

Even greater madness to think that in Ulster, Armagh minors who scored 19 points against Tyrone in the first round, don't even get a second chance.

Physics really pisses me off. Those involved in the physics discipline readily admit that there is loads of stuff that remains unexplained  e.g. Higgs Boson. However despite the lack of knowledge about this and other issues around the creation of the universe they are still not prepared to accept intelligent design as a logical alternative to their as yet unproven theories as to how it all began.

If there was any interest in building a team based on the greatest sides in the country then the availability of players from the end of march for a game in June would not be a problem.  The others would have a chance to claim a place in the early part of the year and the system of play would ensure that the Cross players would want and could be fitted into the squad and team.

Unless the whole management is cleaned out then there will be no hope of moving on.  There is one South Armagh man who can put manners on the county board and we can only ope that he is able to wield the power of the cheque book by calling the shots for the money he provides.  I know that I will withdraw my monthly payment if there is a continuation with any remnants of the current management team allowed to go forward.

Right, for a start this suggestion that there should be no problem with the Cross lads only being available from the end of March is nonsense. By that time nearly all of the competitive football at county level through McKenna Cup and League has been played.

As regards HM ffs it was him that was instrumental in bringing Paddy O'Rourke in in the first place. I see HM as part of the problem not part of the solution. There has to be something wrong when the team sponsor is carrying the footballs onto the field before a challenge match. You don't see the CX of Vodafone hanging round the Dublin dug out.

Why did POR get the Armagh job in the first place. I'd say there wasn't a county in Ireland that would have let him manage their team, but Armagh did. It baffles me who actually appointed him.

I seem to remember that at the time the players were given the opportunity to nominate in a secret ballot and all he got was one nomination.

No. Couldn't make it. Had to leave the young lad down to Belfast to get a train to the Irish Open. Glad I wasn't there now.

I assume it's appropriate to resurrect this thread.

A rather sweeping statement ! I'm not convinced that a few posters on an internet discussion board could be termed as 'the majority of listeners'

It's quite simple - M O'M is considered a legend for comments like these yet when Sidebottom makes comments of a similar nature he's called a tool. BTW I heard Ger Canning say just now after Meath got a score to make in 2 -1, 'That's the equalising score' so they all make mistakes.

The great Michael never came out with shite like this;

QuoteHustle, Bustle, Muscle!

"Teddy looks at the ball, the ball looks at Teddy" If Sidebottom said that people would want him strung up. That being said, Sidebottom isn't a patch on the guy who is commentating on the Arnagh match on Shannonside Radio

Can't understand what all the fuss is about. I see little difference in the type of quips he makes and those which Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh used to make:

"1-5 to 0-8...well from Lapland to the Antarctic, that's level scores in any man's language".

"He grabs the sliotar, he's on the 50......he's on the 40......he's on the 30....... he's on the ground".

"Colin Corkery on the 45 lets go with the right boot. Its over the bar. This man shouldn't be playing football. He's made an almost Lazarus-like recovery from a heart condition. Lazarus was a great man but he couldn't kick points like Colin Corkery".

"In the first half they played with the wind. In the second half they played with the ball."

"Setanta Ó hAilpín....the original Setanta from the old Gaelic stories was ten foot tall, had ten fingers on each hand and ten toes on each foot but even he couldn't be playing better hurling than his namesake here today"

"Anthony Lynch, the Cork corner-back, would be the last person to let you down - his people are undertakers"

"Teddy looks at the ball, the ball looks at Teddy"

" Dublin have scored two points, one from the hand and one from the land"

"I see John O'Donnell dispensing water on the sideline. Tipperary, sponsored by a water company. Cork Sponsored by a tae company. I wonder will they meet later for afternoon tae".

"Danny "The Yank" Culloty. He came down from the mountains and hasn't he done well".

"He kicks the ball lan san aer, could've been a goal, could've been a point.............it went wide".
