General discussion / Re: Graham Linehan on Twitter / Trans debate
« on: January 26, 2023, 12:26:36 PM »
You raise multiple different issues there seafoid.

1.   Womenís rights Ė yes, that is a tough one. There will be women who are afraid to use a restroom where transwomen are allowed, especially with all the fear mongering about rape. I donít know what the answer is. Transwomen are widely subject to assault also. Do you make them use the menís room where they are going to be at considerable risk when they appear to be a normal woman? What about their rights to safety? Although I guess thatís an easy one if you just deny their existence. The large institution where I work has gender neutral restrooms and a lot of young people who would have no issue with transsexuals. I've been working there five years. Never heard of any incidents.

2.   Fast tracking surgery- I donít agree with this either, although Iím not aware of it being a big problem (if youíve data, go ahead and present it).

3.   Kids using trans-identification as an escape from abuse Ė as with anything, Iím sure this has happened. People will always look at all the options in desperate situations. Does that mean a majority or even significant minority of those who realise they are transsexual are doing so as a result of abuse? IS there any data to support this? This claim has also been widely leveled at homosexuality over the years, including by some on this very board.

What is the contingency if the GAA order a replay and KC tell them to go f**k themselves? (Which I think they will)

As with a lot of things GAA, theyíll probably make it up as they go along.

There is a very large trans contingent on line and a large trans lobby. There was no such phenomenon 20 years ago or indeed at any time in the past.
There is no history anywhere of trans people barging into womens toilets or vaginoplasty for men or sex offenders screaming to be sent to the female wings of prisons.
A trans woman was executed in the US recently. This person had raped and murdered a woman.

It's all new. A lot of it seems to have been  driven initially  by surgical developments.
Gay marriage was different . There have always been gay people at x% of the population. There will always be lesbians.

There has never been a trans population at the current level. Because it's fake.

How do you know?

Do you know anyone who is trans?

Half the board would be out with the torches and pitchforks going by their talk here. And thatís 10-15 years into transsexuality becoming normalized.

What transsexual in their right mind would have had the guts to come out of the closet way back when? In most cases, plain old gay people couldnít do it (especially in Ireland where it was criminalized).

Surgery, in some form, has been around for decades. Al Pacino even tried to rob a bank in a film 50 years ago to try to pay for sex change surgery as it was then know.

So itís all a fraud and really about men trying to get away with rape and winning womenís swimming medals?

What about women transitioning into men?

Are they ok?

In the case of these rapists all transitioning when they are charged with offences? Yeah I would say itís a fraud

Well yeah, but that wasnít the question.

Was reading The Athletic profile of Bielsa and his conditions/demands there.

Fascinating man! Everton would be doing well to get him, although they would have to be patient and give him a chance, no matter what happens the rest of the season.

I was wondering about that.

Given that it is most likely that we will go down and NOT make the Ulster Final this year, and Roscommon are likely in the same boat in their situation, could we end up in the Tailteann Cup?

The good thing for us both is that the likes of Dublin and Derry are extremely good bets to at least make their provincial finals, as are a number of those who would likely finish above us in the league, so I'd say we should be all right when it comes to the seven next-best ranked league teams.

I agree it was a mistake.
But rules can be broken by accident.

I've very little doubt that the rule was broken by accident. A wise man once told me, don't go to the court looking for justice, because all you'll get is the law! In this case KC had 16 men defending the 45 regardless of how long it was for or whose fault it was. It's a shitty situation. I dare say we wont come out of it with everybody happy. I just hope is doesn't drag out beyond whatever decision the CCCC makes.

Could end up like the mess with the 2020 Donegal county final (played autumn 2021).

Naomh Chonaill used too many subs in extra time, so Kilcar objected to their win on penalties.

Replay ordered by Donegal CCC, NC appealed to Ulster CCC who told them to start it all again, then eventually Donegal CCC let NC keep the win but fined them 5000 euro.

Only took until February 2022 to resolve!

Many biological traits exist on a spectrum or don't fit into neat pigeon holes. How can those who are so upset by transsexuality be so certain that sex and gender identity donít?

Itís a fact that some people are born with ambiguous physical sexual characteristics. Traditionally theyíve just been assigned one or the other at birth. No sane person denies anymore that some people are born with sexual preferences that depart from the traditional male-attracted-to-female and vice versa ďnormĒ. Why is it so beyond the realms of possibility and acceptability that gender identity and physical sexual characteristics are not tied together quite as tightly as we traditionally thought?

Many homosexual people still have to stay in the closet due to prejudice from their families, communities and, even to this day in many places, legal discrimination and repression. Do any of you feel that that is the way things should be? And if not, what if youíre wrong about transsexuality? Should your discomfort and prejudice mean that the lives of those people should be limited and repressed to make you feel better? What is it to you if the person down the street gets gender altering surgery or just changes their gender identity without the surgery?

Good for Glen.

Disgrace that they had to take the initiative to force action however.

In Fairness  if it was a Tyrone team in place of Dubs,  we would already have decided that they did it on purpose and  a replay would already be ordered a or the game would be awarded to the opposition ;)

I can't believe it's taken over a hundred replies for Tyrone to be hard done by out of this!!

 ;D

Glenn are being thrown under the bus here in my opinion. Thereís no doubt that having an extra defender in a crowded area where a crucial 45 is being defended is an advantage. Match should be replayed. If thereís a fine it should be placed on the incompetent officials.

Exactly.

This is embarrassing for the GAA. But they probably donít even see it.

As Seafoid says, it should not be their decision. If rules were broken, then there should be a specified penalty. Glenís wishes should be irrelevant.

Once again the GAA is a f**king joke when it comes to rules and discipline.

There are no rules or regulations. Just vague guidelines and recommendations and fuzzy maths which clubs and counties laugh at when yet again gettting themselves off the hook.

Lampard, like Gerrard, needs to properly earn his way up the chain to the Premier League, either by being manager lower down the chain, or working under someone in the PL.

Neither would have gotten anywhere near the jobs they had if not for their previous status as elite-level players.
