This may not be true but didn't someone once say:

"Put me in midfield and build the rest of the team around me"

or when Maurice Fitzgerald was once asked how many All Ireland medals he had he said "fifteen"

There's a famous story in Cavan about Gerald Pierson. Gowna were in a county final some years back, they were under the cosh a bit and the manager was giving a blood and thunder speech at half time. Gerald stands up, a hush descends to hear his words of wisdom and he pronounces "Look lads, just pass me the fooking ball and I'll win ye a county title"

Nothing comes closer to what the GAA means ,IMO. The Rossies will never forget Dermot Earley, for example.
Tyronies will always watch those 2003-2008 videos. Especially if they end up in D4 at some stage.

This kind of recognition is timeless

I liked the story of Down v Kerry in the 60s. Can't remember the year or players involved. But Down were ahead near full time, and the Kerry player asks the ref "how longs left?". The Down player was nearby, and says "365 days".
