Hurling Discussion / Re: Questions
August 04, 2019, 11:23:57 AM
Enda Rowland scored a point for Abbeyleix from a puck-out in the Senior championship game in O'Moore Park last night.
I'd say he was going for a goal but couldn't keep it down.  Listed in official results (E Rowland 0-2 , 1 free, 1 puck-out)

I do take a peek in here to find out what's happening in my home county now and again. I have to say I got diverted for an hour this morning after Zooms post above. I now know more about the form of Scipio Aemilianus Africanus and the Romans than I do about the form of Cha for the championship. Great stuff.

The shift in the parish is one thing, the fact that there are a majority of members of the two clubs who want to form a new club is the problem. So what they should be doing now is accepting the vote outcome and getting in there and becoming more involved with their existing club.
Both clubs are capable of reaching  a senior final and both have a bit of pride in that they remain two of the few clubs that have not amalgamated. It's not all about winning a county final, particularly if it has to be won the way this year's was won.

What it is about is getting young lads to enjoy playing hurling and for each club to go on and produce a few players for their county. Both clubs have done this in the past, (Eugene/Kevin Fennelly,  Maggie Walsh, etc) and can do it again.  It's not the make up of the two clubs in terms of players being available that is the problem here, the problem is the county board don't give a shit about hurling compared to football.

Makes Ballinakill look a tad embarrassed I think. They voted very strongly (except for 15) in favour) and now Abbeyleix don't want them by an equally large majority with less than 20 in favour. The only thing I would hope for now is that there is no fallout in either club but I can't understand how a few good tally men and a few soundings could not have avoided the whole process.

If I was in Ballypickas surrounded by Ballinakill, Spink, Ballyroan/Abbey, Abbeyleix, Id feel like a black man in Alabama.

Scully was bad enough with his comments, some just get carried away when their head gets too big for their shoulders but the bile it generated in other replies to Colm on twitter was disgusting and for as long as those posts are left on twitter.  One tweeter "Test" set up a new account to spew.. A referee shouldn't be engaged in this carry on and following up with a post  " Best of luck to Portlaoise" can be seen through as a reason  for leaving the post on twitter that should be removed.

@bigpackiechestout,
So that's what you took out of my post, that I spelt Kavanagh with a K rather than a C.   The point I was making was about the vitriol that people are spitting from behind false names.

Heres' one of your own posts from recently:   "Parkinson has a tendency to sneer and look down his nose at others which is very offputting. Take a quick look through his twitter replies to people questioning his proposed 'tweaks' to the playing rules and his reponses are all a variation on WTF would you know. Then he also sneers at pundits like McGuiness or other pundits and journalists that he claims try to overanalyse the game or 'use too many big words'

It amazes me how anyone could spell McGuinness with one N when this man has led a county team to an All-Ireland while Tyrone kick the Sheet out of each other and castigate their own players on public forums.

I haven't been here for a while and I am glad I no longer subscribe to the vitriol spewed out here every day by keyboard warriors hiding behind fancy handles.  I have great time for Tyrone and Armagh, none more so than when we did the golf classic for the Cormac Trust Fund and the nicest of lads drove down and supported it from Crossmaglen and Tyrone.  I don't know Sean Kavanagh but I do know that the likes of him and Brian Dooher, Canavan and the rest of that era put their heart and soul into Tyrone.  It is obvious from some of the posts here that a few of you have been waiting in the long grass for the first chance from behind your false names to ridicule a man who is first and foremost a GAA man who has wife and family who are exposed to some of the diatribe coming from two posters in particular.  Don't buy Sean's book if you think it upsets you that much.  If you think he is not up to your standard you don't have to meet him, he won't go looking for you Im sure. If you are jealous that you haven't got the brains toi write a book of your own or the balls to write a book then that is nobody's fault only your own, don't use your venom to make public statements on here that will stay here for years even when you are gone to vilify someone else on some other board and Sean's sons or daughters have to read it.

Laois / Re: 2018 Joe McDonagh Cup
May 08, 2018, 09:39:32 AM
Last week on here ye were talking about lifting cups in Croke Park, now ye are talking about being doubtful of beating a Kerry hurling team that is after being beaten by Carlow.  So, as the horse said to the jockey "Is it you that's getting heavy or is it me that's getting slow?"  Are the other counties after improving that much?  Or have Laois dis-improved that much since we played Galway. At least when players were getting sent off and everyone was complaining about indiscipline those players were getting sent off because they were motivated enough in the first place.  So what is wrong? It's not a population issue because if there was all out war the hurling populations of Carlow, Kerry and Antrim are not going to take over the country.  If the players are giving their all in terms of commitment to training, and I believe they are, then it is either one of two other problems. Either the sideline is wrong or the problem that exists in a lot of other counties is wrong where the county board divert all their interest to football and don't give a flying about hurling or where they end up. Maybe both.

And, I am not calling for the managers head here, not at all.  That is the easy thing to do, especially from a keyboard. What I am saying is, identify the problem. No manager is perfect in all areas unless he has a proper support team around him, unless there is a solid wall that says, "I am in charge and I ain't listening to anyone else"  Same for players and it is good to see on here that,  unlike other forums, there is very little singling out of named players and judgement's being passed and that posters for the most part appreciate the efforts they are making.

Looking at the social media pages in Westmeath there seems to have been two different approaches to this game, Westmeath manager said "during meetings all week the importance of everyone stepping u including the subs was discussed" and the players interviewed after the match refer to a "motivational meeting held on Friday night".  I don't want to be butting in here but it seems to me, and I hope I am wrong, that the lads are putting in the work and training hard and giving their all for the county. However,  there are very little team performances, it used to be a sending off was an excuse for playing with 14 men.  If the lads are giving it their all in training that is no use unless they are motivated like they were when they played Galway last year.  I believe they are not motivated enough to get off a bus much less break a hurl and the team deserves better.

Bud have you ever looked at this company?

https://airnettv.com/

Seems OK but I can't see the full spec.  An extra €25 for the mouse that comes with it is rough.
I'm with Zoomtak  5 - 6 yrs now. I don't have any problems, buffering is non existant etc.  Like I said, if the spec does not have 802.11AC then if you are moving it from room to room/telly to telly it will not be a great buy.  After that it is down to chipset, making sure it has aluminium housing (heat sink to stop heat build up) and a decent chipset.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2014/12/30/802-11ac-vs-802-11n-wifi-whats-the-difference/#2ec2d0383957

The next protocol to be released. or is released is 802.11AC  Wave 2, so, whatever about not having it, if you buy something with older wireless than 802.11AC  as close to 2018 as we are you are not buying a product that will give you the best return in a years time if you are depending on WiFi.

Coming back to the question I was asked,  (I am well aware Laoislad that you dont need a box with a smart TV, Fair observation on your part)  the tech from Zoom came back this morning and provided the spec for the latest release as below:

Note: The throughput/bandwidth of the Ethernet connection is 1GB so if you have good broadband, ideally fiber and a 4K TV then this is the job for you because streaming a 4K film through a 10/100mbps TV or over WiFi will not give the same results, especially as the quality of streaming, including 3D becomes more advanced.

Also, for the record, I am not trying to sell these here, I have given the information that I am aware of from years of selling boxes along with the cost price from the supplier so whether you don't need a box or you do need a box I couldn't give a flying.  If you do need one then form a group of 5, and buy 5 minimum Qty or if you wish you can buy one off me at the same price as I buy it for.

Main reason for Pic:  Lady confirms that the model I suggested DOES have 802.11AC Wireless protocol and that being so it is 5 times faster than the oldeer versions that are becoming redundant, and will be in 2018.  You may need to upgrade your router =  GOOGLE "Krack Attack" or see new thread
