Rovers get a flat fee and any merchandise they can get out of the 10,500 punters there. Great publicity, a five figure match fee and a great day out for the fans at no risk to the club.

And the councellors get to hobknob with the Real Madrid people. Everyone wins.

Benzema scored with about 5 to go. Finished 1-0 to Madrid, Rovers will be happy, no injuries a few Bob in the bank and some great PR. The important game is against Bohs next week.

After all the hype about Madrid not buying defenders, surely most of that can be put to bed tonight with that clean sheet. Good result for the Spaniards.

Every programme on RTE radio 1 today had something about this event, a meaningless preseason game attended by less people than were in Ballybofey at Derry v Donegal. However did the PR was world class, whatever about the players.
