I have an old style iPod Classic which has been well looked after and still in great nick and is still of great personal value. Have all my CDs on it. However still plenty of room to add on further tracks. However I upgraded my laptop last year and it is not compatible with the iPod. I've looked at the various videos on youtube but I never seem to be able to go through all the steps. Is it possible to overcome this issue or do I need to move on and sign up to a streaming service?

I don't use a streaming service for music, one does not have to. You can even download from Spotify and use a music converter app to allow you to remove their protection.
Is all your music still stored in the ITunes library? I assume you just want to be able to transfer to and delete music from your ipod?

Windows 10.

I assume all my music is stored on my ITunes library (as it is still on my iPod) but I cannot see it on my current laptop, as I think the old iPod is incompatible with this OS. My intention would be to add music to my current iPod if I could get it working.

With not paying delivery via prime it was just as cheap as some of the ink specialists as far as I could see

Unless you formatted your hard drive, your iTunes library should be stored in the iTunes folder  in your laptop,  User/Music / iTunes.  Try a software media  application called Media Monkey, It should recognise your ipod when it´s connected and  you can use it instead of iTunes. If your laptop still does not mount your iPod then do a search with some of these words *windows 10 ipod support/not recognising/not mounting*.

Tried to back up computer documents onto a hard drive - get the message "The filename(s) would be too long for the destination folder. You can shorten the filename and try again, or try a location that has a shorter path."

This happened lots of folders. Tried googling it and there is plenty of stuff on it but can't find any way around it. Is there a way? Can shorten name but all the folders that popped up as too long aren't, as some are as short as 10 letters long.

If I press 'skip' does the whole contents of that folder not transfer to hard drive?

Could be something to do with the file path, if there are too many folders they can be all included in the file name when transferring e.g //documents/blah/blahblah/blahblahblah/filename.doc . I've experienced this with windows before, there is a limit to the characters in the file path it can handle but generally the limit is fairly long

Look-Up! is on the right track, the problem is not the length of the file name but the total of the directory path and file names. Shortening a few of the very long directory names should help.

For instance I ripped a classical CD and it called the directory "Maria Chiara, Kristjan Johansson, Etc.; Nello Santi_ Arena Di Verona Orchestra &" and then the music has names like "12 Verdi_ Aida - Act 4_ Già I Sacerdoti Adunansi.mp4" so you end with a seriously long name when you combine the directory and file name.

Just did a quick google check there, there is a 260 character limit for Windows 10

I think the directory thing is the problem, not only the length of the names but the number of levels.
There will only be be handful of these, but they are blocking easy backup.

I tend to make the main folder names long but when the sub folders are all added it to then it will be too long.

Is there any quick way to check directory path lengths as I have a lot of folders to back up and will take me good while to go through all of them individually?

In Windows 10 there's an option to 'always allow' long file names by editing registry... Not as daunting as it sounds, courtesy of Google
