Quote from: Wildweasel74 on June 28, 2025, 10:02:15 PMThey got the strongest club fball in the country.

With plenty of out of town lads in it who they can't pick.

The overall standard is still of great benefit to the massive amount of quality local players who are eligible. The right man will be ahead of most counties.

Kerry the better team but we left it behind us.

From a Cavan point of view, very happy with scoreline after watching first 20 mins. Very disappointed with scoreline after witnessing last 5.

Just seen Russia offering political asylum to Musk. Some bit of wumming by Putin. Very sick joke.

Quote from: RedHand88 on June 06, 2025, 01:06:43 PMReuters saying now there is no planned call.
Probably the sensible option for now.

The ability to articulate your position respectfully and intelligently has left US politics. The art of diplomacy is dead over there. It's been taken over by a sort of Wall Street trading floor bravado. Bullying and shouting loudest wins. And social media is the perfect medium to get the simple message to your mob.

What can you do but laugh and enjoy the popcorn.

Quote from: Look-Up! on June 06, 2025, 11:13:14 AMSome mess. America is a joke shop. Bannon rowing in with his two cents worth too!!! Some craic if he got his way, had Musk declared illegal and deported. That would mean the president hired an illegal alien to gut the federal government  :o . Oh the irony plus there's gotta be a few serious breaches of law there too. How would the MAGA brigade spin that one?

Phone call will be interesting. I don't know about the amicable solution bit. Two giant and extremely fragile egos collide. I'd imagine both beforehand would be expecting to control the narrative and a climb down of some sort from the other. Biting their tongue is something neither has ever had to do so first sign it's not going their way, they'll both be at it like travellers on youtube again. On top of that God can only imagine what's being whispered in their ears by their lackeys. Can't be anything sensible or stable.

You would expect there would be people in their ears saying this can't continue but then nothing has been normal over there for the last decade or so.

Yes you would expect but even if there are sensible whispers, they still need to be decoded in the brain. So that's a dice roll on both sides. We've seen how very simple phots lately have been interpreted and once he goes with something, his handlers are clearly afraid to correct him no matter how absurd. Plus the propensity for both of them at crazy hours in the morning to take to social media like a sailor on leave. How do you control that?

On a serious note, I thought Onana was supposed to be some sort of sweeper keeper great at distribution (or maybe I got my wires crossed). If so, how could they have got it so badly wrong.

Still a market for those type of phones. Depending on what type of work you do, especially farming, they might be preferrable. If you have an accident, are alone and bleeding, your smart phone may not be operable if bloodied screen.

Starlink is a great option for broadband. Pity about the owner though.

Quote from: tiempo on June 05, 2025, 03:00:06 PMBrailsford gone, another to bleed a few million out of the club I expect

Must not been enough asthma about the place for him to be any use

In Wilcox we trust, heard he was an absolute amadan in his day, remarkable how he's sneaked into that role and remains
What some would call anyone that thinks Roy Keane should manage Manchester United, have Rory Beggan as Goalkeeper and Scott McTominay as a striker.

Rory Beggan could not be worse than Onana (worst keeper in UTD history) 100%....definitely on par...

Utd would have been better off with McTominay this season and most should agree...

The Roy Keane one? Well you can sort it out yourselves LOL.....
McTominay in goal and Beggan up front would probably be an improvement on Utd this year. Keane might be stretching it alright.

Quote from: Baling Twine on May 27, 2025, 05:37:32 PMHow do Man Utd end up owning so many players that are lazy and happy to collect a big wage for doing nothing?

It's a culture that will prove very difficult to change unless they're prepared to spend a few years fixing it by changing their overall wages model.

United are one of the few clubs in the world that carries a full squad of players earning £100k+ a week, which must cause them problems in multiple ways.

The key one being that if a player isn't the right fit, almost nobody in Europe can afford to take him onto their wage bill, and definitely not when paying a substantial transfer fee on top. So he just hangs around, drawing millions from the club, and not having to actually earn a penny of it.

Another issue is that when a player  turns a corner and puts in a run of good performances, the club then increasing their wages to reflect his increased value, only exacerbates the main issue, when that form inevitably drops. This is also usually the point when United fans clamour "pay him whatever he wants", especially in the last two years of a contract.

I'd also expect there's an issue with hierarchy. Football team wages should be structured like big businesses. By paying serious wages only to the top tier, it incentivises the next tier(s) by giving them something to aim for. By tying the lower tier final pay packets - in the form of bonuses - to  overall performance, it helps drive standards from the bottom up.

Fundamentally United need to stop giving £5m+ a year to people who underperform.
Bang on.

Quote from: seafoid on May 22, 2025, 05:37:38 PMMan United went through a similar process after Matt Busby retired. He was like AlexFerguson and won league titles and the European Cup. In the 70s and early 80s Man Utd went through numerous managers and struggled to win anything. This lasted until Ferguson arrived.
Man Utd is waiting for the Messiah.
They might be ringing Big Sam in the meantime.

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on May 22, 2025, 05:20:36 PMUtd are bad and that happens, plenty of teams go through the mill and some come out the other side. Social media makes it seem important, its not really, there are two things to play for each year, the league and the CL, that is how clubs in the top tier are judged..

Season is over and out, god knows how they go next year, but at least i can't get any worse :o
That's what people thought after ETH. But it can always get worse. Bar playing Amad, nothing has improved under Amorim. He has improved nothing bar a bit of charisma in interviews. Everything else has got worse. That's a huge issue.

Don't think they'll change anything this summer. But make no mistake, if they spend big this summer and need to sack him in the autumn and suddenly decide this philosophy doesn't suit the club and go a different direction again. Then find themselves with new deadwood and seller's remorse on some of the players let go, things will absolutely get worse.
