Has anyone else been following this trial? I new she was guilty from the start. All of her evidence and defence was weak. Basically saying it wasn't me must have been someone trying to frame me.

Sharon Collins guilty of murder conspiracy
Wednesday, 9 July 2008

A jury has convicted Sharon Collins of conspiracy to murder her partner and his two sons.

Collins, who had denied she was 'lyingeyes98', has also been convicted of soliciting an Egyptian poker dealer to murder her partner and his two sons.

The jury could not agree a verdict on conspiracy charges against Essam Eid.

AdvertisementCollins of Kildysart road, Ennis, Co Clare, and Eid from Las Vegas had denied three charges of conspiracy to murder.

Eid has been convicted of extortion and handling stolen goods after he demanded €100,000 from PJ Howards's son, Robert, to cancel the contract.

He was remanded in custody and a date for sentence will be set in October.

Collins was comforted by family members as the jury of eight men and four women found her guilty on the first charge.

The seven-week trial heard how she searched the Internet for a contract killer and paid a €15,000 deposit to have her partner and his sons murdered.

The jury found Eid guilty of demanding money with menace from Robert Howard and of handling stolen goods.

During the trial, the 45-year-old Ennis woman told the court she was not 'lyingeyes98' - the name of the email account used to hire a hitman.

Reacting to the verdict, PJ Howard and sons Robert and Niall say they are relieved the trial has come to a conclusion and are prepared to get on with their lives.

GAA Discussion / Ray Cosgrove retires.
May 14, 2008, 10:12:54 AM
Ray Cosgrove is retiring from the inter-county scene.

A great Dub but its probably the right decision at this stage. Some great memories of him in the sky blue. Who will ever forget his performances in 2002?
Hopefully he'll carry on a club level. Too many of the top players retire completely too young.

Are Ogra Shinn Fein off message or is it SF policy to "smash Stormont" and support Hamas in Palestine?

GAA in denial
18 September 2007

The GAA has denied that up to 100 people were refused entry to Croke Park for the All-Ireland finals last Sunday because they had very young children with them.

One Cork fan, Myles Sunderland, said he and his 20 month old son John were forced to watch the SFC decider in a hotel because Myles and his wife had only two tickets - in different areas.

Mr. Sunderland maintained that his ticket was for an area where John could sit on his knee.
However a GAA spokesman said insurance requirements were such that each patron needed a ticket.

Has to be the hurling for me. No football game has come close to the hurling championship for pure entertainment and drama.

There was a discussion on the radio this morning concerning the fitness of referees. Cyril Farrell was complaining that the refs aren't fit enough to keep up with the fitness levels of the modern game and that they are 30-40 yards of the action when they are giving decisions. Fr Gardinar the GAA referees spokesman was defending them saying that there are tough fitness tests for the top refs and that refs are doing a good job with no real controversial issues this year.

Personnally I can't see how you can expect a ref, most of whom are in there 40s, to keep up with 30 young athletes. The ref is probably required to run more than most players who can stop for a breath when the balls at the other end of the field. As for hurling - how can anyone keep up with play when the top players can drive a ball 90 yards in a second.

No suggested solutions from Cyril but may be it's time to consider using 2 refs, one for each half of the field? Is it worth considering for the top matches or maybe just for hurling?

Do you guys get paid your full pay when you ring in sick? Unbelievable!! No wonder the 6 counties are bankrupt and everybody wants to work for the government rather than creating real wealth in the private sector.

You're probably better off on the sick what with not travelling to work an buying lunches etc and no child care costs. How do the public put up with it? Do they no realise they are paying for the lazy b**tards to lay about at home? Oh I forgot- Britain picks up the tab. So that's all right then.

GAA Discussion / Riot at Tyrone club match
April 16, 2007, 05:12:54 PM
The're worse than the annimals  that follow Linfield & Rangers. The two clubs must be expelled from the Association. That's the only thing that will send out the right signal to the rest of these Knackers.

Violence halts club match in Tyrone

16 April 2007

Sunday's Division 1A FL meeting of holders Dromore and Ardboe had to be called off due to a frightening outbreak of violence.

Intercounty referee Michael Hughes was left with no choice but to abandon the match when fighting broke our between players and supporters in the second half.

Concerned O'Neill County chiefs are set to investigate the incidents that led to the embarrassing climax.

Tyrone CCC secretary Aodhan Harkin revealed: "There will be an inquiry, and knowing Michael Hughes, his report was probably in this morning,"

"It doesn't bode well, second game of the season, it's not what anybody wants to see. But these things have to be dealt with.

"I understand it was a free-for-all involving players and supporters."

This follows a worrying trend in club football in Tyrone, where referees have threatened to withdraw their services amid escalating abuse and intimidation.

GAA Discussion / Hurling & Football Sections?
February 12, 2007, 11:44:07 AM
A couple of regular respected, posters have suggested that there should be a separate section for hurling in the hope that it will encourage more hurling fans to use the site.  I am a fan of bothcodes and I don't agree. We have lost a few of the good huling posters over the past few months but putting hurling off in a section of it's own is not the answer in my opinion. I think the layout is ok with GAA and Non GAA. What do you all think?

Leinster Council hands out suspensions
17 November 2006

The Leinster Council has come down hard on Carlow champions Palatine after Westmeath referee Pat Fox was assaulted during their recent club championship quarter-final against Rhode of Offaly.

F. Joe Kilmurray (Rhode player) - suspended for four weeks in accordance with Rule 142 T.O. This penalty also includes the next game in the competition even if the next game falls outside the suspension period.

N.B. In the case of (A) above the suspension commences from the date of his last game played.

GAA Discussion / Referees Recruitment Drive
November 17, 2006, 10:11:14 AM
Nicky Brennan has launched a referees recruitment drive. He's trying to encourage more (especially ex-players) to take up the whistle. I only managed to play a few junior match this year and I'll not be toggin out next year unless we're down to 14. I was sort of thinkin about refereeing. Are any posters on here refs who would share their experience? What's the selection procedure? How are you treated by players, officials and supporters. How do they decide what matches yiou should ref? How many games do you have to do a week? Things like that.
