General discussion / Re: Holy Hour & Good Friday

What is the actual thinking behind not eating meat on Good Friday? I mean where did this idea come from?
I heard a story, dont know if its true, but it goes that at some point the fishermen of Italy/Rome were in financial ruin. So the Vatican decreed that every friday you had to eat fish and not meat to bolster the fishing industry. Could be a loada beezwax but just wondering what the real story is.

Just after reading The Road... holy jaysus it was an exprience!  Very hard to put down and some of the imagery in it would turn your stomach.  But a serious read none the less

It's a grim read alright and compelling to the end. Leaves you stunned at the end.
Recently read Blacklands by Belinda Bauer...really good read too. Its about a cub who starts writing to a child serial killer to try to find out where he buried his dead child uncle. I good read.

This indicates a corrupt registry.
Note easy fixed (and indeed might not be fixable at all) unless you know what you're doing.
Easiest option would be to re-install your operating system from your system discs.

It's very good.

Anyone found a good download site for this?
I've heard a lot of good things about The Wire too but never seen it. Anyone know where I can download this from either?

Difficult to call this one. Both teams really need a win and both teams not playing well.
I dont think Derry can play much worse than they did last week and I'm hoping the experimentation is coming to an end as we need to get some sort of settled team before the championship.
Monaghan at home and with the recent history of these 2 teams will be a factor.
Impossible to call, 50-50.

I was in Armagh today for the St. Patrick's Day Parade....guess who was leading the procession all smiles to everyone!
The Cardinal himself.
I found this very inapproriate given that the majority of those there were children. Children similar to those that were abused as a result of inaction by the Cardinal and those around him and the disgraceful behaviour that went on. Very poor taste IMO.

I have every sympathy for Cardinal Brady in this affair - he was bound by the rules of the church - just like a lawyer is bound by confidentiality, he reported the actions to his superior who should then have taken the necessary action - the bishop didn't take the correct actions, so was it Cardinal Bradys responsibiluty - probably yes.

He was caught between a rock and a hard place.

Also - did the teenagers parents know about the abuse, were they involved in the meetings etc, why did they not take the case to the police instead of the church?
Should they then also be charged in court?

Complete rubbish.

Blame somebody else. That's the way to do it.

Brady KNEW in 1975 that Smyth was raping little, innocent children and continued to do so whilst Smyh was moving around from parish to parish whilst Brady was moving up the ranks of the church.

It's not good enough for Brady to say that he acted - he DIDN'T. It's not good enough to say that he wasn't the designated person.

"In what I have done and what I have failed to do".

Brady failed all those children. He should be kicked out. He shouldn't be afforded the opportunity to resign.

He called on other bishops to resign. What a hypocrite.

Agree with this 100%.
Anyone with knowledge, clergy or otherwise, of this assault of innocent children and did not alert the authrorities should be treated as accomplices to the act and prosecuted as such.
I watehced the news last night and a thought that came to my head was that it was obvious he didnt have any children of his own. Jail is where he and those like him belong. They should suffer the way those children suffered then and will continue to suffer for the rest of their lives.

Let me get this right. Tyrone should be exempt to being caught giving dirty digs just because in a match in a lower division with no cameras some players may get away with it. I expect then Micky will also not be using video evidence to clear a player for say, the all Ireland final, cos there were no TV cameras at some backdoor game.

I suggest Mickey and the Tyrone Co board redirect their efforts to either..

- Tell their players to stop giving dirty digs
- Suggest that the GAA invest in cameras for all grounds and review all matches

Mickeys whinging is starting to sicken my hole.

just beat me to it there myles.....fair enough if tv footage it going to be used it should be used consistently. but that doesnt mean you shouldnt get punished for indiscretions that should warrant a red card when caught on camera.
If the evidence is there is should be used.
I have yet to hear mickey harte ever say when one of his players gets suspended or sent off that it was the right decision. Undoubtedly one of the best managers in the game but he seems to think his players never do wrong.
