GAA Discussion / Pre season training regimes
December 14, 2006, 12:27:06 AM
I mind reading about Padai O Se running from Ard a' Bhothair over An Clasach and round by Slea Head back home. Pete McGrath had our boys doing "The Big Stone", Boylan had the Meath lads doing the sand dunes, Val Kane used to torture us in "The Park".....has the sadism died out of pre season training.....it used to be that if you didnt puke it wasnt doing you any good...any thoughts??

GAA Discussion / Re: Greatest skill in football
December 13, 2006, 02:59:23 PM
QuoteTHe contenders would be high fielding, tackling or blocking, kicking off the ground.full spead solo running, kicking outside of the boot.

Maurice Fitz had them all + others....(maybe a bit weak on the tackle).....I cant think of anyone else who has the same range of skills.

My favourite for the record..... there's nothing to beat seeing someone field the ball above two or three others in the wee box.

GAA Discussion / Paddy Heaney of the irish news!
December 08, 2006, 12:06:54 PM
Best GAA columnist ever in the Irish News is Benny Tierney ;D

In fairness Heaney is pretty good....he's a football man and knows what he is talking about....and is usually quite entertaining.

....apart from the time however he said that no Newry teams had any county footballers whenever we had two players on the panel/playing :-\

GAA Discussion / Ulster Club Championships
December 05, 2006, 10:14:28 AM
I have to say that is some haul of gongs for the 3 boys and they can all add another AI Club by the looks of things.

Speaking of Burren I think P O'Rourke (remember him) had a similar number of medals with an All Ireland minor and U 21 as well.

GAA Discussion / Re: 20 Questions
December 04, 2006, 12:16:03 PM
1. Why your user name?
Denotes the number of times my native county have managed to win the big prize.
2. Favourite all time game?
Down V Meath 1991
3. Favourite all time player from your county?
Colm McAlarney
4. Favourite other poster on gaaboard.com?
I've a lot of time for Hardy and O'Neill has a warped sense of humour...there are several others who make good contributions and who make it worthwhile risking my job by being on here so much. However there's a lot of arseholes around as well.
5. Things you'd like to see change on the site.?
Admin to deal more forcefully with the aforementioned arseholes.
6. Player from another county you admire?
Mo Fitz in the recent past.....at present however despite his reputation Paul Galvin
7. Dual players. Should they be allowed do both (why/ why not)
Definitely should....I have great memories of players like Teddy McCarthy, Liam Currams, JBM etc performing at the highest level...let them at it.
8. Dublin Hurling, IS there hope? *question for dubs
Níl fhios agam.
9. Best Moment of the year?
Donaghy's goal V Armagh
10. Worst moment of the year?
Sligo.
11. Breasts or bum?
Both
12. Breaking ball or park live?
Breaking Ball was excellent
13. (Situation) Cork v Meath (if from Meath Cavan V Dublin) in an All-ireland final. You have to shout for one or your head will explode. What do you do? *question for dubs
14. DJ Or Eoin Kelly?
DJ
15. What  your own county needs to do to win Sam next year?
Find a new full back, centre half back, midfielder and 4 or 5 forwards.
16. How do you stop (legally, Meath lads) Kieran Donaghy?
If I knew that I would be worth  a few quid.....he looks unstoppable at the moment.
17. Hopes for 2007.
That we don't disgrace ourselves like we did last year...I know it sounds negative but that's the position we are in. One score from play in your last championship outing is disgraceful...good luck to Ross and DJ in tying to turn it round.
18. Who will win Sam in 2007.
Kerry again....maybe Tyrone if McGuigan gets fit.
19. Who will win Liam in 2007.
KK
20. Your Gaaboard resolution for 2007.
To keep ignoring ignorant bollixes who know nothing about football but still insist on coming on here and polluting the board with their shite.

Down / Down Club Hurling & Football
November 23, 2006, 10:30:30 AM
I think our boy will be up against it because the other two lads have won something this season...probably unfair but that's the way people think....however having watched him week in, week out for the past number of years in Division 1 and 2 there are very few forwards in Down club football that produce the goods as consistently as Murtagh.....I'm sure one of our colleague on here from the goalkeeping fraternity based near the Ards will back me up on this one :P

Listening to the all the oul ones (anyone over 50 that is) Seán O'Neill was the best ever in Ireland never mind Down so he possibly shouldnt be included in this poll. It would be like asking who is the greatest ever Northern Ireland Soccer player?

McAlarney is the best I ever saw with Mickey Linden a close 2nd.

Down / Down Club Hurling & Football
November 21, 2006, 10:13:52 AM
Quotefrig it!!!anyone would do.

I dont agree with you Brick Tamlin...anyone WON'T do. That is our problem at the minute...with every player at our disposal fit we still lack a Darragh Ó Sé/Paul McGrane/Eamonn O'Hara/Seán Cavanagh type player...we will go nowhere until a couple of players like that come through the ranks...I hope I'm wrong but we can't match other teams in the midfield third at the moment...maybe Ross has something up his sleeve :-\

Some horrific memories there GY.... :-[

That day in Casement was also the day that the Ulster Council in their wisdom sent the band out in a thunder and lightening storm at half time. Tubas, trombones, trumpets, the lot......they were lucky nobody was fried alive
