Quote from: PMG1 on October 10, 2023, 10:36:59 PMHas anyone been to the Castell Montgri campsite in Estartit

Yes, it's a top campsite. One of the best I've been to. Outdoor cinema. Only complaint was swimming pool (beside entertainment area) did not close until 11pm which meant your evenings were stretched keeping an eye on kids and curtailed drinking.
Sounds good, I see people complaining about it being too steep, won't worry me but my daughter will have our granddaughter with her who will only be 1, is it really that steep?

San Sebastián was heaven. The food, the people, the regatta,  Pilota final, 31st August festival, incredible.

Ducked to Bilbao for 2 days and saw them play Betis, atmosphere off the charts. Their Semana Grande was on and it was electric in the City. Did walking tours in both but San was a different level

Stayed the other 5 days in Uncle and Aunt's in San Sebastián, had originally intended to go to Biaritz but couldn't leave.

Uncle works for Real Sociedad, was texting Odegaard re he being in my Fantasy Team etc, my head was gone with it, bizarre! Every player who ever played there seems to fall in love with the place.
Fantastic, fantastic time

Would go back as often as I could, it's that good, but don't want to overstay!

May be heading there shortly for a brief stay. Anything to do in particular? What's the best way to see the city? Beaches nice?

it is quite steep to be fair, does get annoying after a few days if you are located well up the hill especially in the heat.. great bar at the top of the hill-  la bassa.. but a hike to get to

Interested in this too - we're going to Biarritz for a week at the end of the month, keen to check out San Sebastian but will have two kids (and a double buggy) in tow.

3 beaches along the front of the town, La Concha being the most famous. All class and La Perla Spa on the Promenade is worth a visit. We were in it for a few hours and had access to the beach and sea from it.

The town is easy to navigate by foot and the Old Town has cobbled streets full of wee bars and Pintxos...these tapas are to die for. You could Literally get lost in the old towns wee streets, heaven.

No English tourists and such a safe spot, not like say Barcelona or Milan where there's pickpockets watching your every move

Santa Clara island in the bay is worth a trip by boat and walk. Great walk of the 3 beadhes too

Weather was hit and miss...had 2 scorching days and the other 5 it bucketed on and off but we'd the right gear and umbrellas etc so were grand. Literally can teem down for 15 mins then be grand for a few hours.

Yeah been that area before and the weather can be changeable. Selling it to me rightly!

We have over last few year just been doing city breaks, 5 nights type thing. Will check this out for the summer

It was 2014 when I was in San Sebastian & had no kids back then but it's really lovely. I would definitely go back with the family now.
We went in August for 5 nights. Had 3 lovely days weather wise
 - one overcast and one a mixture of the two. The day we left it was lashing rain.
We are normally hotel pool people rather than beach but booked extremely last minute so accommodation choice was limited.
Went to La Concha beach instead every day which was really nice.
Food fab and plenty of shops for the wife to mooch about.
I'd really recommend it

We're planning on doing the Rosslare to Bilbao ferry next May. Hopefully spend about a month there. Have always wanted to see San Sebastian. AirBnBs are not cheap though!

great spot, the experience in those busy pintxos bars is something else.
drove a bit out of town and visited the dragonstone castle setting from game of thrones. tough pull on a hangover.

IMO Bilbao just as good as San Sebastián, minus the beaches, and a good bit cheaper. Probably a better place to base yourself if you want to see a bit more of the region.

Been quite a bit but I generally try to get a match in too so probably why I prefer it.

Was in San Sebastián in early August and thoroughly enjoyed it. The beaches, food and the old town are fantastic. For the small people there's a lovely little funfair at the top of Monte Igueldo. We went to Bilbao one day to go to the Guggenheim, a bit of a disappointment to be honest. We flew into Biarritz with Ryanair.
