Kileeshil and Emyvale meet in the Ulster JFC final this weekend, with just 10 miles separating both clubs.

Has there been a case of two teams from different counties meeting in a provincial/All-Ireland competition that were closer in proximity than these two clubs?

And what two teams would be the nearest to each other than could meet in such competitions?

From the top of my head, I thought of Ballinderry v Ardboe or Moortown, Moy v Collegeland, Aghaloo v Emyvale. But I'm sure there are closer clubs straddling county boundaries than that.

GAA Discussion / Cardinal O'Fiaich Cup

What's this all aboot then? I've never heard of it before. I assume it was played before, because it mentioned in the Irish News of its 'reprisal'. When was it last, or first, played?

Armagh, Down, Derry and Louth? Why those teams?

General discussion / Meanwhile, in the year 7013...
November 09, 2013, 02:00:08 PM
Just flicking through today's Irish News, and seen an article on "man-made climate change". I don't believe in any of that bollocks, but there was some bits that cheered me up...

"A bloated Lough Neagh would devour inland towns such as Craigavon, Lurgan, Portadown and Ballymena".

"The devastation would wipe out the entire population of towns including Portrush, Bangor...".

This all might take five thousand years, but even so. Some good news at last  ;D

General discussion / Flu jabs for children
November 04, 2013, 11:32:59 PM
Just wondered what people thought about these nasal spray flu jabs, that they're giving to the young kids in primary schools.

I don't have any kids meself, but I've told the siblings to make sure the youngsters don't feckin' go anywhere near them.

The man's a genius, and deserves his own thread. I reckon he's the best player in Ireland right now.

He put in a majestic performance against Australia, and in last weeks Donegal final by all accounts, just 24 hours after playing for Ireland in Cavan.

The man has everything. High fielding, can set up scores, great free taker, can play in a few positions, an accurate scorer, great strength and stamina.

He's one of the few players in the game that is worth paying in to see.

General discussion / Electricity top-up cards
October 25, 2013, 01:28:28 PM
I'm thinking of paying the electric through one of those top-up/swipe cards, rather than the usual quarterly bill. Thought it might be easier managed than getting a big bill every quarter.

Does anyone use the top-up card? Is it rate cheaper than paying a quarterly bill? Any info would be much appreciated.

Seen this in today's Irish News. A dog was named in the Ardboe minor squad, and wins a medal. Arent they breeding enough footballers down in Ardboe? Is this what it's come to? Will they be amalgamating with Moortown in a few years?

What's the ruling on this, by the way? Naming a dog on a team sheet?

General discussion / Saorview question
October 15, 2013, 08:28:18 PM
A friend of mine asked me if it's possible to pick up RTE using a Saorview box in London? Anyone know if it's possible? And if not, how could they manage to get RTE over there?

I was just thinking about Fermanagh's big chance in 2004 to reach a first All Ireland final. And it got me thinking about All Ireland finals that nearly happened, if one (or two) losing semi finalist had actually won.

What would have been the most unusual AI final pairing?

Here are a few I thought of...

1992 - Donegal v Clare
1994 - Down v Leitrim
1997 - Cavan v Offaly
2004 - Fermanagh v Derry

Heard absolutely nothing yet about the squad. Anyone know who's been involved?

Are there still plenty of tickets left?

Anyone heading to Caaaavan?

General discussion / Facebook question
August 14, 2013, 02:55:53 PM
Trying to set up a Bookface business page for someone, but I only get so far. I'm presuming they firstly need a personal FB page, before they can set up their business page?

Can anyone confirm?

General discussion / From The North to Dublin - by bus
August 11, 2013, 10:58:22 PM
Anyone know roughly how much it costs to go from The North (Armagh, Dungannon or Portadown or somewhere like that) to Dublin, by Bus Eireann/Ulsterbus? Thanks.

General discussion / Magherafelt Leisure Centre
May 30, 2013, 10:20:09 PM
Read the story in today's Irish News. Young kids being photographed before using the swimming pool. Had to supply their names and mobile phone numbers, for "Health & Safety purposes".

Is this the way things are going?

I wouldn't set foot in the place, nor in any leisure centre with these unisex changing rooms.

General discussion / Royal Victoria Hospital
May 27, 2013, 10:48:13 PM
How handy is it to get to the Royal Victoria Hospital by train? Is it much of a walk from Great Victoria Street or a nearby station? And anyone know roughly the taxi fare (or bus) for the same?

OK, this is just a bit of craic.

I've maintained since his appointment that I don't think he's the right man for the job. A nice guy, decent manager, but the United job is just too much for him I feel. I hope he can prove me wrong though.

Anyway, that's my opinion, but what do the rest of you think? How high in the Premier League do you think Moyes can take United to in his first season? Can he win the title? Runners-up? Claim a top four spot? Or outside the top four?

General discussion / Who the feck is Bressie?
April 29, 2013, 01:35:23 PM
Seriously, who the feck is he?!

I keep hearing about him (usually when Mullingar is mentioned) so I assume he's famous for something. But, what?!

Who's your money on for Sam? I'm going to say Donegal again.

My heart says New York to take Connacht, but my head says Mayo.

It's hard to look past Dublin for Leinster again.
