General discussion / Big feckin' spiders!!
October 01, 2014, 07:57:55 PM
I've found spiders in the house this last couple of months, that are far bigger than what I've seen before. I'd say the leg span is a good 5-6 inches. Now I don't mind the wee normal spiders we get here, but I don't like the look of these bollixes.

Apparently they're harmless, but that's not the point.

Has anyone else noticed them, and why the hell are they so feckin' big?!

I don't think we have a thread where rules can be discussed and clarified, so here's one now.

I have a couple of rules myself I need clearing up...

- What's the situation regarding extra time? As far as I'm aware, a team down to 13 or 14 players, will have a full team for extra time. Are the players added to the 15 for ET, counted as part of their sub allocation?

Also, teams that have used their allocation of subs in normal time, how many extra subs do they get in ET?

- is a player allowed to fist the ball to himself? I noticed it happened in the Kerry Mayo replay. I didn't think this was allowed.

General discussion / Camping
June 04, 2014, 03:28:13 PM
Haven't done much of it before, but thinking of heading down to Kerry over the summer. Not too sure what to expect though. Wondering if anyone has any tips on the following...

- how far ahead would you need to book your spot on the campsite?
- would your tent be safe if you went off travelling during the day?
- roughly how much would it cost per night, for two people?

Not an experienced camper, but any tips on type of tent, equipment needed, facilities usually available, do's and dont's etc, would be really helpful.

Can anyone advise on buying one?

It's for home use, so a folding machine would probably be best. Just not sure what specifics to look for when looking for one. I would like a distance/clock screen, but I don't want to go mad. But don't want some cheap piece of rubbish either. Budget is up to £200. Any advice?

Anyone know the exact routes of the three stages, or where I could find them?

Which of the well-known cyclists are taking part?

Who's your money on for Sam?

I really hope I'm wrong, but I'll go for Dublin.

Ulster is always very competitive, with probably 5 or 6 contenders. Who's your money on?

It pains me to say, but I reckon it's a Tyrone Derry final, with Tyrone winning.

Planning a weekend in Galway for this match, but just realised the Galway Down match yesterday was played in Tuam. Was that a late change or what? Will the Galway Armagh match be played there or in Salthill?

Thought I'd look ahead to this match, following the disappointment of the Down game.

What's the story regarding injuries? Will Brendan Donaghy or Aaron Kernan be back for this one?

What's the story regarding the football semi finals? Have no squads been announced yet?

More controversy regarding Facebook recently.

Just wondering how many folk here are on it. I'm probably the only one I know (of my age group anyway), that's not on it. I've never been on it, and don't intend to be.

What's your story?

Where is the ground exactly? Not been there before.

What's this about cheaper pre-purchased NFL tickets being cheaper than paying at the turnstiles? Will pre-purchasing of tickets be required for Drogheda? I hear its a small enough venue.

Antrim and Wicklow. Wicklow to win final.
#75
It could be anyone here.

I'll say Cavan and Roscommon. Cavan to win the final.

Who will go up from Division 2?

I think a Donegal Monaghan final, with Donegal to edge it.
#77
Who's your money on?

I'll go for Mayo.

General discussion / Broadband usage question
December 29, 2013, 01:18:53 PM
I've been keeping an eye on my broadband usage because I have a limit per month. Up until 27 Dec I had used about 23/24 GB, then suddenly within a day my usage had doubled.

I've no idea how this could be. I haven't done anything different within the last couple of days out of the ordinary. Maybe watched about an hour or so of videos, and general browsing/twitter/email etc. The only thing I can think I did differently was I downloaded an App for a radio station, and listened back to a previous show (maybe for 1.5 hours).

But I can't figure out how I could have used the same in about one day than I had only used all month of December. What would use up 23/24 GB in a day? Surely not that?!

GAA Discussion / Benny Tierney's Irish News column
December 12, 2013, 12:11:46 PM
I meant to start this ages ago. Benny's Irish News column has me in stitches every Wednesday.

His column yesterday about the Mullaghbawn lads in London, especially the incident at a McDonald's drive-thru was brilliant.

The wife and the mother in law usually get plenty of stick too. As does Peter Canavan on a regular basis. Definitely worth a read.

General discussion / Jon Daly (Rangers)

From Dublin, playing for Rangers/Rangers FC, AFC Rangers, I-can't-believe-it's-not-Rangers, or whatever name they're going by these days.

I'd say it doesn't go down too well in Ireland. What if he was called up for the Ireland squad? That could be fun.

Anyway, what's the story here? Was it his boyhood dream to play for Rangers?
