Ok, trying to get into holiday mode and thought I'd see if there's anything in Ireland I could/need/should do or experience.

I've done a few things on my list in recent years (climbed Croagh Patrick, visited Dun Aonghusa on Inishmore, seen Fungi in Dingle etc).

What would you recommend seeing/experiencing in Ireland at least once in your life?

Glenswilly stuffed St Eunan's 0-3 to 0-2 yesterday in the Donegal league. Only one point scored in the second half. Has there ever been a lower scoring match?

GAA Discussion / Davy Fitzgerald

I see Davy underwent minor heart surgery. Hope all went well for him and he's back soon. Can't imagine him being on the sidelines can be good for him though.

General discussion / Lough Derg Pilgrimage
May 08, 2016, 10:20:36 PM
Got into a conversation over the weekend about doing the Lough Derg pilgrimage in Donegal. My first reaction was balls to that, as I'm not exactly the most religious catholic in the country and running around in my bare feet doesn't sound like my idea of a good time. But later I thought maybe it might be something to consider. One of those things to experience and to say you've done that. Maybe just the one day thing though.

Just wondered if anyone has done it, and would like to share their experience.

General discussion / Recycling Mobile Phones
April 28, 2016, 07:16:31 PM
Is there any places that will take your old mobiles for recycling? And preferably pay me for the privilege?

Have a few in the second drawer in the kitchen (where else?) that need shifting.

Just watched a recording of this.

Yer Louth man interviewed in the red tie made a bit of a tit of himself.

Interesting to hear about the atmosphere in the Meath dressing room afterwards.

What's this all about?

The GAA is suppose to be a non-political organisation, or have they forgotten? Another stick the unionists will have to beat them with.

What about Tyrone fans? Won't they feel like gatecrashers to the party.

Well, what's the craic with this match?

General discussion / Home Heating Oil Clubs
October 28, 2015, 06:30:29 PM
Apparently there's a few of these on the go, allowing villages/estates to club together their heating oil orders to save money by buying in bulk.

Anyone participate in one of these clubs, and have any tips about setting one up, running it etc?

It ain't what it used to be. Far from it.

General discussion / Metal Detectoring
October 20, 2015, 01:03:42 PM
Have always meant to give this a go, but never got around to it.

Recently watched a great wee series about it featuring Mackenzie Crook (Gareth from The Office), and it's given me a dig (no pun intended) to find out more.

Does anyone have any experience of metal detectoring? Also, do you know where is best to buy/hire a detector, which type is best, prices, rules/regulations, clubs etc?

Anyone have any? Here's a few to start off...

Liam McHale Park, Castlebar
Finn MacCumhail Park, Ballybofey
Dr Jekyll & Hyde Park

Tom Brewster's Millions
Michael Murphy's Law
Colin Holmes Under The Hammer

Joe Cassells In The Air

Without trying to look like T Fearon...

Has the National League gone past it's sell by date?

All I hear is teams treating matches, finals included, like a training session. Ah sure we'll see what happens, it'll be a good preparation for the championship, we'll be aiming for a decent performance... These sort of statements. Yes I know championship is more important but most teams are going into the NFL half-arsed. It's disrespectful to fans who pay good money to follow their team. This last few seasons, half-arsed talk, and I keep thinking, well why the feck am I going to these matches?!

Half a dozen teams capable of winning Sam, maybe less, and most won't get into a asses roar of Sam. Yet they take the league lightly, when they haven't won a trophy in 100 years. The recent winners celebrate like they just won a charity match.

Time to scrap it and incorporate league within the c'ship I think.

GAA Discussion / Whatever happened to...

What became of Billy O'Shea? Never heard of him after that leg break in the AI in 97.

Dermot Washington, nippy forward on Roscommon minor team in 92. Remember seeing him in semi v Armagh.

Philip Clifford. He seemed to go off the county scene very young.

General discussion / Red Bull and Energy drinks
March 28, 2015, 09:39:58 PM
Was out on the bike last week. In one quarter of a mile stretch I counted over 50 empty cans and bottles by the roadside. That was just one side. Mainly red bull. Nearest shop 3 miles away. Litter louts, yes. But surely there's a bigger issue here.

The amount of young lads in particular I see buying and drinking the stuff is unbelievable. Surely it can't be helping their behaviours, attention, sleep patterns, teeth and overall well being.

Even ordinary coke or fanta don't seem to sell anywhere near the amount. They aren't good either, but not as bad as Red Bull and the likes, I'd imagine.

General discussion / Social media intrusion/humiliation
November 29, 2014, 12:17:09 PM
I've seen many photographs and videos posted on Facebook (other peoples. I'm not on it), mainly everyday things from man falls asleep drunk on the couch, young lad sitting watching TV. I've even seen videos of people dancing at a wedding and a man sitting at a quiet bar singing a song (no, not John Delaney).

Most of the time the people in the photo/video are unaware it's being recorded never mind posted all over the net. Look at the woman parking in Belfast, bloody humiliated, but looked upon as a great laugh. Or the woman in Derry, lying in the street. Any normal person would go and assist her, but no, let's video her from across the road.

What the f**k is wrong with people? Why do they feel the need to record things like this, humiliating people for the world to see?! It's only going to get worse with these Google glasses. By all accounts, people at this kind of thing are getting younger all the time and it's only going to increase. Immature child with a smart phone out to impress his/her mates.
