Well folks, the championship is just around the corner. Who's your money on this year for the Ulster title?

I think the winners will come from the Donegal v Tyrone game. It's a tough call but I'm going to tip Donegal just to shade it, and take Ulster again.

General discussion / El Camino De Santiago
April 24, 2013, 07:22:42 PM
I've heard quite a lot lately about the pilgrimage trail in Northern Spain, the 'El Camino De Santiago' (or the way of St James).

I recently watched the film 'The Way' (starring Martin Sheen, Emilio Estevez and James Nesbitt), and then happened to see a TG4 series, following a RnaG presenter Ronan from Donegal, who also walked the Camino. I've heard it on the radio, and seen in numerous newspapers and magazines too.

I've noticed there's a few walking trails now in Ireland as well. Most notably, the one from Westport to Achill Island.

I'm not sure I could ever do the Camino (approx 500 miles), but I would think about walking the shorter trails.

In the film, Martin Sheen is a 60-something year old, who is obviously not a keen walker, but literally flies through the 500 mile trail, So, I don't think it's as easy as just turning up with no training done beforehand. It does seem very tough.

I'm wondering if anyone has ever walked the Camino, or something similar? I'd like to hear about your experiences, or of people you know that may have walked it (or something similar).

General discussion / MRI scan
March 03, 2013, 04:42:09 PM
I'm due to go for a MRI scan in a few days. I had one before, and found it very claustrophobic, and just about got through it. I need two this time, so I'll be in there for around 40 minutes. Not looking forward to it one bit.

I spoke to my GP and he's prescribed me Diazepam (5mg) to take, if needed. Never took Diazepam before, so not sure how it will affect or help me.

Anyone got any advice or experience of Diazepam in a situation like this? Any help would be really appreciated.

General discussion / Ronan O'Gara snubs Liz Windsor?
February 12, 2013, 12:45:59 PM
Just been reading this weeks Gaelic Life, and a piece about Ronan O'Gara snubbing a handshake from Queen Liz herself.

Generally, I ignore anything related to rugby or the royals. Can anyone shed light on this story?

General discussion / Anchorman
February 06, 2013, 11:34:52 PM
For years I avoided watching this film. But I've heard so many people over the years talk about the funny scenes or lines from this film. So lately, I sat down to watch it.

After about 45 minutes, I could take no more, and switched it off.

I'm not a fan of Will Ferrell. Actually he gives me the creeps (it's the eyes). But he wasn't the reason I turned it off. I just didn't find it funny. Not one bit of it.

Yer man Paul Rudd was on Graham Norton lately, and he said they're making Anchorman 2. Oh dear God, no, I thought.

I'm not one for stopping films half way through. Even if a film is really bad, I'll stick it out until the end. But I honestly could take no more of this one.

So, who loves it, and who hates it? Is it just me that could take no more halfway through?

General discussion / iPhone Button
February 01, 2013, 06:45:43 PM
I have an iPhone just over a year, but I've noticed the button is started to stick. From what I've heard, the button tends to give up after a while, rendering the phone basically useless.

But I'd heard something about a Button App you can download, which you use instead of the main iPhone button. Anyone know anything about this?

What are your thoughts on the next International Rules series coming to Ulster? According to yesterdays Irish News, four venues are being considered, with Breffni Park looking the favourite to host the first test in October.

Which venue would you like to see host it? And why?

Hoping to head down to the match next weekend. Mustn't forget to bring my Union Fleg  ;D

Anyway, what's to do in Portlaoise? And how often is there a train to and from Dublin?

It could be anyone here.

I'll go for Limerick.

Anyone know a place in Portadown/Craigavon area that will do a car wash for MOT? Preferably somewhere near to Craigavon MOT centre.

General discussion / The Waterfront Hall
December 27, 2012, 05:26:55 PM
I'm heading to the Waterfront Hall in the new year for a show. I usually drive down, but thought of taking the train down this time, getting off at Central station.

Not entirely sure how far the two places are apart, but it seems quite near on google maps. Does anyone know how long it would take to walk from Central station to the Waterfront?

General discussion / Car stereos
December 20, 2012, 07:42:18 PM
I'm looking at a new CD/Radio for the car. I see there's ones available where you can plug in a Memory Stick and play music.

Does anyone have any experience of these types? I dont have an iPod, nor intend to have one. The Memory Stick seems handy, but wondered if it was worth getting?

General discussion / Rugby - what's the attraction?
October 11, 2012, 12:24:09 AM
I'm starting this thread as it has always baffled me why anyone would like the game of Rugby. Yes, I know, each to their own and all that. But seriously, what's the attraction?

I'm a Gaelic football man. Great to play, great to watch. Now, I know alot has been said about the recent negative tactics, and the game has suffered as a spectacle. Maybe it has. Maybe it hasn't. But, you have great catches, great scores, skill, block-downs, keepers plucking the ball out of the top corner, a lung-bursting solo run, scores from narrow angles, the outside of the boot. You get the idea...

Hurlings a great game too: fantastic speed, skill, guts, passion, scores, sideline cuts, great stick-work etc etc. Even soccer has it's moments. Great goals, skill, passes, saves etc.

Now, Rugby... erm, nope, I can't think of anything good or interesting about it. It lacks any fluidity, too stop/start, throwing the ball (who thought that one up?). I don't get it. I really don't. They look like a bunch of rutting stags during the season, charging into each other, throwing a ball backwards to go forwards. A set of goalposts but you can score in the corner. Seriously, if an Irishman had invented the game, he'd have been considered a loon.

It seems reasonably popular in this country. A dozen or two people seem to like it. Personally, I'd draw the curtains if there was a match playing outside.

So, can some people please tell me their own reasons for liking the game, because frankly I'm bemused.

General discussion / Galway airport

Has Galway airport closed for commercial flights? I can't find any flight info on their website.

I can't recall the first football match I attended, but I do recall the first hurling match I went to.

It was in the Athletic Grounds in Armagh, with Antrim playing Offaly. I was under the impression for a long time that it was an AI semi final. But it was probably a NHL semi. The only thing I remember was that one of the Troy's were in goal for Offaly, and that it was maybe a replayed match.

I think this was probably about 1985 or 1986. Can anyone confirm?

General discussion / iTunes / iPhone trouble
September 09, 2012, 02:00:09 AM
I created an iTunes account on my laptop a few months ago. Then the laptop died. I continued to use my iPhone in the meantime, and downloaded a dozen or two apps.

Now I've just bought a new laptop, and plugged my iPhone into the new iTunes (just to test it, I didn't do anything). When I took out my iPhone again, none of my apps are working. I'm afraid to do anything in case I wipe everything off the iPhone (photos, videos, apps etc).

Any advice?

General discussion / Video Recorders
July 18, 2012, 10:14:17 AM
I assume when the digital switchover happens in October, video recorders will become useless? Well, as far as recording goes anyway. Or can digital channels be recorded on video tape?
