Don't think Mayo will beat Donegal this weekend, Donegal are flying at the moment and as someone said they have already beaten Armagh this year.

Yes Doherty played against Cork, didn't really get into the game, but a great prospect with a few games under his jersey.

We didn't get a proper look at him last year due to the injury, but is his form against Down or Derry more typical?

He's an excellent free taker, but will that be enough to earn him his place, with Devenney and McFadden back on the scene?

Obviously I'd love to see it, but Donegal leading in the pole, coming out of the same side of the draw as Armagh and Tyrone?!!

We're well capable of raising our game to beat one of them, but I'm not convinced we can reach the level needed to beat both.

As a man u fan it is embarrassing to watch the amount of times he dives. It really is indefensible.

He takes an odd dive - so what. If it bothers you that much you should stop watching soccer because most players dive. Don't single out Ronaldo because he's high profile and a "its part of their culture" continental European. For example Damian Duff is cat altogether - do you hope he gets his soon as well? Ronaldo is I think the second most fouled player in the Premiership. This is largely for two reasons - (1) his workrate - he's on the ball a serious amount of time and (2) he is often double teamed so one guy might be doing ok but the other fouls him. Obviously on top of this he is a very good player who runs at people which scares them to death.

Diving is an accepted part of the game in soccer. If it wasn't FIFA/UEFA etc would deal with it. It's the same as timewasting/feigning injury (diving probably on the way) in the GAA.

That is bullshit in my opinion. Diving is not a part of the game and should be condoned whenever and whereever it occurs.

I can think of at least three occasions this season when golden boy won a penalty from diving.

I think Seanie has a point in that the authorities are giving their implicit consent by not punishing offenders afterwards. If someone can be shown to have dived to win a penalty or a free that resulted in an unjust sending off or a decisive goal, there should be serious consequences.

For the first time this season, I think Utd are now capable of winning this league. Never really took them seriously til now.

The only way I can't see them doing it now is if they lose at Anfield and Stamford Bridge. They're well capable of taking at least a point at both and I think they probably will. Barring losing a few of the likes of Ronaldo, Rooney and Scholes to extended injuries, I can't see United throwing it away.

RTE, in general, are far, far quicker to update matches and scores involving Dublin teams, whether in GAA or soccer, than provincial teams. If Dublin had been playing today, their scores would have been up a lot sooner than the scores for the games that were actually played today. Monitor the situation over the coming months for yourself, if you don't believe it.

Was looking at Aertel today for latest scores on the GAA games and it seems to me to be the most diabolical service out there. Now maybe I am wrong but is the GAA not the most watched sport in Ireland?? So how come Aertel can provide updates on time from Div 3 soccer matches in England while 1 hour after todays games still no score in the Sligo v Tipp, Mayo v Kerry, Laois v Westmeath and Louth v Down. In fact, according to Aertel no game had a score for the first half at all. For Christ sake, all they had to do was flick over to TG4 for the score in the Mayo match. I think I will withold my license fee until this is rectified.

Dublin played yesterday. Anything after that is low priority.

Fair enough but I didn't realise that we had actual quarter finals in the GAA calender.  Perhaps you could forward these details to me from GAC where they are known as All Ireland quarter finals.

From the GAA website:

Bank of Ireland Football Championship Qualifier Structure

Round 1 - This Round shall include all the counties that do not qualify for the Provincial Semi-Finals. An Open Draw shall be made to give eight pairings.

Round 2 - Each of the eight defeated teams in the Provincial Semi-Finals shall play against the eight winners from Round 1. A draw shall be made to determine the eight pairings.

Round 3 - The eight winners from Round 2 shall participate in this Round. An Open draw shall be made to determine the four pairings.

Round 4 - Each of the four teams defeated in the Provincial Finals shall play against the four winners from Round 3. A draw shall be made to determine the four pairings.

All Ireland Quarter-Finals: Each of the four Provincial Champions shall play one of the four winners from Round 4. A draw shall be made to determine the four pairings.

All Ireland Semi-Finals: The All Ireland Semi-Finals shall be on a Provincial rots basis, initially determined by the Central Council. If a Provincial Championship winning team is defeated in its Quarter-Final, the team that defeats it shall take its place in the Semi-Final.

Fowler did the business for Liverpool in the run-in last season, getting a few vital goals at a time when Liverpool were struggling with the likes of Morientes and Ciise. While he may be surplus to requirements at this stage, he's still scored a goal for every three appearances this season, which is not bad given that most of them have come in the form of late substitute appearances.

An unexpected two points and a great start to the league. Maybe we can avoid the drop this time around! How long will Devenney be out for?
