No need for the leagues to be finished putting everything into perspective.

Got a good run at it and the main events bar replayed hurling final are done.

Quit while you're head.

None of the intermediate or junior hurling championship games have even started yet. I know most of this county don't give a stuff but if the pin is pulled now that's going to be harsh on those players. Not to start until 11th October.

Utd are a big club with loads of money. But the biggest problem is Solskjaer. He is not going to attract a good quality of player. He appears like a Manager who got the job from a Lucky Bag!

I'm not saying that Solskjaer is the man to bring the success back to Utd but as far as transfers in goes, attracting players doesn't seem to be the issue. The word is that Sancho wanted to come last season and still wants to come but between Dortmund wanting too much or Woodward/Glazers not wanting to pay the fee it has dragged on. I think most of the targets they have moved for, especially post the Sanchez mess, have wanted to move to the club. I think not agreeing to the buy back clause was the right thing on the Spurs signing and I don't think Bale would have been the best move for everyone involved. But that should have been accepted and someone else signed before the league started last week. It's this constant bullshit stand off for every signing that is causing problems. I can see their point at times with fees being inflated but when you tell the world your the biggest that's what happens. Just pay the fee and get the players in the manager wants or forget about ever challenging again.

Need a petrol strimmer. For grass, weeds, briars mainly.

Any recommendations?

I've used Parker Brand and it's been a good yoke, reasonably priced and isn't bothered with the heavier stuff. Brother has had one for a while too and no issues. The website has all the spare parts you could need too. It's down in price since I bought it too! Stihl for bend arm and no strap is about 180 in comparison.

The CPA have no power and no real members who are prepared to follow a strike if one is called.

Agreed. But they can still provide some thought leadership, and help people understand that it will not destroy a club to fulfil league fixtures without county players.

There's only 52 weeks a year. If we are lucky there's at most 40 of those are suited to countrywide GAA activities. Anyone who demands county players must be available for all club games is basically demanding those elite players do it for 40 weeks in a row, while jumping chameleon like between skill levels, fitness levels and tactical approaches. Meanwhile, the 98% might as well take 40 weeks a year off. Or worse still, train for 40 weeks to play 12. It's f**king insane.

The problem is that in most counties they've been doing it the wrong way for so long they can't see the way out of it. In Down we're used to it now and everyone gets on with it. It's not a perfect system and the county still get involved at times when they shouldn't but it's as good as you would expect. As a player it was always fairly good and you got regular football as a senior player.

Is Lingard not on crazy money tho? Ie he'd get nowhere near it if he did move..

His contract is up next summer, that should be the main concern for him and his agent. Especially as his next deal will likely be the last big one of his career.

He either goes and gets that next contract now, or he does so after another 12 months of benchwarming. I'd be jumping now, the way things have been shaping up for him.

Why would you leave now on 100k a week for another 12 months. If he leaves next year, at 28, English and as a free agent? He's going to get at least 150k a week somewhere else or alternatively a big lump sum sign on to keep the wage down.

The only reason for him to move right now is if he harbours any England ambitions.

150k?! You could be his agent with spin like that.

He got £100k a week from Man Utd when he was a 24 year old international regular on an upward career trajectory.

His actual agent will be a miracle worker to get a better contract from Crystal Palace or Villa for a 28 year old ex-international who has spent the previous two seasons benchwarming (in between absolutely dreadful cameo appearances). That's not even to mention Lingard's well publicised off the field issues, and the financial reality of the post COVID football world.

The further we get from his career peak of 2018, the lower the value of Lingard's next contract. If I were him I'd be trying to nail down a three or four year gig somewhere else as soon as possible.

His actual agent is Riola so god knows

Of the 1990 squad, Kevin Sheedy (1987), Steve Staunton (1990), Ray Houghton (1990), Ronnie Whelan (1990), John Aldridge (1988), David O'Leary (1989) all won English First Division medals around that time (Whelan was in the squad). McGrath arguably better than any of those and several other top flight players. It was a really good squad.

I think in hindsight the criticism of the style of play was a little overstated. Dunphy's outburst during the Egypt game, though mostly valid, was motivated by other things as he subsequently acknowledged. I think we should have been able to adapt a bit once/if we went behind. Not bringing Brady was not right in my opinion but overall he got a lot right.
In Jacks book he talked about his first game having 6 top flight centre halves available - Moran, McGrath, O'Leary, McCarthy & Lawrenson are the ones I can think of. Not sure if McCarthy was top flight though.

I think he tried to make a system that used the players he had, rightly or wrongly. It didn't work in 94 because he hadn't got the target man and the back pass rule was changed. They had some excellent players at both tournaments to be fair.

It seems Cul Camps are going ahead this year then - strange considering the 2m rule is applied in all other leisure activities for the foreseeable future
I see our neighbours in Leitrim not doing them this year.
Down aren't doing them either
