Preparation is needed now. Despite what I personally thought was a disappointing election for nationalism as a whole it still got overall 42% to Unionists 42.5%. A poll really isn't that far away on those figures. I have read several times about the disillusioned unionist vote going to Alliance which is horse shit when we look at Alliances transfers which heavily favoured nationalist parties. It's a security blanket that doesn't exist. A bit like the thousands of garden centre prods that don't vote but will save the union in a referendum- the big problem being they also don't actually exist.

Only thing is people's 'transfer' won't be used in a border poll.

The Alliance will have to commit - one way or the other.

I am wondering though will Alliance have to commit?  Could they just take the stance of agreeing to support the outcome either way based on the will of the people, and sit on the fence?

I'm managing an extension atm and it's hard work TBH, the Contractor is yapping daily about prices of materials and he's doing my head in. We know the price of the materials but it's out of our control. If i was planning a build atm I would def be holding off as there is no way this is going to continue like this and I believe there is recession coming which will soon tumble the price of everything...of course that's just my opinion and I may be wrong.

On a separate note...why do people build these mansion of houses when doing a self build and have 1-2 kids and sure it's only a short time down the road when they're gone to Uni etc or married etc and the two of you are in this massive house, why build them so big?.

Would agree with you on this front. Is it a case of keeping up with the Jones'?  Granted with covid and a lot of now hybrid WFH type jobs, an extra bedroom is good for an office space, but as you say a lot of these houses are mansions for the general family size now. 

Although maybe with the price of houses and building now, the children might be living at home for a lot longer!

I don't buy into the narrative of SDLP voters lending their votes to SF just to topple the DUP.  More chance of SDLP voters choosing to vote Alliance.

As for the TV debates, it doesn't matter how shiny and impressive Eastwood was when it comes to the ballot. He'll be trying his best to play it down, but it's a huge blow for the SDLP and no more than they deserve.

Explain it like im 5

List your preferences down in order, but you don't necessarily have to give the DUP or TUV a preference at all - unless you have a major preference of one of the parties over the other.

Was there a brawl in the Bellaghy Magherafelt game?  Also heard that Bellaghy had a row with Ardboe in a challenge game recently.  Cassidy maybe trying to bring a bit of the fear factor back to the Tones.

Are reports true of more "friendly" exchanges in the Bellaghy Ballinderry game at the weekend??

I see Arlene having a dig at Jim Wells today after his resignation and support of the TUV candidate.  Basically confirming what everybody already knew, but only when he leaves the party. There are plenty like him still in the DUP.

What did McKinless do to get the red card?

I think the game was very much beyond us at that point, but would have been interesting to see how a Derry goal would have affected proceedings. There was a bit of life in the crowd after a few of the excellent long range scores when Galway were down to 13 men.  I thought we actually threatened more of a goal chance in the first half, but couldn't get the final pass or support runner.

My wife has a big birthday coming up in November next year and I’m looking into going somewhere nice for two weeks outside of Europe somewhere.
It will be the 2 of us plus two daughters 4 and 6. Have not decided at all where to go yet but Thailand is one place we’re considering.
Thinking more along the lines of doing one week in each of two islands - don’t want to change accommodation more than that with two young kids.
Also don’t want to spend any nights in Bangkok.
Anyone got any recommendations as to good areas to go or any particular resort/hotel recommendations?
We would either go in November or wait until the following January/February.
Cheers for any advice.
Mexico also a runner.

Check out Moon Palace in Cancun - should be plenty there for both adults and children. Also the option for day trips to different tourist attractions or activities.

It is all blown out of all proportion. There is no big bounce just a vocal minority who for whatever reason are getting very unbalanced airtime. It suits the tories as a stick to beat the eu with and they couldn’t give one damn about peace here.

You see these stats about the cost of the protocol and the stats are simply nonsense. The baseline of the protocol costs are there was a brexit already in place so your only differentiator is the protocol. Brexit is costing a fortune and obviously it came in at the same time as the protocol so there has been no separation between brexit costs and protocol costs. It is all disingenuous nonsense being spouted here.

It’s all about a hard border and that’s it. Nothing more and nothing less.

Totally agree that it's blown out of all proportion. It's hard to tell though if the DUP know that OR if, and I suspect this to be the case, they are the people blowing it out of all proportion for their own political end.
The fear of serving under a SF first minister and the fear of a UI vote even has them making rash decisions that stink of desperation and bigotry.

Am I right in thinking even Doug Beattie was ducking that question today?  You'd hope personally he wouldn't have an issue with it, but obviously knows it's a vote loser to admit that the UUP would fall in line - especially if they hope to entice voters from the DUP.

I think SF may have missed a trick jumping in and supporting an early election.  5 May was already in the diary and DUP want an early election.  SF should have left them on their own.  It would have flushed out Brandon Lewis once again if he moved the election forward.  And if there’s no movement on Brexit come April then Jeffrey would be looking more powerless every day.  Instead he gets to talk big and the outcome won’t be known until later.

I think if an early election occurs then the DUP will get a bit of a bounce vote from the anti-protocol electorate. But if we've to wait until May, then the impact of them pulling down the executive will be more keenly felt and the voters will have forgotten all about this week.

I wouldn't really buy into this narrative, as when I think of the anti-protocol electorate, who exactly are they? They are the same knuckle draggers who wouldn't be able to tell you what the protocol is about and are blinded by Bryson, Allister and Hoey etc.

I don't think SF believe there will be an early election either, it's gesturing and more a case of calling the DUPs bluff. 

You see the likes of Gordon Lyons interviewed yesterday - you'd like to think they know deep down that what they are saying is a complete load of crap. Simon Hamilton (ex-DUP) coming out publicly questioning the move now, whereas you know ritely he would have been in the same position as Lyons had he not left the party.

Did Gareth Gordon not say towards the end of The View last night that it wasn't completely confirmed yet. Something to do with having to go to the relevant committees in south Down for approval.

Could be (and hopefully will be!) and messy one yet, if the local electorate back Wells.

Ozark season 4 is coming Next week on Netflix. Highly recommend anyone who hasn't watched to get involved from the start. Just finished Dopesick on star. But jumpy back and forth for me but what a story of Big Pharm and the drug Oxycontin. You will understand Americas suspicion of Big pharma is not unfounded after watching this.

Didn't realise Ozark is out next week, another great show.

Dark Waters another film with Mark Ruffalo shining a light on on the rotten nature of big pharma.
