What do you make of the 200 Northern signatories to the letter to Leo Varadkar asking him to stand up for the rights of Irish Citizens in the North? I am totally confused I have to say.

I thought Sinn Fein were more than capable of lobbying on behalf of Northern nationalists, uniquely with members elected to Stormont,The Dail and Westminster.

Secondly there is a portion in the letter referring to the denial of "human rights" here which are "enjoyed" in all other parts of these islands. This is an obvious reference to allowing gay marriage and relaxing strict abortion legislation,in the North.Does this mean the two prominent priests that have signed this letter,Fr Joe Mc Veigh and Fr Gary Donegal support the introduction of gay marriage and a relaxation of abortion laws here???

Oh, I thought this was about bikes.

So did I.  Leo is an elected member of a Government or  a governing maybe?

All parts of these uplands presumably includes the 26 Cos which  limits abortion too.
So it seems it's same sex marriage they refer to.
Nothing wrong with 2 priests supporting civil rights.
And before you say sex between people of the same sex is immoral - that would be going on marriage or no marriage.

Last time I checked catholic teaching regards homosexuality as sinful, and the Church opposes gay marriage and any amendment to current abortion legislation as it applies in the North

Orior

This was the best piece of news that I have heard in years. Finally, the Dublin government are going to stand up and look after the rights of northern nationalists who have been annexed in the occupied six.

Leo's acknowledgment is at the very least comforting, considering the remarks of certain west brits on this here message board.

Civil marriage laws are Ceaser's business.
Gay people have sex married or not - so the Church can preach against homosexual sex -as opposed to homosexuality which is a natural situation as some people are that way by nature.
If we're all created by God -then He must be happy to have some people homosexual.
Never came across Jesus saying anything against homosexuality  or homosexuals in the Gospels.

PS-- Does calling them the "North east 200" mean you've  given up on "northernirishness"?😆

I think the events of the last fortnight have shaken things up enough that his WUMming would be too obvious to keep going down that track for the time being.

It's always been obvious.

Not too sure what to make of this. Who compiled the list? What's the criteria? What's the point? How many GAAboarders? How many signatories does Tony have a selfie with?

None of the signees are doing too badly .

They could better channel their energies to homelessness ,  health service , unemployment and other social ills

So that means they shouldn't care about identity, equality etc?  Quite a few of them provide significant employment in the north.

Relax folks.

Malachi Cush & Danny Hughes have got this.
