Stew do you subcribe to the ridiculous beliefs of all the protestant cults (and I make no distinction between any one of them) that contend that simple faith in Jesus alone (regardless of deeds) is sufficient for salvation? This view was propogated by a Pastor here when Billy Wright was murdered. He argued that Wright was in heaven simply because he believed, regardless of the heinous crimes he committed

A couple of points. Whether you agree with Catholicism or not you must agree that it is ridiculous in this day and age that a man cannot convert while he is still Prime Minister for fear of casuing outrage in the country he presides over. The freestaters are also orgasmic at the propsect of the Monarch (another sectarian post in the same country) visiting thier part of Ireland >:(

Stew I simply cannot undertsand the logic of worshipping in a Baptist or any other protestant cult building. Catholicism was founded by the apostles who were instructed directly by the Lord himself. Just as the Lord gave them the power to forgive or retain sins, so Priests are invested similarly with this power so there is no problem confessing to them as intermediaries. At the end of the day the Catholic faith was good enough for everyone  until the 17th century when the satanic inspired Deformation started by the mentally ill Luther came about

Born in Kent (near Holly perhaps  ;D) but I would guess there's an Irish connection somewhere with a name like that. This was his first start in the league.

Always happy when a lost soul sees the light, however the fact that he couldn't do this when he was Premier merely confirms the innate anti catholicism within Britain, a country that cannot tolerate a Catholic Prime Minister >:(

General discussion / Fof Fcuk sake what do we have to do?

to beat the Goons? Played them off the pitch with largely a reserve side, and Robbie goes and misses a penalty (I can't recall the last time this happened at either club or international level) then we concede a goal a decent pub team wouldn't concede >:(

However what a debut from young Jamie O'Hara ;D

General discussion / Re: RTE and FAI strike new deal
December 21, 2007, 04:51:59 PM
With the take from the games at Croker this year, particularly the German match, on top of this TV contract, and the one they have with Sky (does this not conflict with RTE?) the FAI must be really flush currently. Hope they don't blow the cash on someone like Venables as the new manager. After all if English coaches aren't good enough to manage England, neither should they be entertained in Ireland

You could also say Meath, in 1996. Now that was one, unlike the other three, that ye did throw away ;)

I just hope they print my reply!

On a lighter note, this letter I impeccably hammered out on my keyboard, also appeared in last Friday's Irish News and my mother took a call from the Priest at home to tell her that both he and his Parish Priest (ie boss if you are a prod!) were rolling about the Parochial House laughing at it ;D

I am not sure you have the intellect to grasp the point of this thread. It was a person you admire that you really shouldn't. Like a Celtic fan admiring a Rangers player, a real Ireland supporter admiring a six county team player, an Armagh fan admiring a Tyrone player etc. ;D

The most shocking aspect of this thread is the description of Henry Cluney as a "Rock Star". FFS Clodagh Rogers and Dana had more hits than Stiff Little Fingers ;D

Would have though Henry would have understood perfectly that it is possible for anyone to have an "alternative" name for "Ulster" ;D

I'm not talking about attractive women either! This idea came to mind a few years ago when Armagh's Ger Houlahan was in his prime and declared himself a big fan of Souness , then Rangers manager, and a big issue was made of the fact that a GAA star admired a Rangers manager, though in fairness I think it was what Souness did for Liverpool that inspired Houlie's affection.

Still it got me thinking (always dangerous I know!) I myself have always been an admirer of former Rangers Captain and Manager John Greig, going back to childhood. So much so that I bought his biography (at a discounted price of course) whilst in Glasgow for the UEFA Cup Final last May. There was something about his commitment and enthusiasm I admired , though I definitely didn't approve of his goatee beard in the early 70s, which made him evil looking, and resembling Pastor Jack Glass a noted Glaswegian fundamentalist who was in his day the Scottish equivalent of Paisley for spewing out venom and sectarian hatred.

So anyone else admire anyone they really shouldn;'t?

Do any of the other so called "British Associations" other than the IFA, have an entitlement to select players with Irish passports?

Surely a basic prerequisite to play for any "country" should be to hold a passport for said "country" and it goes without saying that no "country" should be permitted to select a passport holder of another "country"...if you get my drift

I dislike Sanchez. His arrogance was also inflated by the fcukwits that pass for football journalists in the six counties who built him up to a Clough/Stein/Shankley like figure, conveniently forgetting that for every win over a disinterested team like England or Spain, there was a matching 3-0 home defeat to Poland and Iceland as well. They'fre repeating the same crap with Worthington now as well.

For what its worth I have more time for Sammy Mc Illroy as a person and as a football manager, who knew his limitations and got out at the right time, and is currently making sound progress at Morecambe and may yet go on to be successful at a higher level

General discussion / Re: Champions League Draw
December 21, 2007, 01:35:43 PM
Good enough draw. If Celtic can win at Paradise against Barca they are more than capable of scrapping a draw at Camp Nou, they have done so twice in this millennium already ;)

Laughable at the amount of eejits giving the goons a chance against Milan ;D As Man Ure and Liverpool found out last year, and Boca Juniors last weekend, when it comes to the Champions League and World Club Championship Milan are difference class
