Quote from: Captain Obvious on January 21, 2024, 06:32:26 PMWell done Glen and fine achievement for three Ulster teams to win the three All-Ireland club titles on offer.

Brigids left with a might have been. A decent goalkeeper away from winning that All-Ireland, let me guess he's an outfield player that was put in goal because of no other options for that position?

Glen 11 wides in total for such experienced team and one that played in last years final it was a surprise that their shot selection and decision making was poor.

The goalie didn't look like a natural but his kickouts were decent. Mark Gibbons a former Dublin minor goalie has transferred into Brigids. He might be in goal next year.

Kickouts may have been decent but ultimately poor goalkeeping has cost St Brigid's.  A competent keeper should be saving that.

Quote from: toby47 on January 10, 2024, 03:44:47 PMI've been offered a few tickets for the darts in the SSE arena in Belfast this year. Is it a decent night out worth going to?

I'm a casual darts watched over Xmas every year, but don't watch it any other time of year. Probably more hooked this year due to the Littler story.

Couple of friends went to one a year or two ago. Now these boys are up for the craic and love a night out as much as anyone but both said they wouldn't go near it again - alot of scumbags, drinks being fcuked about the place and sectarian chanting.

Best avoid.

Quote from: johnnycool on January 10, 2024, 08:34:26 AMWe run a "fitness" camp every January and February, Ballygalgets biggest loser it's called.

At it's peak we'd over 200 people paying £5 a week to be put into groups of 10 or 12, assigned "motivators" who'd take them on walks, runs, boxercise etc etc with weekly weigh ins and at the end of the 10 weeks the winners, male and female were those that lost the most weight. There was also a team prize for the overall best team who won the most Sunday morning challenges..

Our neighbouring clubs got in on the act and they run similar schemes at various times of the year and make a few bob from them as well.

But out of that has sprung up a cottage industry of personal trainers doing well for themselves off the back of it. One of our camogs runs boot camps where she's takes 20 people for 6 week blocks, does the before and after stuff and the last time I was talking to her she's thinking of packing in the day job.
Another of our lads got into the spin, kettle bell HIIT stuff as well as a bit of massaging and he's doing well, so well he hasn't the time to be our medical man the bollox..

Middle aged women in particular have money to spend and they go for this stuff in a big way.

Cost of living crisis my arse!!!!

Nails
Weekly hair appointments
Boot camps
Pilate classes
Pampering weekends

I could go on

Don't forget the botox! Seeing plenty of women now with the joker smile.

Plenty of fitness videos on youtube that you can get for free - if you've a couple of kettlebells you're sorted and doesn't need to be more than a 20/25 min workout.

The small group training has really taken off at the minute, realistically if you're joining a gym like this then it's a min £100 for 3 sessions a week.

Had an aerial installed in my new house a few years ago and was able to pick up RTE as well as the other standard Freeview channels.  Then I got sky installed so just watched through the satellite for the next few years.  Have now got rid of sky but when I search through the Freeview I can no longer find RTE?

Do mean pick up RTÉ on Freeview or pick up Saorview? If you get all the Freeview channels and not just the main ones then you should be able to tune in the RTÉ on Freeview.

Yeah, RTE on Freeview.  I had a fella install an aerial which would get me RTE and was working fine as far as I remember.  Then I got the Sky installed a few weeks after and just watched RTE through it from then on.  Have got rid of Sky now but no sign of the RTE on the Freeview.

It was at its best when Barker was presenting with McCoist/Parrott and Tufnell/Dawson.  Had the right balance between bit of humour and actually answering questions about sport.  BBC changed things up and fcuked it.

Quote from: tbrick18 on November 27, 2023, 10:21:34 AMUnfortunately I didnt get to see the Trillick v Scotstown match but by all accounts it was a very good game.
I had a feeling Trillick would win it and had the potential to win Ulster under the radar, but not to be.

Glen probably deserved to win the first SF, that point at the end to win it was worth it alone.
I still think they are not playing as well as last year, but perhaps that will come yet. Glass has been underwhelming, but that's not to say he's playing badly, just doesn't seem to be hitting the same highs as last year.
I dont think that was a penalty tbh, and had it not been given Glen probably ran out comfortable enough winners. Hurson had a reasonably good game, though I though he was a little harsh on Glen in general, but for me he got the penalty wrong.

Glen and Scotstown will be an interesting game. Glen perhaps slight favourites, but not much between them. Scotstown keeper play could be the difference in the two teams.
Wattys may be pacing themselves. It's tournament football. They want to be ready for the final. They know how it works.

Precisely.

Although if the Glenties man held that last kick out and didnt cough it up to Glass (and then the winning point went over 5 secs later) it could be they in the final, not Glen.

Glen 'could' say get a few goals, get a run on Scotstown and win by 10. We'd all then be saying how they'd done well managing the earlier rounds and timed their peak at the right time. Scotstown could also get a run on Glen. It's Sport and over analysed. I remember a line ball in a game given the wrong way in a semi final that changed the game. There's so little in it.

In saying all that though Kilmacud are simply the team to beat. With the refs giving them penalties for fouls well outside the box when things get tight i Cant see them being stopped unless by a lucky drop in mad goal again or something like a few years ago

Never got this idea how teams could pace themselves for certain matches.  As you say, they could have been easily beat.  They hardly 'paced' themselves to come through by a point.  Some teams do however kick on and get that momentum after a couple of matches.

Quote from: ranch on November 25, 2023, 04:04:15 PMI really don't get the issue here with Arva. They're in the junior championship because they weren't good enough to win it previously. League and championship aren't linked in some counties and that's fair enough as far I'm concerned.
I'd more so have an issue with Blackhill being a yo-yo club every few years, Glenullin remaining at intermediate level for two years running, or a club like Cullyhanna being relegated to intermediate via their league position, ignoring the fact they'd played 90% of the league without their county representatives. This then gave them a pretty straightforward intermediate title in Armagh and a crack at Ulster, despite being a senior club at full strength. A system like Cavan's would eradicate these problems and ensure teams that win championships move up accordingly, and those that have county representation aren't relegated to a lower tier championship via league position undeservedly.

Spot on

Pretty much this and I'm not from Cavan.

Seriously, the whole argument as to whether Arva are a Junior outfit is becoming tedious now.  Cavan have their system and there was an anomaly where Arva had a couple of promotions but yet still failed to win the JFC, which they had every right to participate in as per the championship structures in Cavan.  As I said previously, I find the Glenullin situation even more bizarre.  People might have a stronger argument if Arva run away with the Cavan intermediate championship next year, but realistically is that going to happen?

Quote from: lurganblue on July 18, 2023, 04:28:01 PMMy contract with o2 is up this month. Has anyone ever took a sim only contract with O2 through Uswitch? Their deal on say 30g is over half the price that O2 are quoting me directly. The uswitch says it includes roaming and o2 priority. I'm just wondering what the catch is?

Thread bump.

Need to sort sim only contract and seen some great deals online through Uswitch and the like.  Spoke to the likes of Three and Vodafone instore and when I mentioned the deals they said they were specific to online only.

Assume it's all legit?

Always liked this Seamus Quigley score back in 2010 - around 11.11

Beggan's was a good strike and he hit the sweetspot but there'd be plenty of other footballers capable of scoring from that range.  I'll go with Peter Canavan, think it was circa 95/96 and he caught the ball, fell to the crowd and got up again and kicked a mighty score - think it was in the Ulster Championship

Glenullin winning handy - thought it'd be much closer as Glenravel were making big strides in Antrim.  That said, Glenullin being in the Intermediate Championship again is more farcical than the Cavan situation with Arva.
